The worst possible one. If it was a family member, my life insurance policy is voided and I’m not going to let years of premium payments go to waste, damnit.
@macromeh@pakopako She’d be the most fun to watch. Besides, I’m dead already so it doesn’t really matter if they find the killer as long as I’m entertained.
I don’t remember watching much of Columbo, but Jessica Fletcher would annoy the crap out of me. I can’t watch anything she is in and was mad that they used her as the voice of the teapot in Beauty and the Beast. She just bothers me that much.
@Harbingerdc Here’s my Midsummer Murders conspiracy theory:
I’m convinced his wife is the real murderer and a psycho serial killer. She gets a new hobby… People connected to that hobby get murdered. She goes watches a sport… People competing in that sport get murdered. She gets interested in a certain branch of history… Famous historians from that branch get murdered.
I know DCI Barnaby always arrests someone and they always confess… But I think it’s a false confession. It’s too much of a coincidence that his wife always seems to be mixed up in whatever foul play goes down in Midsommer.
If someone named Mrs. Barnaby joins any club, group or sport you’re involved in. Run away.
Such a hard choice… Mannix, because he was my first ever TV detective; Magnum PI-for the car; Jim Rockford-his dad was so cool! and trailers on a beach!!; Inspector Clouseau because… Inspector Clouseau…; or… Steve McGarrett <swoon>
@pakopako Interesting question. Primarily, it is the books I was thinking of, although you are right, it asks about televised ones. IMDB lists five! I saw the one with William Conrad in 1981 and thought it was pretty bad. They said they were in New York City, where the books are primarily set, but there were PALM TREES in a number of scenes. That was enough to blow it for me.
I also watched the one with Maury Chaykin and Timothy Hutton and thought that series was quite good. The actors pretty well fit my notions of what they were like and the performances were very good. Many of the ancillary characters were also excellent actors. I have not seen the other three listed, one of which was a one-shot with William Shatner. There was a series with the location changed to Rome which I might try to see.
@andyw
Five? Geez. The Conrad one I know of (because PBS keeps pushing it), the Shatner as Archie (Memory Alpha fan, so it was on my radar) I thought was more then a one time spot, but my favorite was the Chaykin team with the recycling cast (something that is more often associated with variety shows, like SNL or Dick Dietrich). Ah I remember the payment for one of the mysteries was beef (because of wartime rationing).
Dexter Morgan!
The worst possible one. If it was a family member, my life insurance policy is voided and I’m not going to let years of premium payments go to waste, damnit.
@mikey
so… Barney
MillerFifeBoys from “In the heat of the night”
Hank Voight
@cherrymm Hell yeah.
Veronica Mars
@marcee Really? It took her several seasons to solve the case.
@macromeh @marcee That was the one she was directly involved in, which she shouldn’t have taken because… She was directly involved in it.
@macromeh I said what I said.
@macromeh @pakopako She’d be the most fun to watch. Besides, I’m dead already so it doesn’t really matter if they find the killer as long as I’m entertained.
Lieutenant Frank Drebin
Mulder and Scully. I assume there will be aliens involved.
Sherlock
I’m assuming the answer would be found in my will? If I’ve been murdered, how can I choose anyone??
Scooby Doo and the gang. It would make for one hell of a news story.
Columbo. Because it’s great that he will annoy everyone.
/giphy columbo
BTW my murderer is Jessica Fletcher. But she always gets away with murder so easily.
I don’t remember watching much of Columbo, but Jessica Fletcher would annoy the crap out of me. I can’t watch anything she is in and was mad that they used her as the voice of the teapot in Beauty and the Beast. She just bothers me that much.
@Foobarski
Sam and Dean Winchester
Definitely Columbo! Oh, one more thing… I want Columbo on the case!
DCI Tom Barnaby

@OnionSoup Don’t live in Midsomer at all. It’s too murdery.
Nancy Drew
Shawn & Gus!
@sklitfin you mean Burton and Spencer? (I’ve heard it both ways.)
Shawn and Gus from Psych.
Rosemary & Thyme
Remington Steele
Veronica Mars
DCI Vera Stanhope and her trusty sidekick (DS, now DI) Joe Ashworth. She will pin the killer to the wall with dripping sarcasm.
Or maybe whoever is taking over as the DI on St. Marie, because that would mean I was murdered on a Caribbean island.
@rockblossom Kind of the reason I almost went with Magnum. At least I’d be in Hawaii.
Barney Miller
/giphy Barney Miller
Hercule Poirot. Every murder should be solved by a moustachioed Belgian.
What year is it with these choices?
Such a hard choice… Mannix, because he was my first ever TV detective; Magnum PI-for the car; Jim Rockford-his dad was so cool! and trailers on a beach!!; Inspector Clouseau because… Inspector Clouseau…; or… Steve McGarrett <swoon>
Nero Wolfe and Archie Goodwin!
@andyw which of the three (two?) televised incarnations?
@pakopako Interesting question. Primarily, it is the books I was thinking of, although you are right, it asks about televised ones. IMDB lists five! Maxwell Smart and Agent 99
/image Get Smart
Gibbs of course!
Seely Booth and Dr. Temperance Brennan
Shawn Spencer. obvs.
Chief Inspector Clouseau
Doesn’t matter to me, I’m dead…
I’m changing mine to Joan Watson.
Only there’s a twist… I’m not really dead, I faked my own murder so I could get to meet Lucy Liu.
@OnionSoup now there was a pair
@OnionSoup @pakopako Well, if you’re not dead, then you want Inspector Leopard of The Yard on the case.
@OnionSoup @werehatrack Yes, but Joan has access to Mycroft and Moreland.
@OnionSoup I liked that show a lot. Liu and Miller were great and some of the supporting cast were quite good.
Probably Harold Finch and John Reese (with Bear).
If we’re including movies: The entire cast of Murder by Death
https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_by_Death
Maybe Mr.Green (from the ending where he was a fed)
Or officer Lisbon and consultant Patrick Jane.
Or the Scooby Doo A-team of Westin and Sam Axe.
@pakopako I think you are confusing Clue! and Murder by Death.
@werehatrack I was hoping someone would have seen that.
Special Agent Dale Cooper of the FBI. Why? He’ll not only solve the case, but he’ll go back in time and prevent it from happening!
@kg714x Or maybe not. That didn’t work out so well for Laura P.
@kg714x @rockblossom Yeah but it was some damn fine coffee and cherry pie.
Dirk Gently and his Holistic Detective Agency (I especially liked Bart Curlish)
