it’s My Buddy’s birthday, so for years that was my focus…
Last year I had a GF for the first time in 20 years… scheduled a “weekend away”( in the middle of the week, no weekends off in retail) that just happened to fall on V-Day( Completely unintentionally) she claims not to care about valentines… but…our first one we were out of town at a hotel doing… ya know stuff…
this year I’m staring down the maw of the holiday, no plans, we’re both working 40-50 hrs a week, and exhaustipated on our days off…
not sure what to do…
My husband is a hopeless romantic, and always gets me red roses (inexpensively from a local produce place because he knows I don’t want him spending a fortune on overpriced roses, lol!) When our daughter came along, he started getting her pink roses along with my red. And when my boys were old enough to have girlfriends, he began including them as well. It’s just a small gesture to show how important his family is to him. So sweet!
I, however, am not good with showing my romantic side in that way. I’m not really a gifts person. And I’d be fine without flowers on Valentine’s Day, (especially since he gets me flowers throughout the year). I hate the ‘must buy to show I care’ aspect of something that should be felt everyday. I show it in other ways.
I only really cared about Valentine’s Day when my kids were young. I enjoyed getting them little gifts and helping them do their cards for their classmates. I probably had as much fun helping them decorate their little valentines shoe boxes as they did.
Fortunately my wife is equally uncaring about the holiday, so we generally just ignore it.
Not any more, my Dad passed away on Feb 14th 3 years ago.
I enjoy the after-holiday clearance.

@earlyre Just pick a different day or weekend to be your own private Valentines Day.
You mean Singles Awareness Day? Bah Humbug.
@RobinBobcat I see your acronym, and find nothing in my personal history to contradict it.
@lonocat I approve of GrumpyCat.
I only celebrate half price chocolate day and my neice’s birthday on the 15th.
