@pskemp2@TheGreatNico I have had one kind of homemade orange marmalade that I actually liked, probably because of the fact that it included ginger and cinnamon in it, and the orange peel was just the zest. But made in the British tradition of tons and tons of just diced up orange peel with the nasty bitter pith included, I personally find it inedible. I will observe that most of the marmalade made in the United States does not seem to follow the British tradition. But I will take seedless black raspberry preserves in preference to virtually anything else except possibly a really good peach jam, anytime.
@pskemp2@TheGreatNico@werehatrack Your description with the ginger and cinnamon makes me want some now! But even better, I would stop everything and eat a piece of toast right now if I could have some good peach jam placed in front of me!!
@hchavers@werehatrack
Bullshit.
Proper marmalade is delicious stuff. And by the way it’s a Scottish product primarily, with Dundee being the epicenter.
@chienfou@hchavers Marmalade made with Seville oranges is utterly vile IMO, the IPA of jams. Some US and European marmalades, made with a far less bitter orange zest and no pith, can be tasty, but I have zero interest in spending a cent to test any. Once in a decade or so, I’ll make some of what I like. You are enthusiastically encouraged to find and consume all the others.
@mycya4me nope
cashew butter much better imho
and if you want cashew, almond or peanut better that is twistedly delicious I recommend American Dream Nut Butter
It depends on the use. For instance, with toast many of these are good-a really good one from Costco is 4 Fruits jam by Bonne Mamam. On the other hand, PB&J needs Welch’s grape jelly-and please don’t argue about that, it is just a fact. I had a very smart, nice, employee who used strawberry jam with her PB&J, but she was from England, so I let it go.
@2many2no Or Peaches from Ham’s Orchard in Terrell. Last year almost the entire peach crop was bad. I hope they are good this year. My freezer is empty.
@chienfou she was in Michigann and had this little two rows of stuff in the back yard. plus a patch of mint on the side . Maybe some cherry tomatoes and a few other things. She made real sweet/sour pickles which were also delicious.
Pretty sure the strawberry rhubarb pie involved some strawberry jello mix.
The actual jam though… I don’t think so. I really need to nag again to get the recipe cards if my sister’s have never scanned them. Also why did they get them all. Humph. I cooked with her more than them. I think. Lol.
Granted these are pretty basic/she might have done from memory.
Homemade Freezer Strawberry Jam is best.
No cooking, it tastes just like fresh Summer strawberries any time of the year.
Peach, Nectarine or seedless Raspberry Freezer jam is a close second.
Jams are almost pure sugar and fruit sugars in a gelatin form.
Jellies are … jams with bits of fruits inside.
Preserves (or marmalade if citrus is included) is literally shorthand for preserved fruits (via sugar) which have tenderized/caramelized into something spreadable.
Jammin’ with Jelly Roll at the Preservation Hall!
Lingonberry or Boysenberry
Pink Grapefruit Marmelade
My mother’s usual favorite is apricot, but one year my plum trees produced a bumper crop; I made spiced plum jam and she really loved it.
Orange marmalade
@TheGreatNico ditto, and even better… homemade orange marmalade. 'Cause its canned in a quart Mason jar!

Apple butter
Orange marmalade is really good, but is it a preserve, jam, or jelly?
@hchavers
yes
@hchavers The first one.
@hchavers English orange marmalade is a nasty bitter mess that can ruin anything.
@hchavers @werehatrack
Bullshit.

Of course want Peanut Butter with that jam! Or Just Maybe with a Banana! The fav of Minions & Elvis!

@andyw
I agree with that one.
/showme toe jam
@mediocrebot that’s actually 4-toed foot jam
@awk @mediocrebot I wish we had the ability to hide other peoples’ comments from our own view
@awk @Kyeh @mediocrebot
this type is actually yummy
@awk @chienfou @mediocrebot Hah! I’d try it, but I might mask off the label or something.
It sounds like a good flavor combo.
@awk The fifth toe is the one that’s jam now.
@awk @chienfou @Kyeh @mediocrebot they make some cool stuff
This stuff. Yummy!!
@IndifferentDude
That does sound pretty good!
formaldehyde
@Mehlachi
Guava
@Euniceandrich
Serious, this is da bomb!
@Euniceandrich mmm, fruit protein
I make FROG jam now and then.
Fig, Raspberry, Orange, Ginger. Like this
@chienfou So if you used Raspberry, Apricot, Grape, and Strawberry, you could have RAGS jam?
@Kyeh
:thumbs up:
@chienfou @Kyeh
I went with Cranberries, Raspberries, Apples, and Pears.
@Kyeh @yakkoTDI
Probably would be more appropriate as Cabbage, Rutabagas, Anchovies and Pickles.
@chienfou @yakkoTDI I’d eat yakko’s jam but not chienfou’s!
Only yakko, for you, wouldn’t it be Cranberries, Apples, Rasberries & Pears?
I’m sorry, but the correct answer is Peach Preserves,
especially if you have Fredericksburg Peaches.
@2many2no Or Peaches from Ham’s Orchard in Terrell. Last year almost the entire peach crop was bad. I hope they are good this year. My freezer is empty.
@2many2no we had a cling type peach tree eons ago going up and my dad made this, awesome
DIPLOMAT! RAT-A-TAT! FAT CAT! AWESOME!
Seedless black raspberry has long been my favorite, but it can be next to impossible to find.
Grandma’s rhubarb jam. Ok. Technically strawberry rhubarb. I know the rhubarb came from like 6 plants in her garden. Less sure on the rest.
@unksol
Living in the south, rhubarb is one of the things I miss the most. It just doesn’t do it down here…
@chienfou she was in Michigann and had this little two rows of stuff in the back yard. plus a patch of mint on the side . Maybe some cherry tomatoes and a few other things. She made real sweet/sour pickles which were also delicious.

Habanero anything. And keep that Ghost Pepper stuff at another table. I am such a sucker for tasting hot stuff.
Blackberry that Trader Joe’s no longer carries!!!
/image I have a sads
@Kidsandliz That’s where I first found pink grapefruit marmalade and of course they no longer carry that either.
My homemade! Peach, blackberry or blueberry. The last two from berries hand picked from the local pick your own farms.
I made Ginger Blue (berry) once that was surprisingly stupendous. I’ve rationed if.
Pretty much anything except strawberry (basic) or grape (gross).
Homemade Freezer Strawberry Jam is best.
No cooking, it tastes just like fresh Summer strawberries any time of the year.
Peach, Nectarine or seedless Raspberry Freezer jam is a close second.
I make bourbon peach and bourbon fig preserves pretty much every year. Lots of them go out at Christmas time.
My son tends the homegrown strawberries. My ma-law makes the strawberry preserves. Hard to beat this one, grown locally and made with love!
Bacon onion jam at IHOP.

Jokes aside, no one asked this, buuuut…

@pakopako And if you’re in England, all of them except marmalade are jams. Jelly is a pudding (i.e. a dessert) that we would call Jello.
