I have yet to don short shorts for any reason, but otherwise the shorts length depends upon the purpose. Quite a few do end up just short of my knees, though.
Apparently my new job allows shorts at work between Memorial and Labor Day. However they need to be much longer than women’s shorts normally fall. I will be searching for longer women’s shorts soon.
@mycya4me I consider those not to be shorts. They’re an extreme version of high waters. Several of my friends regard them as being why bothers. They’re not short enough to be significantly cooler in hot weather, and they’re not long enough to keep the bugs off of your calves and ankles. And down here, we got lots of bugs. Mosquitoes are the worst but not the only.
@mycya4me@werehatrack I prefer capris, so they can be long enough to have a cell phone pocket on the leg. I try not to go places that have that many bugs.
@katbyter I like to use a holster hung from a belt loop via a caribiner, but I’ll use a pocket on cargo shorts if there’s no place to hang the holster.
They should go to my feet. See no ankles.
@Mehlachi then they are NOT Shorts, but LONG Pants.
The closer they are to pants, the better.
I don’t have bony knees to hide, but I need some length or they disappear.
Cargo length

It all depends… do you mean on me, or other people!
@chienfou yep!

@cbatte Costco has some fairly nice Bermuda shorts at the moment. On most women, they fall just above the knee.
A separate short for each leg.
@brennyn Those are called chaps.
How about capris?

@werehatrack I just don’t worry about as they are a Female short. Of course you Koolots!
I like anything pretty much just above the knee and cargo shorts too
@mycya4me For hot weather hiking, cargo shorts are definitely good. But for really hot weather, I’ll go even shorter and forego the pockets.
You can make it a thong, as long as it has pockets.
@pakopako I should prefer not to. And everyone in the vicinity would likely be in agreement.
