16I wasn’t kidding about passing out a short month. Seems like I said that a week ago. Yet, we’ve had winter storms, and plenty of other madness, and @brainmist held up their end of the deals and took it like a champ. Now, winter is almost over and we’re heading into the deeper waters of 2021 with March sneaking up on us just like February, so we need someone else to blame. You were left with the decision and the best you could do was @Felton10. I don’t know who to blame for that, but you should all know who to blame for what comes next!
While you’re putting away your winter goats and breaking in the new hotness, lay it all on @Felton10 and don’t let him pass any of it to off Walter. This is no job for a bird. They’re not real anyway.

I was going to appoint Walter to a high position in my administration, but there was been some allegations of sexual impropriety against him. Won’t go into detail but they involve fluffing of the feathers at an inappropriate time and asking strange females to rub his ear holes (where all birds like to be petted btw). Needless to say I am disappointed and shocked.
@Felton10 I heard people say that there was a check for 130,000 sunflower seeds involved in the rubbing of the ear hole incident. And don’t believe Walter. It was only a few seconds of rubbing, not the four hours and call your doctor kind.

OMG!!! FIVE weeks of laundry. The no kill shelter finally has water after 15 days of none, and for 3 weeks prior to that they had broken washers (I, on the other hand, still don’t have water and this is day 16 or something). They wanted me to come in to do laundry yesterday (volunteer) and today (went yesterday, on my way, finally today). The top of the dog cages are around 7.5’ high and one washer and the dryers are at well over 7’ tall too. OMG it may never all get done as 1 washer and 2 dryers are broken. And we won’t even discuss the odor, the pleasure the rats have in their new found mountains as they run when you disturb them … BLAME!!!
And they photos don’t do justice. There are two more piles behind me in some of the photos. The table is only cleared off as I needed a place to fold. The one wall with the folded laundry on the shelves is what I got done yesterday. You can’t even get at some of the shelves as they are blocked by the laundry mountain.

I am ok for now but if I lose any more electrical wires I’ll need a pacemaker. This sounds a little like my brother, except unfortunately his first indication was a heart attack at age 50. He is now 70 (and alive).
Doc also wants to do a sonogram to make sure I am don’t also have any plumbing issues. I have my fingers crossed since I opted for high-deductible insurance this year, hoping it would be sufficient until I go on Medicare in September. Since I have had no medical issues the past few years, it seemed a good choice at the time.

Not really a blame cuz I don’t want to pin this sort of downer on ANY goat, but my cousin broke the news that he is going into hospice tomorrow. Some sort of liver cancer (not really the time to admit forgetting the specific ailment); I think same or similar to what Walter Payton had but not sure. Tried all the recommended therapies (and probably a few others) - nothing really had any significant positive effect.

It was the Pfizer so I go back in 3 weeks for the second dose, but this one was practically painless, and no side effects so far.
@Kyeh Well good. And I read a study that came out the other day that Pfizer just finished testing their vaccination with people who could have gotten the UK, South African and Brazilian variants and it appeared to cover people adequately. I know an initial lab study indicated it (and Moderna) were not doing a very good job with that, but the study I just saw was a real study with people and it seemed to turn out better than the initial lab study. Fortunately. I know Moderna is working on a variant booster and I had read Pfizer was as well (read this before the Pfizer study just out so don’t know if they are going to continue with that or not).

@Kyeh Yes Pfizer. I had no side effects worth mentioning (have had both). The worry I have is that some folks with blood cancers like I have don’t mount any spike antibodies (so no immunity). I am trying to find how to get tested. The big medical center I go to told me today they don’t do it and have no clue where it can be done that they can send to. I had to push them to find out. Not sure if they will actually go look though.
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh my parents both had Pfizer and the sore arm was the worst if it. My mom was a little tired and my dad was a little sore the day after the second shot, but nothing that stopped them from doing their normal routine.

@Kyeh GETTING IT TOMORROW!!! I had heard there was a study going on. I FOUND IT!!! Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) is running it to study blood cancer patients and our response. Getting my blood drawn Monday morning!!!
These are the two tests they are doing. The first measures antibodies to the vaccination. They make it harder for the spike protein to attach and so that is what the vaccinated are supposed to get antibodies to. The second is to measure if you have had covid.
LLS is doing it (for those of us done with vaccinations - they are doing more blood draws if you haven’t had it yet - before the shot, I presume to see if you have had covid then after shot one) one month after (so I will be 9 days late with this but happy they are still doing it), then 3 and 6 mo after. They are using LabCorp, which is a national lab.
AND the other best part is that they will let us see our test results in real time which is not something that usually happens in studies - if you even get to see them them at all.
Screen shot is from my lab order (love the “semi quantitative” words there. What is the non quantitative then? Flip a coin? LOL Actually they probably look for something specific in how it looks I am guessing.).

UNBLAME!!! Today, on day 31, as of this evening we can finally drink the water!!!
BLAME - all sorts of shitty weather until 11pm - tornadoes, hail, straight line wind… so far locally just heavy rain. Stashed my car in the hospital’s parking garage and walked home just in case of hail. Nothing better damage the water plant!
Unblame - the now 8 year old mercenary decided, after perusing toys at walmart, that he wanted a $15 hand operated drone with rechargeable battery instead of $20 cash for his birthday (his original choice), with the remainder of his present in one dollar bills (instead of a $5 bill so he will have “more money” - after agreeing it still adds up to $5 - he said he’d have more money because he’d lose less change after buying something LOL). Which is a very cool little toy.
I have no idea how long it will last but it is flexible enough I think it will survive multiple crashes and not break windows or scratch cars. Low hanging tree branches could be another issue but after a couple of discussions I think he gets that he needs to keep away from trees. Anyway he had a total blast with it yesterday (although it says 6+, the 4.5 year old could operate properly it after the 8 year old decided on his own to share and coached her).
Takes 30 min to charge for about 8-10 minutes running around with it. It blows air down and you use your hand to control/operate it. Goes maybe 5 -6 feel up above your hand max, although seems to hang about at 3 feet (so I am presuming when the air hits your hand it pushes it up) and slowly drifts to the ground if you lose control over it.
Anyway clever toy that was a big hit.

When there are only 50 and they are gone in 5 seconds and it takes my computer 8+ seconds to load the page due to latency of 100-180 and I’ll never get one ever again I am afraid. One of my clients invited me and my wife on a clothing optional cruise. The way this even popped up (no pun intended) in our conversation was that he invested in a number of condos at a clothing optional resort outside of Orlando and in discussing his experience with this type of resort he told me he and his wife had been going to these type of resorts and on these type of cruises for over 20 years. Now this gentlemen is African American and 6’5" inches tall and he said that there are very few blacks at these type of resorts.
I said to him that why would 70+ year old wrinkly people want to go on a cruise like that and he said that is the majority of the people who go on these cruises. I told him I know a CPA is supposed to know everything about his clients, but I thought this was carrying things a little too far. Lucky Covid intervened and any discussion of this was postponed.
Hahaha MS you made the national news for sucking big time - the water problem (I am on day 18 of no water and no estimate of when the problems will be solved other than maybe “soon”; city is right now having their FIRST water drive for drinking water - better late than never but sheesh), and for being total asshats in removing the mask mandate and any other covid restrictions. @unksol I can’t afford to move at the moment although I plan to when I can. And where I live, in MS, they knew they had these problems too and never did anything about them either. Now there is a lot of blaming about it. The mayor was more than a tad slow in responding and on that topic it didn’t go well for him at the mayor debate between the 6 or however many of them wanting to be elected in Nov.

Got my new mailbox(es) up. Now mine and Mom’s aren’t duct-taped to the twisted metal frames left from the recent episode of someone flattening them last weekend.
Got basically exactly the same ones we had, planted them in concrete behind the existing (destroyed ) ones then cut off the posts of the old ones at the level of the concrete so they wouldn’t be tire hazards for the mail lady… took a day by the time I dug the holes,mixed and poured the concrete, let the concrete set, ran extension cords to use the sidegrinder to cut off the posts etc, etc.
@chienfou Hope they stay put. Once when I had a mailbox kids were driving down the street in a pickup with baseball bats bashing them. My neighbor filled hers with cement and when a kid tried to break hers he broke his arm instead. Due to that the lot of them got caught.

Small college town - 72 houses, 3 apartment buildings, 17 roads only half of them paved and one blinking stop light. I know this as once the guy who owned the only gas station and general store took off for a hunting trip, forgot to leave the key with his wife. I wasn’t sure I had the gas to go the 25 miles to the next nearest place to get gas (and grocery shop) so road all over the town on my bike looking for anyone I knew who might be able to be talked into driving me to the gas station with a container. I counted these things while I did that as I was so pissed at the town for having almost nothing there. Also, after that, I kept a full gas container in the back of my pickup.
Day 24 with no drinkable water. But at least, except for one day when it was back off, when finally a small bit started to trickle out the faucet, it has stayed on. They said maybe (been promising this for at least a week) the boil water order will be rescinded this weekend. My hopes aren’t up too high since they have been saying that for days and the target date keeps moving out into the future. But I can shower and flush without filling containers which is good (although the pressure isn’t normal yet).

@Felton10 I live in one of those 3rd world countries that is surrounded by the USA.
The other day the mayor and governor were in an argument over the airport. The governor said he wouldn’t give any money to fix the water infrastructure unless the city gave the state the airport. Umm already much of the land in the city belongs to the government (capital, state university, state offices…) so the tax base is low due to that - not to mention the ghetto for the larger metro area is in this city too. Yup. It makes financial sense to give up the airport. Sigh.

Got a text (& email) last Sat to show up between 12-1pm today. Hit the back of the line @ 11:39 and was finished by 12:25 (including 15min post-poke waiting period). Never left the car; went like clockwork.
I only wish everyone could experience this level of coordination & expertise related to COVID vaccination.
@compunaut Good thing you have a car and a job that lets you drop everything when you get a text, and gives you an hour plus drive time to go get your jab on a Tuesday.
Pretty sure there’s a pretty sizeable number of people that don’t have all of those privileges to line up and make it a 30 minute deal like it was for you.
I hope we find a way to make sure that the homeless, the undocumented (COVID don’t care), the uninsured (why we need M4A more than ever) people that don’t have cars, can’t afford to take off from work, or cell phones to get texts, etc, also are able to get their jabs just as easily and conveniently. We are all in this.
Blame because a woodpecker has decided it needs to peck on the metal part of my chimney for about an hour EVERY morning. Sounds like a machine gun bam-bam-bam-bam!!!

@tinamarie1974 Put up a fake owl on top of the chimney. That scares off many different kinds of . We used them on boats to try to keep the sea gulls away from the rigging and their crap off of the deck and our heads. That usually worked.

Blame because one of my favorite STL Blues passed today in a horrible car accident. Such a sad time for the city and Blues fans everywhere.
I am starting week 5 of no drinkable water!!! At least the shower works and I can flush (the water went back on day 19, went off a day, and then back on). This stupid city is a third world country. They keep moving forward when they will be testing the water (need to take water two days in a row)… promises promises promises…

@Kyeh I have no clue about vested interest although that is common around here.
I think it is at least partly because of the high level of incompetence we have here due to things like nepotism, the scandals of HR “modifying” credentials of potential employees so they can hire them (which is common around here, including at the local hospitals which is scary. I once had someone taking care of me who clearly didn’t have the training they needed to actually do their job competently - had zero clue how the machine operated)…
And no money invested in the infrastructure for decades so things are going to break. Who knows where all the money earmarked for infrastructure went - there have been a number of scandals like embezzlement, but I have no clue what that money is actually spent on - clearly not on its intended purpose.
Then we have wholesale incompetence. The feds have taken over social services for how it is run, the state fired the entire leadership in the county’s SNAP office for incompetence and other “irregularities”… The 2 times I have had to use SNAP I found reading the manual informative and had to print out pages from the thing to educate the person assigned to me what the rules were.
There is zero investment in the infrastructure - water system, streets, bridges… So far in 12 years I have had to replace 3 windshields - none, ever, elsewhere, as the roads are never cleaned and rocks have broken them, have had damage to my car due to the holes in the roads more than once. Driving in the rain is especially dangerous as you can’t see how deep the holes are to avoid the deep ones. And on the many roads there are so pot holes there is no way to even avoid all of them as they are too many too close together.
Then we have the water meter scandal. The company that put them in paid $47M (or something close to that) in fines and no one knows where that money went. Tons of people have not received water bills in years despite attempting to get them…
And it goes on and on and on.

@Kyeh So do I. I am not a good southern girl. And I definitely need to be in a part of the country with decent health care, one without all the kind of BS that goes on in this state on the part of the politicians, where there is a quorum of people who actually believe in science…

@Felton10 @Kyeh Job. We were in a 93% white population place (I loved that job). We came out of Walmart one day and my kid said, “Mom we need to live where there are more brown people” (there were only 6 kids of color in her junior high of about 800 kids per grade; she has some issues and IEP and even substitute teachers could pick her out of a crowd). So I figured I could move as that was important for her and then move again once she was out of school. Job here was a step up from what I had then although at the time I had no idea what we were getting in to moving to here and if you had told me I am not sure I would have believed you. Had I known I never would have accepted the job. Of course several cancers got in the way of my plans of getting a different job to get the hell out of this state…

@Kyeh uh oh is right. Apple doesn’t fix things that old and so now the next step is to see if there is anyone local who fixes macs who would look to see if it really is permanently broken. Hard drive had a sudden crash and there are a couple of other mother board issues. All of them of the variety of one second it worked and the next it didn’t.

Is this the year I finally stop buying cheap earbuds? Maybe. I have a pile of them and they don’t last. Literally spent a thousand on them. Anybody have a good suggestion that I can save up for?
@zachhh I just got a wired pair and I think I rather like them. Paid $25 on Amazon and they arrived literally the next day. I must live close to a distribution center in STL.
