I once got a part of a fingernail clipping stuck in mine. No idea how it got there, but I’m glad I didn’t have to contact customer support.
@un4gvn1 I went looking for a new battery for my flip phone (still charges, but doesn’t last very long) and the people at both Radio Shack and Interstate Battery told me it’d be cheaper to get a new phone.
So, I’m just living with the reduced battery life (still plenty long enough for me, as long as I don’t get a flurry of texts) until it dies completely.

@DennisG2014 I eventually got my uncle a free smart phone. He doesn’t use any of the smart features, but he needs to text me, and he’s always had one of those phones with a keyboard, which I can’t get anymore.
Hand it to my husband and tell him my phone won’t charge. Then he does all the things y’all listed (clean the phone, take out the battery, etc.). All things electronics are his domain.
Tear it apart and repair or replace battery and/or charging port.(I’ve done it so many times I swear I could disassemble and reassemble an LG G4 blindfolded…but why would I…unless that became some sort of Olympic event or perhaps I could do it at a carnival side show…hmmmm)
When my flip-phone finally stops charging (or is no longer supported by any network, whichever comes first), I will finally, reluctantly join modern society and get a smart phone.
As long as it doesn’t appear to be due to external damage, take it to Verizon and tell them to fix it since it’s still under warranty. Done it before, got a new phone since they’d rather do a quick swap and sell it as a refurb.
@lseeber IT may be worth buying a new charging cable (Amazon Basics tend to be good and cheap) if you don’t have one to try. I’ve had three lightning cables wig out (one apple in 18 months, one no-name lasted a week, and one Amazon but 2+ years old) but the same phone is working great. They all would charge for a minute or two after wiggling or re-seating.
@duodec oh I always have at least three or four chargers and try them before I do anything. I don’t just automatically take it and buy a new one. But I do have a brand new phone it’s only about 2 months old so I have no problems right now anyway.
Start at the first answer and work my way down.
Pry it open, change out the battery for something bizarre-big and 3D print a new back cover for my new Frankenfone.
Wiggle, the cable, clean the port, then if that fails, replace the parts myself

@CaptAmehrican @TheGreatNico I tried the Qi thing, but it wouldn’t work on my phone. The little adapter made it overheat. I like my new phone.
A sewing needle is a multi-tool for cleaning phone ports. Never thought so much lint could get packed into a USB port or headphone jack.

You know that sudden realization that you might have done things just a bit differently?
On my old phone, I swapped the micro USB port with my spouse’s old phone that had a broken screen.
What better excuse is there to upgrade for more speed, memory, and pixels.
Replace the battery. (yet another advantage of still rockin’ the ol’ flip-phone)

@duodec @Kidsandliz Yeah, and your phone rings all day long with hoaky phone numbers and it’s a pain to block since scammers keep rotating numbers!!!

I have 5 extra batteries
I have USBC and work in a factory with lots of sawdust, so I have to clean my charging port very often.
@JoetatoChip maybe get one of them cases what plugs the port
