Yeah, I watched it with disappointment. They took out everything (except for the fight on the trucks) related to a virus and vaccine to satisfy their overloads and went out of their way to say half of America is racist.
@hchavers The “virus and vaccine” got destroyed in the first truck fight. The new info about the serum kept the plot moving. Also, there’s a difference between active, shouty racism and not being OK with whomever being in power, and that’s the thing the characters in question (trying not to be spoilery) had to deal with.
@replicacobra You get good marks for the attempt. There are too many holes, two of which are the very famous actress having no lines and the unexplained visible physical aftermath with the broker. And the last speech is “active, shouty racism” and could have been much better focusing on the legacy of Capt instead.
I think they did a good job on the forgotten soldier subplot and would love to see that explored more. I also hope we get more of the White Wolf storyline. And the setup for the **** was a great way to end.
Where’s the “No, but I’m definitely going to watch that right after I catch up on about a dozen other Marvel movies that I’m definitely going to watch once I feel like it enough to bother figuring out which is which.”
Have not seen, will wait for it to come up as no-extra-cost programming somewhere. I’m not avoiding it, I just don’t have high expectations for it after all of the SFX burnout from the last few. I can only stand so much suspending disbelief in the laws of physics before the “let me list the reasons why that stunt would result in a slimy paste of character inside the suit/on the wall/splashed across the landscape/etc.” kicks in.
It was better than I anticipated, as the trailers and teasers made it look pretty meh. If you want to keep up on the developments and lead-ins to future MCU storylines (now that the focus moves away from the big three), it’s tolerable if not enjoyable watching, and nice to see some depth being given to the second-tier characters.
Still, it wasn’t WandaVision. Or Loki.
I am in the minority in that I liked it better than “Loki” and possibly more than “Wandavision”. Marvel has been fantastic about making movies/shows that perfectly fit into the MCU puzzle, while still being enjoyed as a stand-alone product. I felt “Loki” and “Wandavision” were good, but only in the context of the over-all MCU picture. I think “Wandavision” would have been borderline unwatchable as someone’s first entry to the MCU. “Falcon and Wintersoldier” had some huge phase 4 clues, but could still be enjoyed with someone with bare minimal Marvel knowledge.
I love all things Marvel! Will be rewatching FWS again…I also love watching the HeavySpoiler Youtube channel afterwards to get their view and all the easter eggs I missed.
