@mfladd - I got the Motif Essential Pour Over Coffee Brewer, and if I run it at the same time that the female of the species is running the Keurig they pop the breaker - which is in the basement… If running 'em off of one of these would just pop a surge protector I’d buy!
@aetris The circuit breaker on a surge protector may pop if both are plugged into it; otherwise, it’s not going to stop an overload on the circuit itself. That’s because coffee makers are easily 10 amps or more, and if you have two going on at the same time on a 15 amp circuit …
I mean… I have two sous vide sticks so I can do meat and veg at the same time. I have a fryer. A crockpot. A dehydrater. A blender. A food processor. A stand mixer, but it’s lousy and I do want to upgrade it. Just waiting for a really irresistible kitchen aid offer. And more enameled cast iron stuff.
@Jamileigh17 I have had great luck with a Bosch stand mixer! We have a kitchenaid but I’m always afraid of melting them gears when I make bread or a big batch of cookies.
I threw out my old toaster because I had (stupidly) toasted buttered bread in it for a few years, and it wasn’t designed to be cleaned. I took it apart, thinking I could outsmart ‘em and get it cleaned.
No luck. And the toaster was impossible enough to reassemble that I junked it. I’m sorry Mother Nature.
So…in theory I should get a new toaster, is what I’m saying.

The other tools/toys I do enjoy using though. When I designed and built our kitchen I even included an “appliance garage” along one side of the island to house most of those things.
I also have many of the ‘other’ items such as a rice cooker, dehydrator, bread maker, toaster oven/air fryer etc. listed already.

I love to cook, always have. But now that it’s just me, eh… not worth the bother most of the time to drag that stuff out. I have an air fryer still in the box in the back of a closet for over a yr now… never used. I do have an electric knife and the only time I use it is for carving the turkey but, I do love having it for that job alone. It’s about 40 yrs old and still working great!

Anyway, I just use a regular pot and put it on the stove. I cannot figure out for the life of me what the rice cooker does that a regular pot does not do. Maybe the timer? But that timer is probably the problem with rice sticking to the bottom. I think you need to stir the rice periodically while it’s cooking and the rice cooker doesn’t do that.
@cengland0@steveml a good rice cooker isn’t just about the rice cooking, but also being able to maintain the right temp and moisture in the pot so once it is done it can sit on the counter for hours and be hot and ready as needed through the day.
And while the crusty bit at the bottom isn’t my cup of tea, some people consider it to be the best part of the pot, so there’s that.
So, may not work for everyone, but we like ours. No clue what brand, but I know it’s bigger and seals better than the cheap junk, but it wasn’t one of those obscenely expensive Japanese imports either.
What do you mean by this? The glass cover on mine has a hole in it to prevent it from sealing. I think you’re supposed to steam rice and that hole lets the steam out. My rice cooker also doubles as a vegetable steamer with the same unsealable lid and an additional insert.

where you have a latching hinged lid with an internal top plate that lets the steam out as the rice cooks, but then seals back up when it’s done. It should also have at least a basic keep-warm setting, and preferably a removable non-stick pot for easy cleaning.
Way better than the “glorified crockpot” type cookers, and much less prone to frothing and boiling over and leaving a mess on the counter.
On my grocery list right now is another cooling rack. I like baking and sometimes need more space for cooking and finally decided to stop using whatever I can find that never quite works right (rack from roasting pan, etc).

The ones that auto-open made me think of over-sized baby birds that want to be fed every time I got close. It made me want to drop crickets or flies into the trash can instead of trash.
@tohar1 Simplehuman. It is way overpriced for the materials in it, but mine still looks new after 10 years of use, so I’m happy. No springs, gears, or motors to break as it is all steel and rubber.

I want a toaster oven that makes toast quickly, or warms a sandwich quickly. The oven I have takes freakin’ forever. I could spend up to , you know, twenty or thirty dollars…
@ahacksaw I do miss my toaster oven. I used it a lot but since moving and remodeling the new kitchen… I just don’t want to look at one out there now. Maybe if they have a Smeg model that will match my kitchen.
I’m still waiting for the day I find a lightly used or unused sous vide at a thrift store for like $10, only so I could complete the list (+1) for $150, inclusive of the Instant Pot, KitchenAid 5qt. bowl lift, Cuisinart electric knife, Blendtec blender, and Breville smart oven.
If I buy any more kitchen appliances, my wife will chop, blend, puree, sous vide, and otherwise kill me.
Is it bad that I already have every single one of those?

The Echo’s power brick should only be pulling 0.6A maximum from your 120V wall outlet. Most household breakers should supply 10A without tripping.
If the breaker is getting tripped then either the Echo power supply is seriously broken (and probably seriously HOT), or your toaster is toast.

@sammydog01 The timer function is what I thought people liked them for. Otherwise, you could easily just use a regular pot.
I kinda covet a convection oven, maybe one that’s a microwave combo. Ya know, for those perfect chicken nuggets.
