Why do kids not like to zip their jackets
5My little sisters are 5 and 7 years old and will come out of school with their jackets wide open but, I know that is because both prefer big sister to do theirs up.
I have noticed when I am picking up my sisters that all kids at their school, aged between 5 and 10 will come out with their jackets undone too, even during the cold/freezing winter months so I’m just wondering, is there any particular reason(s) why kids will prefer not to do theit jackets up or get parents/guardians to do it for them?

You joined, today, just to ask this question?
Why do you think we know the answer?
@Barney Because we are the Council of GoaTs. We are all-knowing, or at least good at bullshitting our way around an answer.
@Barney I’m pretty sure this exact thing was posted before.
/giphy Deja vu zip your coat!
My son doesn’t even want to wear a coat. He continually makes attempts for shorts, and when told no, will bargain for short sleeves. I will give in on the short sleeves, but not without a coat. Which he will not zip. It’s an endless cycle.
@mfladd Yeah, but look who his daddy is.
@Barney
@mfladd
@ThomasF This topic should really be a poll question
Holy fucking dejavu.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/why-dont-kids-want-to-wear-winter-coats
@RiotDemon Thanks, I thought I remembered this crazy ass topic.
@RiotDemon @therealjrn How do you people remember this shit? I can’t remember what I posted yesterday. Which is a curse and a blessing some times.
@therealjrn that person recently joined (when that thread was new, about a year ago) complained about the jackets and then left the forum.
@mfladd @therealjrn because it was so weird and random back then.
@mfladd, @RiotDemon takes notes on everything that’s said here.
@RiotDemon I just came here to post that link. I remembered because it was so weird.
@RiotDemon @therealjrn
@Barney @mfladd @RiotDemon
Hey! Those notes are about me! And so personal too!!
@Barney @RiotDemon She must have inherited the records of PlacidPenguin.
@jst1ofknd Hmm… Maybe I should enlarge them so that everyone can see them.
@Barney @jst1ofknd @mfladd
@sammydog01 I’m glad I found the thread. It just hit me like a ton of bricks when I read this opener. Just, so bizarre.
@Barney @mfladd the penguin would of been faster.
I think he’s still on woot. At least from a thread I read. Wonder why he’s not here.
Different name.
@RiotDemon @sammydog01 I thought it was on Woot…hm…maybe there was one over there too.
Hey “Marion” here’s a wappo article for you too.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/my-kids-wont-wear-coats-no-matter-how-cold-it-is-and-its-making-me-crazy/2017/12/21/b4d6454e-e67a-11e7-ab50-621fe0588340_story.html?utm_term=.6c8a63881082
The profs like research.
@therealjrn wappo wappo wappo wappo…
@reg036 :high_five: :fist_bump:
@therealjrn On the other hand if the sample question is being used, the “creativity” part of the grading rubric will be graded as zero. Research won’t save that.
Maybe we need a thread like the goat history one. Last thread on this was early January too. It can be the new to the forum rinse and repeat jacket question. Then put the urls to the past threads. Save the next student a lot of time. Save us time too. Just refer them to the summary thread. Assignment done.
@marion1985 My kids don’t like to zip their jackets either. I always close my own jacket. My teen nephew is a shorts in winter type of guy. I am a jeans all year long type of person and I prefer to have long sleeves on as well.
@senoryeetz hope you are well wherever life has taken you…
Marion, if your siblings are 5 and 7, how old are you?? 9? 12? Just curious.
@moonhat
Excellent question! @Marion1985, do tell.
@jst1ofknd @Marion1985 with the 1985 in her username, she could be 34. Or not, who knows.
@moonhat
Thank you for doing that math.
what is this coat of which you speak? And why would I want to zip it?
(below freezing, ice on the ground, I wear sandals unless I have to walk on the ice, but I will still wear a skirt and a short sleeved top (or sleeveless) with a light weight sweater)
@Cerridwyn Are you a sort of Viking or something?
@compunaut Possibly @Cerridwyn is in up upstate NewYork. When I was a student at University of Rochester we’d walk around all winter in converse sneakers and no socks. Considering how much snow and slush was around and how long the walk was from some of the dorms to classes, etc. it is lucky we graduated with all 10 toes free of frostbite damage. Of course some folks wore hiking boots or (shutter) actual snow boots. But then again some of us also used cafeteria trays to sled down one of the hills, having to bail before we’d crash into the towers’ cafeteria.
Oh the glorious days when one had limited development of one’s frontal lobe (for those of you under about 28 or 30 just use that excuse when someone tells you, especially a parent, that you are being a dumb ass and should think before you act. That excuse has biology behind it).
@compunaut @Kidsandliz
Sunny Southern California
Norse ancestry
Always wondered why (knew intellectually) everyone was so bundled up when I was in a t-shirt with maybe something lightweight.
@Cerridwyn @compunaut Well then it is those around you who are nuts. That is a shorts year round location. At least from the point of view of those of us who grew up in the snow belt.
@compunaut @Kidsandliz
Yeah, but I mean when I was in Wisconsin in January for example.
@Cerridwyn Well then clearly at some point in time you had frostbitten your brain . Although I must admit one year when back from NW Ontario (back meaning snow belt for christmas) I was outside shoveling snow in 5 below with no hat (ears were covered though), jacket unzipped, etc. as it felt positively topical compared to the 40 to 60 below we had up in northern Canada.
@Kidsandliz
Nah, Just a high temperature tolerance
Since where I live, summers are 100+
@Kidsandliz My older daughter considered RIT (decided against it because they would switch from “terms” to “semesters” in her sophomore or junior year and it would have set her back about six months… that, plus such a long drive from home in NYC… she ended up at Binghamton) but anyways, the RIT campus had tunnels betwixt most of the buildings so flip-flops, t-shirts and shorts could be worn much of the time, even with several feet of snow outside.
@baqui63 The University of Rochester also had tunnels - but only between the buildings on the classroom quad. And there were some people who wore flip flops even outside in the snow and slush.
@Marion1985 We now have a lot of threads going on your jacket question. Do a good job and write them all up and likely you can win the gold star in your class for your assignment. Certainly it will be more interesting that what will happen for most of your classmates. I’ll even make it easy for you and tag you on the 5 that I see so far.
How can that be me, they are parents, I’m just a big sister!
@Marion1985 who said it was you?
@Marion1985 @RiotDemon
Not me!
@Marion1985 Why are you arguing? Did you come here to argue? Is this some mid-term sorority prank?
@therealjrn I would not argue lol.
@Marion1985 how did you find this website?
@RiotDemon Google search, why?
@Marion1985 just curious why you’d join a retail site to ask about kid’s jacket habits.
@Marion1985 Stay and play with us. You will find that we are a good crew once people get familiar with you. Don’t mind any snarkiness - it’s our way of showing love.
@mfladd So is my insistence on zipped up jackets haha.
@mfladd I can predict right now that this “Marion” is not going to stay. She? He? is duplicating a prior thread posted in a past January. I’m sticking with my school theory. I hope you get an “A” or pass the Greek challenge or whatever it is you are doing @Marion1985.
In case you aren’t, look up @Sammydog01, they lovelovelove new young people!
@Marion1985 @sammydog01 @therealjrn Perhaps they are just attempting to “wet their toes” here (again), or you may be right about the school theory. But why again a year later?
I am so full of positivity now that I am clawing at my skin and need eViL bath or something.
Comeback @SenorYeetz!!!
@Marion1985 @mfladd @sammydog01 @SenorYEETZ The year theory incorporates a lazy “media studies” professor to give the same assignment to interact on “social media” over the winter break. Since the kiddos go back soon, this “Marion” is trying to knock it out. Last year it was some other frosh. Apparently the prof provides the jacket question as an example.
Yeah, @SenorYEETZ, is winter break over? @mfladd and I miss you!
@Marion1985 @mfladd @sammydog01 @SenorYEETZ @therealjrn That sounds about right. Prof probably gets a lot of plagiarized papers back too. Or cheaters who use course hero. Since this appears to be an annual assignment bet there are last year’s papers in there. Joke will be on the student though if that crap has been sent through turnitin or safeassignment. And if they copy our posts without appropriate documentation it will come up as plagiarized since a good chunk of the web is in, especially turnitin.
@Kidsandliz @Marion1985 @mfladd @sammydog01 @therealjrn I’m back bitches
@Kidsandliz @Marion1985 @mfladd @sammydog01 Don’t sell yourself short, @SenorYEETZ. You are a perfectly fine front bitch.
