Herb grinder
Wonder what the risk is of getting charged with possession of drug paraphernalia when it arrives…?
Slim, I would say, since I ordered the silver version (not the poke ball) from Amazon a few years back with zero issues.
It’s for grinding basil from your garden. What were you planning on doing with it?
@sammydog01
@chienfou
Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
@f00l
/image smoked basil
@f00l that’s harsh man…
@chienfou
Your stash is harsh? Can’t you blunt that?
I can’t even.
/lives in washington/
but also you don’t just get charged with drug paraphernalia all willy nilly. and certainly not your mail.
What the fuck is wrong with you? This is the biggest complaint you have about woot? Don’t buy it. Problem solved.
@PantHeist no… the problem never was…
I was really hoping this thread was going to be about the solenoid @shawn and I have been chuckling about https://www.woot.com/offers/samsung-oem-door-switch-solenoid
@snapster @shawn
And exactly which part(s) of this part did the two of you find humorous?
@snapster gotta have a way to electronically detect when your pokéball herb grinder is open, this seems like a decent solution
ah, I bet this is going to be a “you had to be there” moment.
we were trying to figure out what this new category was “flash deals”. We studied it without an answer for a while. I suggested it was aggregating events from all of their dot-woot categories (due to the category listing on the left side of the main “flash deal” tab/page/whatever it is) and Shawn sent this deal within that page across slack with something like yep, here’s one from solenoid.woot.
@snapster I thought it was more of a “WHAT IN THE FUCK?!?” moments … except not much surprises me there anymore.
@snapster That is a seriously niche market for that item. And who buys that thinking they will turn them over in anything less than a few years?
@snapster I thought it was just a Amazon dumping ground for anything (as evidenced by solenoids and baking coils) with minimal inventory. This differs from Moofi, which is open box/scratch-dent, as they are all new items.
@ACraigL yeah, clearly it’s that. The humor we managed to find in it was thinking from a pure user perspective. This department is “flash sales”… it’s sorted by “Best Sellers”… There are two identical girls costumes with different list prices and different prices both at the time outselling this solenoid which was at the time in like 9th place on the bestseller list. Then they all have quantity 3 limit in order to make sure the wealth is spread around.
I think you have to be us, having gone through the mind numbing experience of warding this shit off to be all LOL.
@snapster Don’t forget this! https://www.woot.com/offers/dg47-00020b-bake-heater?ref=w_cnt_fd_1_24
@snapster Oh, I get the user perspective. There’s the occasional Nest or iPad, and rest is just junk. I’ve accepted the fact I’m not timely enough to jump on the good stuff, so I don’t really even look there anymore. It’s one more huge side-sale in the woot-verse.
I’ve managed my time there by limiting my browsing to the top-level offerings and select forums (i.e. shirts and main community).
@snapster Is that the part that fixes their “exploding washer” problem?
@snapster Just a beta thing we’re trying and we’ve been pretty upfront it’s sourced from the matercompany. Though the weirdest shit winner was over the holiday period when we had a pure bronze bar. I’m more confused why anyone ever listed that on Amazon let alone it bubble down to us. And yeah, it sold! https://www.woot.com/offers/solid-bar-bronze-unfnsh-od-3-in-1
@hyjinx oh there’s just zero defending this - it’s so over-the-top it’s parody. The value of woot could not be anymore trashed than it is by Amazons tragic failures. The entire company only makes sense inside emails to Amazon customers.
@Bingo plumbers???
@ACraigL Wish I could afford the refurb HP Zbooks that are sometimes listed - they are definitely NOT junk
@hyjinx You work for Woot? You’re not our soon to be writer, are you? And can you give me a heads up if they sell a refurb Kindle Oasis over there?
@snapster idk. After what happened to woot. Solenoid.woot makes me chuckle.
They were selling this on their App:
@MrMark Worth noting that it’s 100 dimes in the bag. They actually sold $10.00 and a bag for $20.00. At least 17 times, but more likely 25. If I knew I could sell money at 2x profit while TELLING everyone that’s what was happening, I would have gotten in that business a while ago.
http://www.woot.com/offers/woot-dime-bag
@ACraigL @MrMark
And I’m assuming that the pic for that listing which seems to include a couple of silver dimes isn’t nearly accurate. Also assuming that there are no proof dimes in any of the bags.
@PlacidPenguin @MrMark Nope, regular old dime, according to the thread. Oh, add $5 shipping. $25 for $10 in dimes.
@ACraigL
Sounds like a good deal to me.
@MrMark good thing this deal has “hassle-free returns”
@shawn probably with a $20 return shipping and handling fee.
@ACraigL OMG a statement on how much stupidity is out there and can operate a credit card and internet to buy that. It is almost unethical to take advantage of that level of dumb. I guess potential nominees for the Darwin award. Except we’d tell this bunch it would cost them money to be nominated and even more to win. Bet there would be a bidding war. LOL
@Kidsandliz “almost”?
@Kidsandliz Kickstarter Idea?
@RedOak Well they are upfront that the bag only has $10 worth of dimes in there and are charging double so they have done full disclosure… It just blows me away thought that anyone was dumb enough to buy the bag. There has to be more (or at least I hope so) like the dimes were older ones worth more than 10 cents or something.
@chienfou For you maybe… (grin)
@Kidsandliz It’s one of their joke items like the pizza ladder- it was sold out when they posted it.
@sammydog01 Do all ‘joke’ items have sales stats? Honestly asking. I try to avoid visiting woot at all these days.
@PantHeist The catapullover for sale today does not have stats. I could be wrong. I’m often wrong. Damn- missed it and I have a coupon.
@sammydog01 how much was the coupon for?
@PantHeist Five dollars so I would have been out ten bucks instead of fifteen. No one on the forums admitted to buying one. I think the sale was pretty funny myself- I don’t get the rage here.
@Kidsandliz Full disclosure does not excuse taking advantage of someone so ignorant they’d still buy it.
How would you feel if you stood on a street corner selling it and announcing “bag of $10 in dimes, only $20!”… and someone bought it?
@sammydog01 clearly it’s a joke. Where’s the “rage”?
@RedOak Oh for pete’s sake. I didn’t say I’d do something like this…
@RedOak $10 richer…
When I had a store, I sometimes put a dollar bill in the showcase with a $.25 price tag. Every now and then someone would notice and buy one. All for fun.
I’m really amazed/not amazed at the people who were complaining about this. It’s a tool for grinding various things, including weed. Either way, who cares? It’s not like it’s crackpipe.woot every day. One day they are selling something that is often used for weed though by no means exclusively. So what? When they sell stuff like this every day, then complain. Maybe. But seriously, one day?
@Bingo
I like this comment.
@PlacidPenguin is it really that easy to report someone?
/giphy people be dumb
@PlacidPenguin do the kids still play pokemon? I thought it’s recent success was due to nostalgic ~30 year olds.
@conandlibrarian Probably easier to report than to get the report read if I had to guess.
@PantHeist
This won’t answer your question, but it’s still worth sharing.
http://www.polygon.com/2016/8/14/12472616/pokemon-uranium-taken-down-nintendo
@PantHeist @conandlibrarian
For some things, reporting is extremely easy. Of course, depending on which agency it is, you may not get a response for a couple of weeks or months, but…
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@PlacidPenguin Yeah that was the one that really had my jaw on the floor
Who would want to grind up that bud anyway?
I got my wife an herb grinder as a stocking stuffer one christmas, and she keeps it in the kitchen and uses it to grind up dried rosemary from our garden on pork roasts. I never even realized they had other uses until her 20 something kids saw it and freaked out, wanting to know why mom had one of those.
I sell pizza at a state fair every year. One time I was in the middle of fair week and decided to clean out the storage room in the back of the trailer, and found a baggie full of dried oregano from the previous year. I was in the process of throwing it in the trash, when my step son, who was around 15 at the time, took it and left with his friends. I heard later they took a stroll down the crowded midway and casually dropped it, then stood back along the fence and waited for some one to pick it up. Apparently some excited looking guy did, and took off running; they said it was hilarious.
OK, I posted this earlier today, hung several sheets of sheetrock, went to work at my local ER and just got back home to check the response to what I (erroneously) thought was a blatant tongue-in-cheek question.
OK, so now that I got that off my chest, I only wish that MJ would go ahead and get nationally legalized so all this BS wouldn’t be necessary!
Cheech and Chong -Bad Ass Weed…
@chienfou shrug tone doesn’t translate well on text-based communication. Hope you’re feeling alright.
@PantHeist I’d probably feel better if pot were legal locally!
@chienfou it is here, I’m still drunk.
@PantHeist well played!
They also had a plasma lighter on one of the other tabs.
Guys, it’s not even April yet!
I actually own two of the pokéball grinders. They’re pretty decent at 4 bucks a piece elsewhere.
