I wish there were more front porches in my neighborhood. Growing up, no one had back decks, they were all on the front of the house. That means you could see Tony was out enjoying a bourbon and cigar and could wander over to see if he had any leftover meatballs or Gary was out drinking some Natty Lites and maybe you could wander over to see if his daughter was available to play. There was just more community when everyone was out facing the street instead of huddled on their own back patios.
@show_the_maw I would agree. In some neighborhoods I lived almost everyone had a front porch and many used them. Others almost none. One of the problems I found is when I live in the deep south (other than elsewhere) most people don’t sit outside anywhere, front porch or not, in the heat and humidity of the summer.
@show_the_maw i guess it depends on the neighborhood. summer here is definitely stoop sittin’ time…where everybody just stares at anyone who goes down the street with a look that says “who the fuck are you and what are you doing on my street?” even if you’ve lived there almost a decade lol. tho to be honest, we share a house with two other families and i couldn’t pick a single person from the first floor out of a lineup.
I wait for the moment to pass, get a cold beer and go back to an online game.

if i’m enjoying a drink outside, i’m already at a friend’s house and it’s probably an ungodly hour. there’s an additional but even slimmer chance i may also be at an outdoor concert. in other words, i don’t endeavor to drink outdoors, but it does happen on rare occasions.
i do miss enjoying a drink (or grilled food, or simply existing) on the deck of our old place. next time we move, i’m hoping we’ll be in a position to make some outdoor space a must.
I like to be on the lake drinking in the summer but I don’t know what the lake looks like with all the time I spend in the hospital these days let alone a drink.
@Star2236 I’ve always preferred oceans over lakes but I’ve never had a lakeside drink . Hopefully you get out of the hospital soon…if you’re near Tampa maybe we can make it happen!

It’s not me in the hospital it my dad but I’m there almost daily with him and the days I’m not I’m just to tired to get off the couch. I do have a step uncle that lives in Venice beach that I need to go visit.
I have AT LEAST one old fashioned in the front yard every evening unless it’s raining. Plus my medication vape . That mosquito stuff I bought from Meh still works, even though it “expired” last Dec.
FYI today it didn’t rain. I had 3. I’m pretty fucking wasted right now. At least I’m inside again. Watching the NBA finals. Waiting for midnight to click “meh”
My go-to cold drink spot is the shady clearing in the woods next to the house. There are reclining chairs, side tables and a hammock strung between the trees. And even a fire ring (for when it’s not so bloody dry).
Me and the outside don’t get along. So if I have to be outside I’m probably drinking water.
But I’ve been enjoying Turkey Hill blackberry iced tea with some blackberry whiskey added in.

@macromeh you’re living my dream. What I would do for 10 acres, a tall berm, some chickens, a few goats a hobby hog.

In summertime Houston, outdoors drinks YOU. I’d take Telluride by choice, but it’s a long walk.
