Protip: the active ingredient in Tylenol PM, Unisom gelcaps (not regular Unisom), and Zzzquil is the same thing: diphenhydramine, aka Benadryl. And Benadryl is almost always cheaper than any of those!
@cpierce Diphenhydramine works for me, but I don’t like the side effects if I take it very often. Lately, I’ve tried doxylamine succinate (after seeing it mentioned in meh forums) and it seems to be easier on the side effects. One half tab (12.5mg) plus a 3mg melatonin and I usually sleep through the night.
@reclaimercube hmmmm, interesting! I was gifted a bottle of Fireball by Seminole Hard Rock casino on the 17th and then came down with a cold on the 19th. Took Zicam and Excedrin and the occasional bourbon shot which pretty much killed it by the 21st except for a bit of congestion. But I gotta admit I never even considered the Fireball…it’s a little out of my wheelhouse. Do you shoot it, warm it, or what?
Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) is the drug used in Tylenol PM and Advil PM and all of the other night time meds like Zzquil. Just take Benadryl and save a bucket of $'s and your liver, too. SLO melatonin from allergy research works well as does a few capsules of Ornithine.
Vetiver, lavender, Roman chamomile, Sandalwood for normal sleep. If I’m sick, add Rosemary, clove, orange, cinnamon, eucalyptus. Peppermint if I’m stuffy.
Nyquil (or a house-brand knockoff) usually works better for me than the other remedies in the sense of putting me out for a full 8, but if I take it for more than two days running it stops being effective. Melatonin and Benadryl typically give me only five or six hours uninterrupted sleep, then I wake up wired. A hot toddy knocks me out for about four hours; I wake up having to go to the bathroom, but I can usually get back to sleep again without much difficulty.
The real NyQuil formula…which unfortunately is only available as a generic at Walgreens anymore as far as I can tell. It knocked me out for 10 hours last night.
I use Mucinex for the drainage part and I used a product called Sleep by Vasayo. I sell it so I don’t want to put the shameless link here. It works great for everyday use. Fall asleep and stay asleep better, without the sloth-like groggy morning. No warnings about operating heavy machinery. If allowed, just ask me for a link to it.
I worked at a vitamin shop when I was younger. One day when I was working someone told me his trick was to drink red wine because, 1) it would help him sleep, and 2) it is high in bioflavonoids. Made sense to me at the time and I’ve been doing it since.
Gag down some night time Theraflu and drink herbal tea to get the hot sunny-d flavor out of my mouth… A bath in some homeopathic mustard seed and wintergreen stuff my mom gave me seems to help too
Until I quit, menthols - Camel Crush was the best. Now that I’ve quit, I’ve found that Advil PM does a good job of knocking me right the fuck out and keeping me out, and if I have a cold bad enough to take something, being unconscious is often preferable to the alternative.
My bed.
If I’m sick and I have sense enough to just get in bed, I’ll sleep. A long time.
@2many2no yes.

@cpierce you can get a 600-ct bottle at the warehouse club for like $5.

People who sleep are not your midnight EST crowd…

Maybe both!! This might just work!
@llangley typically just a swig from the bottle. Alcohol puts me to sleep.
@reclaimercube I will try it next go-round!!
@llangley @reclaimercube Chilled shots take the pain away pretty quickly. A few more add back a different kind of pain pretty quickly too…
Every woman in our circle of friends has had that one bad hangover caused specifically by Fireball. They’re all a bit wary of it now…

You never heard of Benadryl? Great for long family trips too.

Just plain old diphenhydramine…
The real NyQuil formula…which unfortunately is only available as a generic at Walgreens anymore as far as I can tell. It knocked me out for 10 hours last night.
@dhjames What’s in that?
@InnocuousFarmer It’s the same as normal NyQuil, but still has pseudoephedrine instead of phenylephrine like the old NyQuil. Way better decongestant.
@dhjames - I don’t think you can get pseudoephedrine products around here without a prescription.
@aetris usually you just need to show id at the pharmacy to get anything with pseudoephedrine.
@RiotDemon - Well, THAT’s good news - I’ll check that out this afternoon!
Doxylamine succinate. It’s the other unisom formula, since I became immune to the soporific effects of diphenhydramine years ago.
@jitc Huh. I’ve done the same with iocaine powder.
@jitc @shahnm
A mallet.
@ThomasF That’ll get you hammered.

CRASH powder (available on morningsave.com)
Nyquil !
I think there is some ingredient in there that they are not telling us about. But, whatever…, it works; for me, at least.
Lots of subutex(or suboxone), hell, they were invented to make sure you don’t get sick.
Get a script for promethazine dm syrup if you are in a coughing way. Works for me.

@00 Yeah. That’s it! That’s why I drink all that red wine. That’s now my story and I’m sticking with it…
when feel sick I smoke weed… well even when I don’t feel bad I smoke weed just different kind for different things…
@dizzyhart …different things…like smoking more weed?
Is this thread contagious?
Xanax!

Hot shower works well for me, in sickness and in exhaustion.
Two shots of Wild Turkey Honey. Not a joke. That’s classic medicine. Sleep good. Breaks up congestion. Wake up rested and refreshed.
Macaroni and cheese and a few shots of rum. Not mixed. Just eat the food and then shoot.
