Campground with running water and flush toilets. Air mattress in the tent. I’ve done all kinds of camping and that’s as rustic as I like to go now. It’s my trip, I do what I want.
My neighbors are doing a diy conversion of a transit van into a camper, and it’s SO COOL. They have a sleeping platform with space under it for their mountain bikes; they’re still working on it so I don’t know what else they’ve added but I’m envious.
When I went car camping with the wife and son and his friend we always went to a campground near the beach for a week. We’d reserve one of our favorite sites in a very tree heavy loop so we were pretty isolated. Slept in a couple of tents. It was really fun.
Other times I go camping is when I’m elk hunting with my friends. A couple of them have RVs but I usually end up sleeping on a cot in the snowmobile trailer. The worst part of that is that the floor is like walking on spikes.
Remember something I left in the house and go back inside. And stay. I obviously left my mind behind because there’s no way I’d willingly want to go camping.
I used to take people camping for a living working for outdoor adventure programs in a handful of countries. I do everything from remote backpacking/canoeing to sleeping in my minivan when driving to and from places rather than waste money on a motel.
I camped a few times when I was younger. Always ended up with my sleeping on a rock. Hated smutz stuck on everything and peeing in the woods. Tried an RV too but I’m claustrophobic. I like my sleep number mattress and hot shower better.
I haven’t gone camping since I left the Army. I’m not comfortable sleeping on the ground. My daughter, on the other hand, will take her Bronco and disappear into the woods anywhere for a week at a time.
@dptalia oh no my dear…
3 days, the Most Basic of stretched picture cable feeds, and NO WiFi.
a few years ago (2017?) I drove my buddy out to Oklahoma to be with the rest of his family at his little bro’s Graduation from Boot Camp.
when we got to town, the hotel I Booked had
the basic cable, but no Wifi (available for a fee i was willing to pay, but it was broken), and no Coffee maker in room. (they do have it in the lobby from 6-11am, but and we had to be on base at 5am to get our visitors passes, Ft. Sill has their own access rules)
now Granted it was a Motel 6… but no complementary wifi…in 2017?
hell the coffee was the easy part, there was a dollar general down the street, so I bought the Cheapest/only-ist coffee maker they had, some basic palatable coffee, and filters.
the next day picked up sugar packets and creamers at the walmart.
I was tempted/ prepared to just leave the maker in the room, but my buddy had to bring it home, and now it’s boxed up in his basement as an emergency spare…
had I known they didn’t have a coffee pot in the room, I would have just packed the Keurig that was collecting dust on a shelf in MY basement.
Stay at a hotel…
@shahnm 13 years in the army makes you appreciate comfort!
@shahnm my wife is not into camping… At all…
Embassy suites because they have great breakfast
@ironcheftoni
Yes! Haven’t been in years but the best.
When I camp, I don’t go.
…wonder what apocalyptic event could have resulted in such a dire situation?!
I don’t see Hampton Inn listed?
I am surrounded by girl campers. It’s in tents.
/giphy tents
Plan to get a 3-4 season truck camper for retirement. Then I can camp wherever a pickup can go.

Grab the blender and go outside
I hate camping but if I did camp, I’d go all out like Pete in “A Goofy Movie”
Hotel.

Usually at something Hilton.
Preferably somewhere warm and sunny.
At a campsite only for a mountain bike festival.

…stay in an Airbnb RV.
@ThunderChicken I didn’t know there was such a thing. Seriously?
@katbyter Yup. I stayed in one recently.

Don’t. No camping for me.
I haven’t gone camping since I left the Army. I’m not comfortable sleeping on the ground. My daughter, on the other hand, will take her Bronco and disappear into the woods anywhere for a week at a time.
also T-bag them and gank them again as soon as they respawn.
Roughing it is basic cable at the hotel.
