@mfladd@Zeusandhera
Then in STL, we have Carl’s Drive-in featuring original recipe IBC root beer made in-house. It is also home to 16 barstools serving up the best damned diner burgers in town, if not the entire midwest.
@testoclesarroyo Only thing I’d rather drink in the summer than Cold beer is Free Cold beer. You can keep your free hot beer (unless I can take it home to my refrigerator).
@QuietDelusionsGood cider is the key. And you don’t know until you tuck into it. I have four bottles of cider in my fridge that taste like wine (blech) and it will never be consumed. Should just toss it or maybe give it to some homeless guy…
@lakertaylor13@simplersimon The question was, “What’s your preferred style of summer beer,” so Kool-Aid or Tab might have been odd options to include, no?
@mvalleeis I much prefer beer to cider, but the hopped cider I tried was pretty good (sorry, I don’t recall the brand). It was fairly lightly hopped and not bitter.
I’ll go with anything not called an IPA. If I wanted to drink pure bitterness, I’d just grind up ibuprofen and eat that. At least I’ll be sure not to run a fever and I’ll be keeping the swelling down on any of my current injuries.
Yes, those von Trapps (the hills are also alive with the taste of lager).
I’m not much of a beer drinker - pretty much only drink it in the summer after a hot day doing yard work - but I’ve really enjoyed each of their varieties I’ve tried.
My favorite flavor is the Dunkel, which is surprisingly sweet for such a dark beer - it has hints of chocolate and coffee. But, it’s a pretty heavy beer and after yard work, the crisper the better, so their Pilsner is the one I end up drinking most often.
Their seasonal and specialty varieties are kinda hard to find here in MA, aside from their 4 core varieties, I’ve only tried the Weissbier.
I rarely drink alcohol-about two sips a month of my wife’s wine and I dislike almost all beer. Much more refreshing is Polar diet orange soda (I think I have said this before in this forum), but it seems to be mostly in New England and is made in Worcester, MA.
@Stumpy91 The most recent beer I brewed was a hazy NE IPA, the first I have attempted. After years of striving to produce nice, clear beers, I was a little skeptical. Gotta say it turned out pretty good!
@macromeh great! I just finished a 5 gallon keg of homebrew hazy IPA. It turned out really good also. Killed the keg surprisingly fast. I think I’ll brew it again soon.
We have a local micro-brewery that has some outstanding choices…Highly recommended if you’re ever in the Moorhead, MN area!! IPA’s, Stouts, Sours, and a few others are always in rotation. A lot of their beers are being distributed in the Minneapolis/St Paul metro in “Crowlers” which are a 750 ml can as well.
yeah, i’ve finally accepted that i don’t like beer and that’s okay. some beers are certainly better than others, and i’ll drink beer at a party if there’s no other alcohol and i don’t want to leave, as well as once in a blue moon (heh) at a pub, although i always switch to whisky and/or water after one.
i’ll take vodka or good tequila in terms of summer booze, or ice water, iced tea, iced green tea latte, boba tea, etc in terms of the non-alcoholic stuff.
Jeez, the Ladies’ Temperance Movement weighing in here pretty hard. It was a poll about beer. Why click the link if you don’t drink alcohol? Just needed to get your snit on?
I generally like most all beers. Some have more emotional attachment than others. I have an affinity for Shandy due to having drunk a bunch of it on this cruise
Root.

@mfladd @Zeusandhera You can get mini-kegs of Sprecher’s in Milwaukee, straight from the brewery.

@mfladd @Zeusandhera that place!!
@Zeusandhera Birch is pretty good too.
Free. Second favorite is cold.
@testoclesarroyo Only thing I’d rather drink in the summer than Cold beer is Free Cold beer. You can keep your free hot beer (unless I can take it home to my refrigerator).
If I have to drink beer, I’ll take a good lambic sour, something with a bit of fruit to it. Though 9 times out of 10, I’d prefer a good cider.
So glad cider has gotten popular. It lets me be picky!
@QuietDelusions +1 on the lambic sour.
Have a New Glarus Belgian Red in the fridge right now calling me to imbibe soon.
@mike808 Oh, daaaaaamn. I haven’t had that in a long while - and it sure is tasty. I’m jealous!
@QuietDelusions Good cider is the key. And you don’t know until you tuck into it. I have four bottles of cider in my fridge that taste like wine (blech) and it will never be consumed. Should just toss it or maybe give it to some homeless guy…
hard cider.
I don’t drink alcohol.
@lakertaylor13 yep. And they almost never list that option.
@lakertaylor13 @simplersimon The question was, “What’s your preferred style of summer beer,” so Kool-Aid or Tab might have been odd options to include, no?
Send me one of each and I’ll find out.
@JT954 Only one?
The one that’s made from apples (or other fruit) and isn’t a beer. AKA cider.
@mvalleeis But with hopped ciders, the lines start to blur. (Especially if you drink enough of them!)
@macromeh I’d never heard of hopped cider until I saw it at the HEB tonight. Is it good?
@mvalleeis I much prefer beer to cider, but the hopped cider I tried was pretty good (sorry, I don’t recall the brand). It was fairly lightly hopped and not bitter.
A citrusy or hazy IPA
Come summertime, I prefer a lukewarm day-old beer that has at least one dead bug in it.
@UncleVinny that’s been sitting in a red cup on the lawn for a couple days, right? yummers.
@moonhat Memorable stuff!
IPA, or many of the above…
Agreed. Here is this summer’s favorite IPA:
I don’t like beer GASP Why was that not a choice?
/image franziskaner
No love for Kölsch, meh?
How was hard cider not a choice? That’s the best thing when sitting on the beach…a nice cold cider with a crisp, sweet, slightly tart taste. Yum!!
COINCIDENCE? I don’t think so.
I’ll go with anything not called an IPA. If I wanted to drink pure bitterness, I’d just grind up ibuprofen and eat that. At least I’ll be sure not to run a fever and I’ll be keeping the swelling down on any of my current injuries.
@zinimusprime that made me literally laugh out loud
Agree with the previous votes for cider!
How about water and you put that beer back in the horse that pissed it.
Helles Lager
Coke
The Shiner Heatwave has been pretty good this summer.
@Shadow210 They all sound delicious.
@Shadow210 As someone who distinctly dislikes beer, that Prickly Pear Shiner is really good!
Whiskey on the rocks. Great whether it’s hot or cold out. The blend depends on my mood.
If you live in or visit the northeast, try von Trapp lagers:
https://www.vontrappbrewing.com
Yes, those von Trapps (the hills are also alive with the taste of lager).

Wine
a crisp pilsner
I rarely drink alcohol-about two sips a month of my wife’s wine and I dislike almost all beer. Much more refreshing is Polar diet orange soda (I think I have said this before in this forum), but it seems to be mostly in New England and is made in Worcester, MA.
You left out Cold. As long as it’s cold and tastes like piss it’s fine.
@cranky1950 That is so uncranky of you.
Heilleman’s Special Export (same people that make PBR) is a perennial fave at Milwaukee’s SummerFest.
Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy is also very tasty.
Cold, very cold on a hot day.
Some bourbon.
No scotch.
No beer.
@llangley Everybody funneh. Now you funneh too.
@llangley @Pony …I saw that…
Same as winter. None. Blech
The only time I spit.
@lseeber that’s gonna hurt if it’s beer (looks like it’s blowing out her nose…)
@chienfou Yup
About anything not beer
I’m a lager kinda girl and in the summer it’s hard to beat a Modelo with lime.
I’ll also take the occasional IPA.
Mostly, I just drink tequila or whiskey with the my dudes and champagne with my lady friends.
… Unless it’s Cheyenne… Then all bets are off and my nights are either super healing and relaxing or it’s pure anarchy.
Kolsch. I can’t brew lagers, cream ales are a close second.
Free. The free kind is the very best.
Spiked Seltzer. I hate beer.
@Pony some of those are suprisingly not too bad!
@moonhat I add a dash of Mio water enhancer (raspberry lemonade) to them, and they’re like adult Kool Aid. I am so hooked.
@moonhat @Pony Guess you didn’t read my story about Mio.

@cinoclav Sorry you have a reaction to Sucralose. I don’t have a problem with it.
Yes.
An IPA. And lately New England style hazy IPA.
Oxbow Arboreal Farmhouse Ale.
The subtle ginger is the key here.

In the summer, most lighter German Beer or American Microbrew beer. IPAs and German Hefe’s are good too.
NO FLAVORED BEER PLEASE.
Labatt lights all the way. Although my favorite summer drink is muddled watermelon in vodka with simple syrup and lime.
@star2236 Hear that @Seeds?
Whiskey

All of the above… Plus: Kolsch, Berliner Weisse, Schwarzbier. Belgian golden, Belgian white, Tripel, Saison. ESB, Porter.
Yeah, you can still drink dark beer in the summer. I recommend
/image Boulder Beer Shake
Just a good ol’ Coors Light!
I like the taste of beer but not the way it makes me feel bloated and gross. I prefer a good tart cider, or better still, a Campari and soda.
yeah, i’ve finally accepted that i don’t like beer and that’s okay. some beers are certainly better than others, and i’ll drink beer at a party if there’s no other alcohol and i don’t want to leave, as well as once in a blue moon (heh) at a pub, although i always switch to whisky and/or water after one.

@jerk_nugget blue moon, good one, hah!
More Beer!
I LOVE Beer.

I generally like most all beers. Some have more emotional attachment than others. I have an affinity for Shandy due to having drunk a bunch of it on this cruise
My bad. Thought this was a poll about your favorite style of summer beef.
