I once had jury duty 4 hours drive from my home in July, in NM, and I only have a motorcycle. Used SPF70 for the ride there, and it wasn’t enough. Got roasted. Stayed the night in the court city and next morning got some SPF90 for the ride back. It was strong enough to at least prevent my sunburn from getting worse.

You probably either had expired sunscreen or didn’t apply it well enough. They say anything over spf 30 doesn’t really do much difference than spf 30.
@Star2236 Heh, could be. Also the entire trip was near or above a mile over sea level. The UV index can be a little high. Actually it could be the difference between a spray sunscreen and a lotion too. I seem to recall it was a spray going out and a lotion on the return trip.
The higher the number the better, I don’t care about getting a tan, I’m naturally a tan colour…
I will still forget to put it on often- but thanks to my Eastern European ancestors I tend not to burn much (and if I do it’s usually mild)… but I still try to remember to put it on anyway because… I don’t fancy cancer.
@shawn_mitch spammers gonna spam!
My domains all have “-all”, don’t need no spammers spoofing my domains in their nefarious campaigns for phishing and ransomwarez.
I didn’t know that 30 SPF was as good as anything higher. But then again I never used SPF! I’ve always used baby oil, I obviously don’t have a problem with getting burned. Back in my younger years iodine would be mixed with the baby oil for that extra rich bronze glow. Skin cancer became really real for me a few years back, thankfully not the super bad kind and it’s totally gone now. This will be the first time using SPF.

@Star2236 @user31820230, that’s why I selected 30. Not much difference beyond that.

100 if I go out. I think I have some vampire ancestry.

@OnionSoup I remember the days when it was suntan lotion, not sunscreen. Protection from sunburn was not something that it provided at all.
i’m blond and white AF and never burn with 30. seems like a pointless arms race for anything more.
SPF 100, but I’m also wearing long sleeves, long pants, and a wide brim hat for maximum protection. Florida’s sun is no joke.
My preferred SPF is v=spf1 +all

I am been indoors way too long. I want to be bronze again.
From my understanding, above 30 is the same protection for more money.
I used to get the Noxzema SPF100 to use when I went out riding my bike, but now it’s just SPF70. Grump.
I Always make sure to apply it before going in the sun, it does make a difference and spf 30 is good enough for me.
I prefer never seeing the sun. I want to live in a cave, miles underground.
