@ACraigL I always believed the marshmallows loved being s’mores because it gave meaning to their existence…giving them depth of flavor, texture, color and temperature…uniting them with chocolate and graham, the other two food groups…putting smiles on the faces of the littles…getting out of the bag.
Middle of winter, roasted over the stove top that you’re running full blast anyway because your shitty apartment doesn’t have actual heat in it but gas is included in rent. Also they’re made with hot dog slices instead of marshmallows because who is ever going to remember to buy marshmallows?
I really enjoy s’mores flavored things(ice cream, granola bars, etc.) But don’t like s’mores at all. I especially do not like the burnt marshmallow action. It’s essentially warm marshmallow fluff surrounded in charcoal that you are supposed to eat and I don’t like to eat charcoal…at all!
@sicc574 If there’s charcoal, that marshmallow was made by an impatient newbie. I roast mine slowly, far above the flames. Soft brown and totally melted. Mmmmm.
I was known to burn my marshmallows cause. Kid. Fire. Flaming glob of goo. Obviously the correct way is to toast/maillard reaction but. I still find them more trouble than they are worth. But with a group of kids is easy to have everyone do one.
Winter, because it feels a little mischievous. And you can add cinnamon or use chili-pepper chocolate and it just seems more winterphisticated. Try them with a nice home-made (meaning heat the milk, mix in unsweetened cocoa and sugar) hot chocolate (and maybe a little booze!) and you have a winter winner!

There is no season which makes those things “enjoyable” for me. They might be excusable on rare occasions, but never enjoyable.

@ybmuG A tiny dash of cayenne intensifies the cocoa amazingly, but you need to let it have a minute or two to work its magic before drinking.
