My whole issue with the cargo/tactical pants/shorts thing is that if you’re Smashing the State, either from the left in the 70’s or from the right in the 20’s, is you don’t want to run from the fascists/libs/magas/russians with your gps unit whacking the side of your knee bones and crushing your cell phone while sliding down the rocky ravine to escape the hail of gunfire.
Proper utility vests (kevlar of course), belts and a proper backpack/shoulder bag are the way to go if you want to “runaway to live and fight another day”. Save the pockets in your pants for the Clif bars and your botanical diary.
@ironcheftoni For sure, although sometimes even when they give us pockets they’re inferior. I love this coat, but the real pocket has a stupid “decorative” zipper outside of it! What a waste!
They make these strap-on equipment pouches designed for the film industry that are basically tool belts but for one leg only. The designers obviously watched a bit too much Naruto but a lot of people agree they are quite handy and better suited for rigging than most tool belts. It’s just basically impossible to wear in a dignified way.
Does a cell phone holster count? My vote is for that. Not because of its overwhelming utility, but because it ruthlessly places you in fashion purgatory, never to escape.
You can have my cargo shorts when you peel them off my cold, dead, plumped dadbod legs.
Loincloth

Tactical G-String
@daveinwarsh Is that the kind with three separate compartments?
Like a microchip for a pet. If they get escape, you know where to return them.
Occidental Leather tool belts. The best you can buy.
Kilt.
@yakkoTDI Sans underwear?

@detailer @yakkoTDI Listen to the youtube above and you shall see
@detailer Of course. They even made a song about it. I think it is called ‘Born Free.’

Scotty vest with all its hidden pockets

Hard to beat a jock strap for functionality (at least for a guy).
My belt. I don’t leave home without it for fear of indecent (aka grotesque) exposure.
/showme the best ruthlessly utilitarian clothing item
@heartny Doesn’t look all that utilitarian but it does look kind of stylish.
Bras are both ruthless and utilitarian.
Boxers.
They carry the only thing that’s really important.
