@RiotDemon We usta hang lights with 20ft step ladders you kinda straddled the top step and got a feeling for the sway of the ladder and used a rope to pull up lights and and them on the electric and tighten clamps. Only one almost went over and it took 4 of us to get it stable so the guy on top could climb down and shit his pants.
So, it’s not nearly as self-destructive as the other poll options, but…
I make a lot of things out of leather. Every so often, when I make something really nice, I have a near irresistible urge to sweep an exacto blade over it, and totally ruin it. I have no idea why, and thankfully I’ve been able to resist. So far.

Does me cooking/baking count? I love to cook but >50% of what I do is bad (not including things like spaghetti, which consists of a box of pasta, a can that says “pasta sauce”, a pound of ground beef, and a shaker can of parmesan. Not sure if you can call it cooking if you heat the first 3 and top them with the 4th.) So I should not cook/bake but I am constantly subjecting my family to new dishes/desserts.

Actually, most unusual one I had was many years ago while visiting a university physics lab. (Apparently before safety and liability concerns, come to think of it). They had an experiment with a large dye laser running in open air, and it was powerful enough that you could clearly see the yellow beam in the air as it went around the optical table. Such a bright, lovely, vivid yellow beam… I had an almost uncontrollable impulse to put my hand in front of it.
When I mentioned it to the colleague running the experiment, he claimed that the result shouldn’t be much worse than a cigarette burn - if I moved my hand fast enough. I decided to leave my hand intact.
I always fantasize about opening the emergency exit every time I’m on a plane. Not so much while in the air, but at the end of the flight when that woman two rows closer to the exit waits in the aisle until she feels ready to take her time wrangling down the steamer trunk she brought as a carry-on and managed to stuff in the overhead compartment.
On a semi-related note, I also fantasize about the airline sending people into the plane in order by seat number instead of group, and of having a system where everyone is loaded into the plane in an individual pod they sleep or watch digital programming in throughout the entire flight.
Throwing my phone from a fast moving vehicle. In second would be throwing an object from a significant height. I’m most concerned I want to throw things in the first place…
@jerue OK, this is one I can relate to. More likely my laptop than phone, though. And I’ll settle for a second- or third-story window, since I don’t have anything higher than that.
I refer to these ideas as a “hold my beer and watch this…” move. I also may have grown up in Pittsburgh where there are close ties to West Virginia and lots of “hold my beer” requests before doing something completely stupid and usually resulting in bodily harm.

Full on punching someone in the face that I love, care or respect at full strength. It’s a horrifying intrusive thought and until I learned how common it was in people, I was worried I was secretly a psycho. Many of these people in my life are much smaller than me and would probably be dead

That irrational desire to do something that would have clear negative results.
Some of my recurring gungbungadungs include:
Jumping off a tall building
Breaking glass that is only supposed to be broken in case of emergency
Opening an airplane door (why do they make that lever so big?)
Grabbing a cop’s gun from his or her holster
When I’m heating jewelry pieces with an acetylene torch to anneal them, I have to keep my left hand in my pocket as it really, really wants to touch the pretty, glowing metal.
While some of the Gungbungadung aren’t necessarily deadly, I always thought the jumping off a building, driving off a bridge/into oncoming traffic stuff was the “Thanatos Urge”, or Freudian “Death Drive”. And it always happens to me, and some of my friends agree it happens often, and others have never hear of such a thing or thought of it. I like the prior idea of shooting a nuke at the moon though.
