Whatcha listening to?
11Ok, I’ll say it again…whatcha listening to for music right now?
I’ll start with two songs I’m feeling right now…
Julia Michaels - All your exes
I am feeling many of her songs right now. She is a very talented songwriter. She writes for many artists besides herself.
p.s. She has a dark side
The second is James Arthur - September
It’s been a long time since I’ve shared a topic here. So give me something I’ll love!

Ok, one more Julia Michaels song - Little did I know.
Been listening to this banger for a while.
/youtube opus #1
@mike808 For some strange reason I can’t not hear the theme for Beverly Hills Cop when I am listening to that…
/youtube fall out boy centuries
If you want to hear me sing along very loudly in the car, this has been the one recently for me.
The video is silly, but the song is fire.
/youtube panic at the disco lying is the most fun a girl can have
Another one from around the same era.
Neither are bands that I would consider my favorites, but the songs have been giving me energy.
@RiotDemon Yup, Yup…love FOB Centuries! I had not heard that Panic song, so thanks!
@mfladd glad I could introduce you to it. It’s definitely a song I crank loudly and feel certain things when listening to, lol.
Glad to see you around.
Retro ear worm. Fun/creepy video. (Lord Huron, “Mine Forever”)
@ircon96 Worth the price of admission. I liked it!
Mostly, if I’m having any music, it’s the YouTube channel of Samuel Kim’s reworks of movie, game, anime and trailer themes.
@werehatrack
/youtube kill the noise
/youtube back from the dead halestorm
@2many2no Yeeeees! Especially, love Kill the noise
@mfladd Def a banger! Need to see them live again.
If I’m lucky, Volbeat this week.
@2many2no oooooh. How did I miss this new papa roach video???
How funny. Same vibe from the set as this:
/youtube Apocalyptica white room
@2many2no also, since we are on a Jacoby Shaddix train…
/youtube ice nice kills hip to be scared
Friday was
And
Saturday was
And
Sunday
And
Who the hell knows today. I’m still on coffee and silence.
@sillyheathen I got to see PWEI open for NIN way back when those two songs were on current releases.
@yakkoTDI me too!! Downward spiral tour 95?
@sillyheathen Yes! Saw them in Orlando.
@sillyheathen You introduced me to Pop will eat itself and goldfinger, so thanks! I really liked Pop will eat itself. For some reason they give me a primus type vibe. And Nina Simone is classic!!
@sillyheathen
Love love love Nina Simone!
And Sly …
@Kyeh she’s one of my all time favorites. As a crazy band nerd from south Louisiana, I have an insanely eclectic love of most music.
@mfladd yay! There are so many fun ones! If you like crazy Nordic goth vibe you should look up Liv Kristine. Oh or super fun dancy jam out with Goldfrapp. I could talk music all damn day if you let me.
@yakkoTDI that’s awesome. I got to see them in New Orleans. Was my first concert with just friends and I’ll spare the crazy details but it was epic and I finally made my way home at almost 5am to an extremely angry mother who was hell bent on sending me to school but she couldn’t have paid me to stay home.
POKER! JOKER! NOT MEDIOCRE! AWESOME!
@mediocrebot you’re not wrong and thanks for not mentioning the squirrels.
I’m listening to mimes play air guitar.
@rockblossom Ironic miming, the latest in noise pollution!
@ircon96 Yes. I much prefer it with speakers muted.
@rockblossom I don’t care what people say. Mime rock is ageless!
@mfladd For anyone into vinyl, I recommend The Best of Marcel Marceao : each side is 19 minutes of silence followed by applause.
https://www.discogs.com/Marcel-Marceao-The-Best-Of-Marcel-Marceao/release/2049955
@mfladd @rockblossom
Mime plays air guitar
I wish he weren’t out of tune
Or played quieter
@mfladd @rockblossom
That’s pretty funny (I’m guessing the misspelling is to keep from pissing off the mime)
My favorite (highbrow) graffiti was in a bathroom and said:
" " ~Marcel Marceau
K.Flay, “Can’t Sleep” (& a little freerunning demo/eye candy never hurts)
@ircon96 K.Flay is always good. And grandson, the male version of K.Flay.
@ircon96 Love K. Flay! She is sooo under-rated.
@Lister Funny you mention him, “Oh No” is right next to K. in my current playlist… Good stuff!
Right now:
Peer Gynt Suite No. 2, Opus 55
Grieg, Edvard
San Francisco Symphony
On All Classical 89.9 KQAC FM Portland
@macromeh I can always appreciate some classical when in the mood!
@macromeh @mfladd I am a fan of classical.
When the radio breaks at work:
/youtube Carpenter Brut Trilogy
Synthwave deliciousness.
@RiotDemon methinks this will be perfect for the designing I have to do today! Cheers big ears!
@sillyheathen I hope you like it! It brings me great joy.
@RiotDemon so happy. Focused dancy production in the murder shed today!
@RiotDemon Enjoying this.
@Doooood @sillyheathen I’m glad I could share my joy.
@Doooood @RiotDemon @sillyheathen
For some anytime is shed time tunez.
Thanatos Prime
Love all the sharing of great music so far!
Let’s see if we ping the infamous @Kittysprinkles if she might share something she’s listening to
Now onto a bit of bluegrassy feels!
Ok, a couple more…
Banks - Beggin for thread
And an oldie (2010), but goodie.
Jimmy Eat World - The Middle
It’s Oktoberfest time!
Kanye West-Germany is my jam.

@mike808 Ahh, Mr. Ye, always trying to expand the fan base. Must be going for the Lawrence Welk demo now?
This has been in the heavy rotation lately (and in various remixes, as tends to happen a lot in the edm [I’m not as much really into the edm generally, but totally on trance/goa]) along with Spotify “radio” driven by it:
@joelmw The voiceover totally sounds like Christoph Waltz to me and I was hoping it’s from a movie I haven’t seen (but obviously need to). I’m pretty sure it isn’t. Sigh. But I still fantasize that it is. Something along the lines of Altered States, but more affirming, also starring Aubrey Plaza.
The Playlist
@joelmw You might try di.fm. I currently like the Chillout Tropical Vocal channel a lot.
@mike808 I was all “thanks, but I don’t need another streaming service” but decided (hey, because it’s @mike808 ) to check it out. That’s actually pretty damn cool and I’ll be using it to look for fresh tracks. Thanks
I also like several of the channels at soma fm and use it similarly. Several of the channels are rock focused and they have the most awesome holiday stream (Xmas in Frisco; looks like that and their other holiday channels aren’t currently up). but a good proportion of ambient, groove, chill.
POPSOCKETS! SPROCKETS! DAVY CROCKETT! AWESOME!
Also, whatever’s in the Matrix trilogy (especially since I’ve seen all three a few times already), in anticipation of the upcoming.
@joelmw so many good songs!
/youtube clubbed to death
It’s been a D day.
Decemberists
Depeche Mode
Dead Kennedy’s
and
Dinosaur Jr.
@sillyheathen
Dire Straits?
@mike808 That’s another great D! Love me some sultans of swing!
@sillyheathen
Glad it was an enjoyable D.
@sillyheathen
If you want some more D, I got plenty.
Daft Punk
Deadmau5
De la Soul
Devo
Doors
Do you count Darlene Love or David Bowie (first name) or Celine Dion (last name)?
@sillyheathen Okay, this should probably be in @werehatrack’s truth-or-fiction thread, but I’m told that I spent time playing in a sandbox with Jello Biafra when we were the right age for that.
@Kyeh @werehatrack I had to reread that statement about four times. Id say I’m jealous but if you don’t remember it’s kind of a bummer. I’ve had some pretty cool run ins with a few celebrities but most in my earlier life.
@mike808 I also forgot to add Doves. They’re an English band from Manchester and are ace! Last Broadcast is a fantastic album!
@mike808 also I lied Lost Souls was the album that I was referring to though last broadcast is also amazeballs.
Ever since Google Play was shut down, I’ve been editing my music collection and loading it on my HTPC which is a DVR, media streamer and this is how my music collection looks. Each album cover is about the same size as a CD on my 70" TV. This is Windows Media Center available on most Windows 7 PCs. Been listening to Alan Parsons, Led Zeppelin, and Dire Straights. On the streaming side, I like to listen to SOMA FM Groove Salad.
@Kyser_Soze You might try moving to Plex and enabling you to upgrade to the current Windows or Linux.
@mike808 I’m an old guy with cable TV & Windows 7 allows me to use this as a cable TV DVR because it has the built in copy protection. Nothing else has that , AFAIK. It’s behind a firewall and is only used as a Media PC. It and another have been saving me $15 each per month since 2012. I know I said I use it for streaming, but I actually use my laptop, Win 10, and a Google audio dongle plugged into my amp. Got to keep cable to keep the wife happy! Got to keep these boxes to keep me happy! This is the box, it’s a blue ray player and DVD burner also:
@Kyser_Soze
You might want to move that entire Win7 instance into VM and get the best of both.
Super motivating for the morning, lol.
Last night I was overcome by the desire to listen to He’s Large from the Popeye soundtrack and the youtube algorithm lead me to a 9-minute demo of Harry Nilsson coaching Shelley Duvall for He Needs Me and now I’m broken-hearted that he’s dead and she’s troubled all over again.
Another one making it into my playlist.
Mary Kate Kestner - God save the prom queen
Been feeling my roots lately and love this song for the story it tells about WWII. LC does this so well…
@chienfou LOVE Leonard Cohen!
@Kyeh
@chienfou @Kyeh me three!
@chienfou @Kyeh @sillyheathen me four
“Chaise Longue” by Wet Leg
Fun, tongue-in-cheek post-punk romp by 2 gals from the Isle of Wight. Video was filmed at one of their childhood homes… I want to go to there! (Hey @mike808, they got the big D!)
Mostly listen to audiobooks etc, so am really out of it re music.
A friend told me about the a cappella group Pentatonix a few months ago. I listened and thought “very nice, really good voices and arrangements” and thought no more about them for that moment.
Then ran into their songs again a few times. And suddenly became obsessed w them, with hearing all the exquisite layerings. Now play them a bunch.
(They aren’t “ordinary” a capella, whatever that might be.)
Here are some obvious places to start with them for a first listen. (Their best stuff has hundreds of millions of plays)
Cover of Hallelujah
Cover of Sounds of Silence
Pentatonix doing Daft Punk stuff
They also supposedly do amazing Christmas music, if you’re in the mood for that in a few months. I haven’t heard any of that yet.
@f00l They DO have amazing Christmas music! I like them a lot.
@Kyeh
For anyone new to them: if you really want to hear what they are doing, use speakers or headphones that provide lots of sonic detail at all of the vocal frequencies when playing them.
Listening to Jazz Fest in Place on WWOZ.org.
@riotdemon help a sister out! I’m starting my monsterfication, finishing a birthday present and remodeling my studio at the same time. I need some tunes and I can’t decide on anything!
@sillyheathen I’ve been summoned!!
