You walked in the store with the intention to buy just “a couple things.” That is when you were enticed by the sugary seductiveness of the cereal aisle…
I don’t eat cereal like normal people. I will eat Honey Nut Chex as a snack similar to how people eat potato chips. Never eat cereal out of a bowl. My pet bird also likes them.
Neither of us like the rice or corn chex so I just get the honey nut variety.
@Targaryen Haven’t made my own Chex mix. Don’t see the point. I have a “snack basket” on the coffee table in the livingroom and can eat the Honey Nut Chex, the M&M’s, the peanuts, Raisins, or anything else in the basket. No sense in pre mixing them ahead of time because I might crave one item without any of the others.
@cengland0@sammydog01@Targaryen You make your own Chex mix so it is all wheat. Otherwise you have to pick out the good ones. Great. Now I want some. Bad goat.
@DrWorm FINALLY! I had to scroll way too far down to find my favorite. Quisp, Scooby-Doo, and “those meddling kids!” were a perfect start to my Saturday morning.
Apple Jacks. I don’t usually buy cereal but that would be the sugary one I would grab first. I do like granola in yogurt and wheat Chex mix every once in awhile.
I rotate between Blueberry Morning, Banana Nut Crunch, Cranberry Almond Crunch, and Summer Berry granola.
I eat a lot of oatmeal for breakfast these days, but it’s not my favorite.
When I was a kid my best friend (who I thought was rich) introduced me to it. He called it cat food. My parents would never get it for me.
I still buy it to this day just because I can.
I also really took a shine to peanut butter chocolate blasted shredded wheat (the mini variety, not the raft-sized shredded wheat), but about a month after I discovered it, I saw it in the Dollar Tree and then saw a cart full of it for 50¢ a box in the entrance to my grocery store. I didn’t buy any there because I had 2 boxes I got at DT already. So I guess I was the only one that liked it, and I won’t be able to get it any more.
Grape nuts also hold a special place in my heart because that’s what I would eat with my grandfather when I stayed at their house. So I always thought that was a very manly cereal to eat, with absolutely none of the bullshit that attracts kids.
Are a lot of people’s cereal preferences tied to childhood?
Teenage Mutant Ninja cereal was the best. It was basically Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themed Lucky Charms. The cool parts about the cereal are when they gave out cereal bowls attached to the front of the box, and the collectible trading cards on the back of the box!
@callow Agree. It works out perfect that the only time it is available (at least in my area) is for a few weeks before Halloween. Once a year is really all I want it, yet it still seems like a treat when I do eat it.
Sidenote: the giphy algorithm is both eerily impressive yet totally wrong.
Not my favorite or anything. In fact, I’ve never had it. However, this seems like a good time to give a shout out to the uncool kid who’s always the last to be “picked”. The one who never gets invited to the parties. Whose lucky day involves making it back home without spending any time in his locker and with his pants still on. It’s time to invite this guy to come over and hang out (but just for a bit):
… Puffed rice is my favorite but very difficult to find so my go-to cereal is Crispix… I like the rice/corn blend. Old school I will take Wheaties or Kellogg corn flakes (no other brand that). Sweetened, sugar frosted flakes. Hot, Old Fashioned Oats… But I’ll waive all of them for two fried/one scrambled egg with mini linked sausage, hash browns w/gravy, toast and jam with coffee… with side order biscuit with sausage gravy…
I guess I stopped eating the sugary stuff after high school. Somewhere along the line I ran across these, and after many many years of not eating breakfast at all I’m eating a bowl of these every day now. Anything sweeter would be too much.
But then I usually eat some kind of pastry (or cake!) after my cereal, so it’s not like I have an aversion to sugar in the morning.
Soup.
@narfcake https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/kwny5n/is-cereal-soup
@narfcake @Targaryen - Cereal is salad. Definitively. ('Cause soup is wet salad)
And hot dogs are tacos.
I don’t eat cereal like normal people. I will eat Honey Nut Chex as a snack similar to how people eat potato chips. Never eat cereal out of a bowl. My pet bird also likes them.
Neither of us like the rice or corn chex so I just get the honey nut variety.
@cengland0 Ever tried making your own Chex mix?
@cengland0 @Targaryen I like home made Chex mix because you can leave out those stupid wheat Chex. They’re worse than crunchberries.
@Targaryen Haven’t made my own Chex mix. Don’t see the point. @speediedelivery huh? What? Im celiac so I read ingredients all the time and Honey Nut, Corn, and Rice Chex are wheat, gluten, and oat free.
@cengland0 I would be healthier if I ate better. I know what I should do but I usually don’t.
Steel cut oatmeal.
Grape Nuts, original, with raisins & milk.
Life
Usually whatever is buy one get one free.
I could kill a box of sugar smacks.
I try not to buy too much cereal because it becomes a lazy meal. Then I’m hungry an hour later versus if I actually cooked something.
@RiotDemon me too, I love them all and could eat a box in no time
No Cinnamon Toast Crunch yet?
@Ignorant Churros
Lucky charms is my favorite. Cap’n Crunch is a close second as long as it doesn’t have those stupid crunchberries in it. I hate crunchberries.
@sammydog01
@Targaryen
a mix of 1/2 and 1/2 cheerios and honey nut cheerios
/image Fruity Pebbles
If they bottled that smell for perfume, I would totally buy.
@tnhillbillygal Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles are my favorites. Just not together.
@tnhillbillygal Fruity pebbles are great but you have to consume them within 30 seconds before they become a mushy sludge
We used to eat the fruit mini-wheat cereal as dry snacks. But my favorite is Kelloggs Raisin Bran with milk that is very cold.
@duodec I think Post Raisin Bran has more raisins. Do NOT like the Raisin Bran Crunchy.
Shredded Wheat, the old style that’s the size of a raft.
Quisp
@DrWorm FINALLY! I had to scroll way too far down to find my favorite. Quisp, Scooby-Doo, and “those meddling kids!” were a perfect start to my Saturday morning.
Wheat Chex
@zinimusprime
@sammydog01 it’s sooooooooooooooooooooo good!
Lucky Charms or Kix
Take Cap’n Crunch with Crunchberries, add mini marshmallows and this is what you get. Though I do like strawberry mini-wheats quite a bit.
Apple Jacks. I don’t usually buy cereal but that would be the sugary one I would grab first. I do like granola in yogurt and wheat Chex mix every once in awhile.
Frosted Flakes for fun. Blueberry Morning for Nourishment.
I guess this is a Special K knock off. Essentially. But I love it.
I rotate between Blueberry Morning, Banana Nut Crunch, Cranberry Almond Crunch, and Summer Berry granola.
I eat a lot of oatmeal for breakfast these days, but it’s not my favorite.
Motherfucking cracklin’ oat bran!

Haven’t had cereal in years, since I gave up carbs for breakfast. But when I did eat cereal I liked Koala Crisp. Basically organic Cocoa Puffs.
Fruity Pebbles.
Pebbles was hot.
/image maltomeal
@medz Is it better than Cream of Wheat? I never had any other kind and I love mixing it with apple sauce (and gerber prunes when I was younger).
@JT954 way better. Chocolate is ok
/image chocolate maltomeal
/image Captain crunch cereal
@eonfifty He looks like he’s been using too much of his own product.
Farina cooked in milk
Cocoa f’ing pebbles with just a dash of peppermint extract. Tastes just like thin mints!
@buckyballb Hmmm… You may have just passed my curiosity threshold.
The best cereal is Popeye sweet crunch cereal. I just found out on the internet, that this is still a thing.
*MAYPO
[1]:
@Zebra we loved the commercials and would run around shouting that slogan, but the cereal was pretty yucky …
Cream of Wheat is my favorite hot cereal.
Cold cereal always changes. I’ll nominate Corn Pops and Honey Nut Cheerios since they also taste good as a snack without milk.
If it has actual nuts or fruit in it, chances are I won’t like it.
Flakes cereals are generally good. Wheaties and various Publix brands are my personal favorites.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch = KING of Cereals
@mikeharber I thought this guy was King of Cereals
Teenage Mutant Ninja cereal was the best. It was basically Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themed Lucky Charms. The cool parts about the cereal are when they gave out cereal bowls attached to the front of the box, and the collectible trading cards on the back of the box!
@iancorporated I had one of those! Wasn’t sure where it came from.
Whichever one has the best toy in the box.
Count Chocula. One box a year. With milk. For dessert.
/giphy Count Chocula

And…let’s not forget Batman cereal. Your eyes are not tricking you, you got a free Batman bank! My brother had one.
I guess I stopped eating the sugary stuff after high school. Somewhere along the line I ran across these, and after many many years of not eating breakfast at all I’m eating a bowl of these every day now. Anything sweeter would be too much.

Rarely have cereal but if I do it’s plain old regular cheerios. No sugar. Van almond milk.
