@macromeh I’m in the high desert. I get cold at 74° when the system is running, sometimes I put on socks. In the winter I wear pants and a sweatshirt.
I try to be mindful of the electric bill.
When I replaced my old HVAC system I got a heat pump.
I was pretending to sleep on the couch so that the kids would leave me alone and my 10-year-old loudly commanded his little sister to crank the AC way up, causing my eyes to reflexively snap open and ruining my ruse.
Well what I set it to and what I get are two different things. The thermostat is off by about 4-6ish degrees (eg set at 64 and you get about 69 or 70. I had to google how to factory reset the landlord imposed locks on temp setting (they set the min as 72 in the summer and theh max as 68 in the winter - winter wasn’t bad due to how off the thermostat was but the summer was unbearable) so that I could get it (in the summer) below 78 in the living room and 82 in the bedroom (we only have AC/Heat in one room and it is that cheap motel style thing).
I do like it cooler at night (preferably about 66 but I can’t get it that low in the summer due to the thermostat issue that the landlord refuses to fix saying it can’t be fixed. Oh yes it can. Just replace the control panel. The problems began when they swapped out my old control panel that had none of those issues (when it broke) to an old one taken out of another a/c that had those issues. Of course this is HUD and they’d prefer we be dead, utilities off, and still pay the rent.
75 in the summer until the late afternoon when everyone is using their a/c and we dial it back to 78 to prevent blackouts. We turn it off overnight and open all the windows and let the ambient temps cool everything off.
Right between 75 and 76, but the rear of the house is poorly insulated and the “central” unit is located at the opposite end of the house (stupit??) so I make use of a vintage ‘window shaker’ in my bedroom, to keep it cool. Works great.
@kittykat9180 I like it better than air conditioning because it’s more like natural air to me. Air conditioners give a kind of flat effect that feels good for a while but then going outside is such a drastic contrast.
It’s not so effective if we’ve gotten rain though.
Temp settings tend to fluctuate depending on who’s home. If it’s just me at home 78; if the smart one is here too 74. Mini split in the bedroom keeps it at 65. (have to sleep cool)
76 most of the time. Although when I’m working, the office seems to be the coldest part of the house and as long as the outside temp is under 100, I’ve been okay with just the ceiling fan on.
No air till 4 in the afternoon just fans (unless it’s just sweltering then I turn it on) then at 4 it goes to 72, at 9pm it goes to 68 till like 4 in the morning. I can’t remember what it’s programmed at in the winter, I think 70 at day and 67 at night, maybe 65.
Same as the rest of the year. It just runs more in the Summer.
@yakkoTDI
Yes that’s what I do, 64° year round!
Just shy of reaching the threshold of financial ruin.

The AC temps change throughout the day, from high but decent during the day to cold as a fridge at night. Yes, my wife is in charge.
74° in the summer
68° in the winter
@kittykat9180 Same.
Climate is generally pretty mild here in the PNW. This is the first house I’ve lived in that even has AC (geothermal heat pump).

66-68° is ideal, in New England. Very humid and I sleep better in cooler weather.

PS I live in the armpit of the nation in the deep south.

I have a swamp cooler so I just run it until the temperature’s no longer unbearable.
@Kyeh I had one of this growing up. As an adult I refuse.
@kittykat9180 @Kyeh West Central Florida here. You cannot cool this swamp without A/C.
@Kyeh @yakkoTDI how are you in the west part of Florida and the center of Florida at the same time?
@kittykat9180 @Kyeh Central Florida is the Orlando area and is stalked by @PooltoyWolf.
The Tampa Bay Area is West Central Florida. The place where hurricane Milton rubbed his butt all over everything last year.

@kittykat9180 @Kyeh @yakkoTDI That last bit gave me a chuckle, thanks!
House temp set to meat locker most of the summer
