What do you miss the most from you normal routine?
12I miss my commute to work. I live about 20-30 minutes away from the office and I would spend this time listening to audiobooks. If I was stuck in traffic, no problem, as it was more time with my book.
No commute, no audiobook.
And before anyone says anything, yes I know I am whining and yes I would like some cheese with my whine.

Seeing my elderly mom. This is hard.
@pitamuffin Very hard. My wife’s in Alzheimer’s care. I had been visiting her for 80-90 minutes three times a week. But now, I last saw her March 10. Found out that they now are set up for video calls. I’ll see tomorrow if I can schedule one. She still likes to hold hands, but I guess that’s out for now, maybe for a long time, maybe forever. I’m sure she doesn’t understand all this.
@phendrick I’m so sorry you both are going through this. I hope you can do the video call, as I’m sure just seeing her any way possible will help you to feel a bit better. Stay strong.
my downtime. my whole office went virtual, and somehow productivity went UP. what the ever loving fuck?? how am i supposed to get caught up on netflix with all these people finishing things for me to test?
@carl669 yep, I am afraid that secret (productivity actually improves with WFH) is no longer being kept well… Hope your kid’s doing well!
@chienfou i knew productivity typically goes up with WFH, but with everyone’s kids at home, i thought it might go down. i was not ready for the sudden rush of new stuff to test. but, at least we’re doing office virtual happy hours. quarantinis for all!

What are “office happy hours”? I heard we are going to have something like that tomorrow and I have no idea what to expect.

We used to have a beer fridge and alchohol freezer stocked by the company at my work. It was great to be able to kick back with a drink whenever you wanted. We got acquired by a large corporation and that went away. I am still a bit upset about it even after years of it being gone, and I don’t (and haven’t ever) drink alchohol!
@carl669 Two weeks of working at home in and I’m finding that I can half-ass it through the morning hours, then get serious after lunch and crank out slightly more for the day than my usual full day at the office. Assuming it keeps going like this, I think I will continue after the quarantine has lifted. I certainly don’t miss the commute.

I haven’t had a “normal routine” for a long time. Each day/week/month/year is a total crap shoot. And that’s how I like it. (That’s also why I have such trouble wrapping my head around issues that an hour time change plus or minus for DST make for people. My God… I haven’t gone to bed at the same time two nights running in over 50 years.)

@Limewater Nope, for 2 reasons. First off we homeschooled so that made a difference (no “artificial” schedule to keep), and secondly, they went to bed at ‘dark’ when they were very young. We learned early that they slept until light pretty much no matter what time we put them to bed…

I miss the feeling of going to the store getting what I need and coming home.
Now, it’s feeling like before I even leave the house, I have to be dressed in a mad Max suit of armor. Am I wearing hand protectors, a face shield, closed toe shoes, not exposing any skin. Is my truck well stocked with water, snacks, hand sanitizer, bandanas for face and to use on gas pump, shopping cart, pick a piece of produce( a different bandana for each task), plenty of gas. And encountering a line evrery time I go somewhere.
And I’ve only been to the grocery store 2x since this all started, and still going in to work in city water department, yet…since this all started, there’s just a feeling of dread leaving the house like what HELL awaits me now?
I miss going to the movies. Instead I’m watching whatever piece of crap horror movie Amazon recommends on a small screen. With a bunch of people that will not go away.
Orders. I miss orders coming in.
Going to a nice restaurant.
Watching the morning news for a quick recap of the news, but having to watch Corona tips, Corona death count, Corona maps, Corona doom and 5 minutes of weather/news.
Not having to count and track toilet paper usage.
I’m a 50 year old female who lives in the country in Michigan.
I miss doing lunch with my girlfriends, hanging out with my family, but truthfully, I miss going to the Moose Club and having a few drinks with a group of 70 year old men. I call them My Fellas. They’ve kind of become my support group, and I miss chatting with them.
@punkynpye I guarantee they miss you too. Positive affirmation of one’s existence is emotionally healthy.
Sitting in the coffee shop, with a fresh cuppa hand pour and reading and people watching.
Or even a restaurant in general. I love breakfast especially out, and delivery or take out doesn’t cut it
The comparatively lower stress.
My wife and I both work pretty demanding jobs and have younger children. Now school and daycare are both closed, so we are taking turns going in to work and then we’re both working at night after the kids are asleep.
Many of our co-workers don’t seem to realize that we can’t just “work from home,” so whichever of us stays home to take care of the kids on a particular day still gets blasted with work calls and e-mails about things that need to be done before the next day. It sucks.
I miss the morning bull sessions at the coffee maker with the two other guys who also usually came in an hour before the rest of the office. We still have email and slack, but it isn’t the same spontaneous exchange.
I miss taking Lady, on Tuesdays, to the nursing home where my mom stayed for two years. And Lady is missing going there, too.
Going out to breakfast on my day off. Sitting there reading while my coffee cup gets periodically refilled. Dithering around town running errands, also on day off.
Being able to whistle at people’s faces

Working.
(Yup, I actually enjoy what I do, and miss doing it.)
Traveling to work, the routine of it. Maybe along the way I stop for a bag of chips, a breakfast sandwich, coffee or I don’t. Listening to the morning news or sports.
Bellying up to a bar
I miss buying and eating old Christmas boxes of Edible Arrangements goodies.
I can only assume that the coronavirus is to blame for their absence this year.
