@shahnm As I stated below, I just take advantage of all the free food opportunities. If I were smart, I would have just spaced out my birthday for the companies that don’t check so I’d get free food throughout the entire year, but alas, I’m not THAT smart.
@shahnm I sometimes wonder if birthdays would feel more positive if life wasn’t marked so much by failure and stagnation. You know, more of a “That was a good year,” and less of a “Give it back! I wasn’t done with it yet!”
@shahnm You said it…CAKE! I work as many cake experiences I can into that one day. Otherwise, birthday celebrations are for Mom. She did all the work and wisely chose not to abort me…Thanks, Mom.
Last time I worked on my birthday was for a mandatory training. I didn’t tell anyone. One guy even asked me how old I was for non-birthday related reasons, and I didn’t bring it up. Just said 27 and moved on. Then, 5 minutes before the day is done, my mom bursts in with cupcakes. At least I got cupcakes.
I take international trips on my birthday. Except this year because of the death virus. I’ll probably do a road trip but I definitely will not be working.
@kittykat9180 for my mom’s 30th,she won a trip for two to the X Games, and took 10yo me. For my 30th, I took her to Scotland. Probably my two favorite trips of my life so far.
I’m not really the celebratory birthday type, so I used to always work, though my birthday’s July 3rd, so I’d say half the time I end up having the day off in observance of the 4th.
For the last three years though I decided to treat myself instead. I did some googling and found out all the companies that gave out free food on/around your birthday. Turns out it’s quite the list, and mine is hardly all-inclusive!
This year’s been a bit weird, and I’ve opted to not go to my usual Denny’s/IHOP, since you can’t order your freebie to go. But beyond that, I’ve got:
@mwhite1 July 4th is mine. I haven’t worked on my birthday since high school when I ran a fireworks stand. And I’ve never had to take a vacation day to have it off. Highly recommended!
At my age, it seems silly to make a fuss about birthdays. I’ve had jobs where birthdays were an optional paid day off, and even then, I usually worked. For one thing, if I took the day off, I’d miss out on birthday donuts.
If I haven’t taken that day off already (my birthday is close to, if not on, Thanksgiving), I just go to work. Sometimes I take all of TG week, so I usually have my B-day off as a matter of course.
“Oh No, Carl’s Drunk And Creating Sales Events Again”
I AM NOT DRUNK! well… maybe. but i’m definitely not creating sales events.
@carl669
Well then fuck off, fucker.
It’s like any other day.
@jsh139 as long as no one knows, yes.
Well today is my birthday and I’m at work so…
@a5meiser Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday!
@a5meiser Work the cake angle… I always get cupcakes from the awesome ladies at work… They are great cause you don’t have to share.
POPSOCKETS! SPA KITS! POLLY POCKETS! AWESOME!
I am still not entirely clear why people older than 13 celebrate birthdays…
Woohoo - the inexorable passing of time, bringing me measurably closer to the inescapable eternity of death!!! Bring on the fucking cake…
@shahnm because while you may be closer to death, you’re not there yet; you’ve made it another year and that’s worth celebrating.

Certainly not a fan of “celebrating” though
@shahnm For exactly that reason… we’re one year closer to death.
@shahnm I sometimes wonder if birthdays would feel more positive if life wasn’t marked so much by failure and stagnation. You know, more of a “That was a good year,” and less of a “Give it back! I wasn’t done with it yet!”

Deal with it.
@rtjhnstn unlike meh

Usually just go to work like normal… This year, I don’t know if I’ll be back at work yet next month. (been laid off since March)
@ciabelle

Mission BBQ, Panera, Red Robin, 7/11, Sonic, Baja Fresh, Chick Fil A, Dunkin, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Smash Burger, Noodles & Company, Starbucks, Jamba Juice.
Most will give you a few days to redeem, and this yeah some are giving months.
Birthdays? What are birthdays?
I don’t celebrate my birthday so hard that I need to check my ID just to remember how old I am.
Having New Years day for a birthday. Does have its benefits. Never work on it and there is always a party.
@mwhite1 July 4th is mine. I haven’t worked on my birthday since high school when I ran a fireworks stand. And I’ve never had to take a vacation day to have it off. Highly recommended!
My birthday is Xmas. Hardly anyone works on my birthday. I consider it my gift to everyone… celebrate my birthday by taking the day off!
@nuclear_nick Thank you!
I work, but from home. Then get ready for the evening festivities!!
I have done all of those things at least once.
Please don’t remind me! My bday is so close to a major holiday, I am usually not working, and am always reminded.
I don’t have a birthday.
@OnionSoup I don’t have a job
It doesn’t. I work at a school, & my birthday takes place during summer vacation.
My birthday is Xmas eve, so I ususally have the day off anyway.
Vacation or bring a treat for the office
