@werehatrack Why would I count them? I know each and every battery personally, as they gently slumber in my trusty fridge… Really, what decent human doesn’t??
@shahnm
I have always told people that if I get horizontal for very long I will inevitably fall asleep. Pisses off my wife sometimes when I can lay down and go to sleep before she finishes brushing her teeth…
Okay, this is how nerdy I am - I have this word game: I find a phrase with a reasonable variety of letters in it, like “herbal supplements.” Then I mentally try to find every possible word I can be spell using any those letters, like “hall,” “hell,” “bale,” “label,” etc. It occupies my brain enough to crowd out real thoughts but it’s too boring to keep me awake the way a book might.
Toss and turn for a bit to confirm that sleep is not going to happen, then either read or watch something or do some paperwork or maybe even something for work.
Read a book.
Drink whisky
Get up and watch tv.
That report needs to be finishe… ZZZZ
Stay awake.
@shahnm You don’t count batteries?

@shahnm @werehatrack You should always count your ̶b̶l̶e̶s̶s̶i̶n̶g̶s̶ batteries.
@macromeh @werehatrack If we’re being honest with ourselves, are our batteries not truly our blessings?
@macromeh @shahnm @werehatrack The real treasure was the batteries we found along the way.
@blaineg @macromeh @werehatrack Except for the ones that weren’t refrigerated. They’re dead to me.
Plot.
@togle I love this.
get horizontal and close my eyes…
@chienfou Horizontal. Right. I knew I was doing something wrong…

Get up and walk around.
Put in my earpods and listen to music to block out my thoughts
If I’m not asleep within 5 seconds of putting my head on the pillow, I wait another 3 or 4 seconds and that usually does the trick.
