What do we call the time before corona?
7I feel like this virus is going to change things. They may not be big and profound changes, but they will be changes.
This means that we will need to have a name for the time before. We have these separations for BC and AD. We also can just say “The war” and based on the year we all would have a good idea which one it most likely was.
What about this? Is the time before going to be BC (Before Corona <or Covid if you will>) or BV (Before Virus)?
What do you think?

I honestly thought this was gonna be a joke and the answer would be “Miller Time”
Sorry, too many lame jokes
@Cerridwyn
Don’t apologize. Make the jokes.
@jst1ofknd
Grin - I could be… picky
Corona is a beer, a city and a car (once)
Covid-19 is a disease
Coronavirus is a group of viruses of which SARS-CoV-2 (the actual virus that is causing the pandemic) is a member
@Cerridwyn @jst1ofknd Right. I remember the times before we were all KungFlu fighting…
@Cerridwyn
Pre-coronation
(Might throw the Brits off though.)
I don’t know what to call it, but for some reason I keep searching for more info on the whereabouts of the Umbrella Corporation, Racoon City and Alice.
KuoH
@kuoh a series of movies I thought for sure would be pop up on one of the “nothing but action/sf/fantasy” movie channels (SYFY, TBS, FX, etc.) but so far no one has bit …
@stolicat Guess they don’t want to risk getting shut down for encouraging mass panic?
KuoH
Same as now.
BITGOD (back in the good old days)
Anteviral.
/giphy ante-viral
@eonfifty
Nice. I like this. I wish I could do more than one star. Especially when a Google search confirmed that ante means before.
@eonfifty
And most people will hear “antiviral”.
@eonfifty
Or The Anti-Vaxx Demo
@eonfifty @mike808
Wonderful! I love this too!
@jst1ofknd
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@eonfifty @jst1ofknd
or Auntie viral
My imagination tells me we’ll use the term “post-containment” for the after times, so I guess “pre-containment” for the before times?
Sobriety??
@IWUJackson or 4:59pm
@jst1ofknd
Hey buddy, this too shall pass. Remember the days before the Murrah bombing? Did we need a special term for that?
@therealjrn
You mean like post-Katrina or post-9/11?
@mike808 More like pre-JFK assassination. He was asking about the times before. But yeah, like that.
@therealjrn
We don’t have a term for that, but the bombing was mostly a local event (at most regional) in scope and (to the best of my knowledge didn’t cause any behavioural changes in society). This event is international in scope and I think the changes will affect us all to varying degrees.
@jst1ofknd @therealjrn Oh, that was WAY more than a local event. It was indeed a change in how we thought of terrorism. Both the place and face of terrorism, in a literal way, changed for America. I’d say there has been a fundamental shift in our thinking since then.
@therealjrn @ybmuG
I was young(er) when it happened.
Well, yes I know. We were all younger back then. I was a high school senior and lived far enough away that it didn’t effect me directly.
I concede the point. I can’t say what changed as I was not directly effected by the changes.
@jst1ofknd @therealjrn @ybmuG
Naw, as a NY’er, as horrible as it was, it didn’t really make any huge impact on our lives or the way we viewed terrorism or terrorists- they were a bunch of poncy wankers both ever before, and ever since.
Personally, the Iran hostage crisis, whereupon our embassies went from being thought of as sacrosanct fortresses of our sovereignty to vulnerable figments of our imagination was more impactful, and I’ve never yet been in one.
But that’s IMHO.
@jst1ofknd @PhysAssist @ybmuG Probably the Beirut bombing was bigger for me.
@jst1ofknd @PhysAssist @therealjrn not saying Oklahoma was bigger than others before or since, but the big change was that it wasn’t some foreign agent, but “one of our own”. Or to be blunt, it wasn’t a radicalized Muslim from some far off land, but rather a white kid from around the corner.
@jst1ofknd @therealjrn @ybmuG
Agree, or the USS Cole maybe.
@jst1ofknd @therealjrn @ybmuG While I get you, I think it didn’t affect us here as much as folks nearerby.
Smitty
@cranky1950
I don’t understand the reference. Please expound.
@jst1ofknd You want a name I gave one. Beside we’ve evolved beyond reference id’s to index id’s the knowledge base doesen’t care.
@cranky1950
I second the motion to call the before times “Smitty”. All in favor, say Aye!
@cranky1950 @jst1ofknd
Time Traveler: Which one?
@mike808
Can you post that meme for the wife? I don’t want to explain it and it’s past time for me to go to sleep.
@mike808
I googled the meme and showed her this morning. She didn’t find it funny. Can’t account for some people’s sense of humor.
I guess we could look back to what happened after the 1918 flu pandemic… or the black plague… for some guidance…
Before Virus Apocalypse. BVA, AVA
Before Pandemic BP, Post Pandemic PP
@OldCatLady I just finished up droppin’ a big BVA in my bathroom. Ooowee it a YUGE
BC 2.0
BV seems good. And, there will be major changes forever.
Years ago - we would sample Corona Beer- some people would Claim they had ’ Brown Bottle Flu ’ = hangover
@newby1 Oh yes. The Brown Bottle Flu has been around a long time.
We’re still looking for the cure.
@newby1 @therealjrn Currently, preventative measures are the only effective ones.
@macromeh @newby1 I know that’s right. Gotta put the plug in the jug.
@macromeh @newby1 @therealjrn pretty ironic that Corona largely comes in a clear bottle
Hmm was is a time before the sun had a corona?
