Since I got my IRK late on Wednesday night was able to go to Costco as planned early when it opened on Thursday. So with my Costco rebate check in hand decided to splurge since we were staying in (big surprise) anyway.
@mehcuda67 most definitely not. So many couples fight about kitchen choices. It’s a big decision and you’ll be looking at that kitchen for 15+ years if you don’t sell. It’s amazing that some couples can live together forever and be on such wild ends of the spectrum when it comes to color and style choices.
My least favorite part is when they want my opinion. I’m not going to be living there.
Cooking dinner for my boyfriend. No idea what yet. We used to eat Chinese food every Valentine’s Day but then over favorite place closed (years ago) and we can’t find a place we really like. Maybe we’ll try another Chinese place.
@tinamarie1974 Sure-we always give Walter a taste of what we are eating. He had several pieces of king crab leg from our Super Bowl Dinner. With two pounds of lobster, I am sure there will enough for him.
@tinamarie1974 Just because he is a bird doesn’t mean he doesn’t enjoy good food. He is starting to be picky. When we have lamp chop ribs I leave some meat on the rib for him to pick at and he throws he chicken leg out of the bowl uneaten and only eats the lamp chops. So now when we have lamb, I don’t even give him chicken anymore just 4 lamp chop ribs with some meat left on them.
@Felton10@Kyeh@tinamarie1974
Aren’t they vegetarian? Did the carrion-eating become part of the species’ behavior in the wild? Or is it a domesticated behavior imposed by their human captors for our convenience?
@Kyeh@mike808@tinamarie1974 It’s alot easier to dump of bunch of seed in his bowl and be done with it. But every article I’ve read of feeding birds says the the more variety of food they get the better it is for their health. You can tell if they are getting the proper nutrients by how their feathers look and if they pick their feathers.
Considering over 50% of African Grey’s are feather pickers either due to being bored or a bad diet, Walter does not fall into that group.
@Felton10 I wonder where they (Walter’s species) would get their protein were there not humans around to provide chickens for them? Are they predators that raid other birds nests for eggs? Do they have a bunch and eat some of their own, in a weird not-very-efficient recycling way?
@mike808 “In the wild, African Greys eat fruits, leaves, insects, bark and flowers. In captivity, they should eat a varied diet of fruits, vegetables supplemented with some seeds and nuts. Rice, cooked beans, corn, tortillas, pasta, potatoes, bread and cooked chicken are healthy foods for Greys.”
Walter has and likes cantaloupe (in fact he gets his liquid from a nice juicy piece) green beans and bananas each day.
@Felton10@RiotDemon Derp. I forgot that. However, non-predator (eagles, hawks, owls) and carrion (buzzards) birds don’t naturally eat other mammals for the most part. Hence it was puzzling that a domesticated Grey would eat chicken or other mammalian meats.
@mike808@RiotDemon Its all what you start feeding them and what they get used to. Got Walter when he was 10 weeks old when I was still feeding him pablum with a syringe. Did that for a month-had to come home from work to feed him around noon.
@Kidsandliz@tinamarie1974 Lately he is getting very clingy. Doesn’t like to be alone-wants to be near us or near where we are and if left alone if either climbs down or flying down to the floor to look for us.
@Kidsandliz@tinamarie1974 Not really-for the past 8 years been working out of my house and his cage has always been in my office. The layout of the house we moved into a year ago-his cage is more isolated from the great room so he spends more time on the perch in there and doesn’t want to get off of it. Never know how little things like that would effect him although I think as long as we are around changes like that don’t really bother him all that much.
@blaineg I hadn’t thought of it either, but I just checked the work holiday calendar and we don’t have Monday off this year. We have a fixed number of holidays a year and, depending where certain holidays fall in the week (Independence Day, Christmas, etc.), some years we will get an adjacent Friday or Monday off with one of them instead of President’s Day. However, the chief is an ex-pat Brit, so we always have Easter Monday off to break up the long stretch between New Years Day and Memorial Day.
Probably online church as tomorrow’s high is -4° (not counting windchill); we have a windchill warning from 9pm tonight through noon on Monday.
Then hopefully work on/finish a couple of projects (cousin’s very belated wedding present and my parents’ anniversary present). I won’t be showing pictures of them finished because they are both personalized (names and/or addresses).
@ShotgunX I am sure if the things I was feeding him were not good for him, he wouldn’t have lasted so long and seem so healthy. Check back with me in another 20 years to see how he is doing. LOL
@Felton10@macromeh@ShotgunX I’m less interested in what he’s eating and more interested in why his cage is full of sex toys.
No wonder your wife is jealous.
@Limewater@macromeh@ShotgunX You caught me. What better way to smuggle sex toys into the house then ones that serve a dual purpose as a bird toy and a sex toy. The long ones that have a rough surface can be very stimulating.
getting a Covid test…My Dad was just Diagnosed yesterday, and admitted into the Covid Ward.
Tested positive For Covid, “Spotty” pneumonia in both lungs, and borderline Sepsis. all Viral, so there are no wonder drugs to give him just keep him hydrated and comfortable, and let is body do the work.
they are giving him a couple rounds of Convalescent Plasma… so that should help…
@gfreek@tinamarie1974@Kidsandliz
we brought him home today, after i cleared 8 or so inches of snow off the driveway.
he responded well to all the treatments.
2 doses of Convalescent Plasma, Remdesivir, Dexamethasone.
then called in prescriptions for us to pick up:
Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc, Robitussin DM, and 2 more doses of the Dexamethasone.
also today, my test results came back Positive. YAY! I’ve Got the 'Rona!
Honestly the only surprise would have been if it came back negative.
but, I think i’m past the worst… I haven’t had a Fever for 2 days now, and the only remaining symptom i have is a Cough, largely from post-nasal Drip. which was also the First Symptom i got about a week ago. (3 days after getting my first dose of the Vaccine) Mom and Dad got their first Dose the day before I did, Clearly we had all already been exposed before then…
Now it’s Mom’s Turn to get tested Tomorrow morning.
Good thing it’s a drive through, and it’s forecast to be about 3F (-16C) at her appointment time!
@gfreek@Kidsandliz@tinamarie1974 only symptoms I’ve had until now, are normal Cold/Flu type… Coughing, Sneezing, Runny nose, Fever, Loss of Appetite, etc.
(Highest Temp I saw was 100.5, but now I’ve been Fever Free for 2 days so Far)
now I just (still) have the Cough…
Bacon wrapped chicken breast, roasted brussels sprouts, french onion mac & cheese, and 2 beers all just for me.
I’m also watching a valentines themed horror movie. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11510064/
@RiotDemon Not in the horror movie way, parts made me uncomfortable. Pilgrim was better, and by the ratings almost any other one of the into the dark movies are better.
I’ll be at work.
@RiotDemon Romantic!
@ELUNO super romantic! I can’t wait to see all the couples come in and look at stuff!
@ELUNO @RiotDemon Romantic stuff?
@ELUNO @Felton10 if a kitchen is considered romantic, sure!
@ELUNO @RiotDemon Well we do have a very big center island in the kitchen.
@RiotDemon Are you Cupid?

@RiotDemon Ow. That’s awkward.
Chocolate lobsters. Yum!
Cooking dinner for my boyfriend. No idea what yet. We used to eat Chinese food every Valentine’s Day but then over favorite place closed (years ago) and we can’t find a place we really like. Maybe we’ll try another Chinese place.
@Star2236 White Castle
@Star2236 If you cook Chinese, you can cook for your boyfriend AND have Chinese.
@mehcuda67
To hard, we eat to many different things.
Laying as low as possible…
Very nice, is there extra for everyone’s favorite bird??
@tinamarie1974 Sure-we always give Walter a taste of what we are eating. He had several pieces of king crab leg from our Super Bowl Dinner. With two pounds of lobster, I am sure there will enough for him.

We have created a monster.
@Felton10 well you have mentioned his fantastic meals in the past, so I was curious if he would get to enjoy lobster tail with you and the misses.
Sounds like he is just a properly spoiled member of the family
@Felton10 @tinamarie1974 Maybe it’s better that he not eat chicken - that seems almost cannibalistic.
@Kyeh @tinamarie1974 We already thought of that but since he also eats eggs for breakfast, that ship has already sailed long ago.
@Felton10 @Kyeh @tinamarie1974
Aren’t they vegetarian? Did the carrion-eating become part of the species’ behavior in the wild? Or is it a domesticated behavior imposed by their human captors for our convenience?

@Felton10 So “variety of food” means changing a genetically vegetarian animal’s diet to omnivorous is okay?
That’s like telling your wife that “variety in your sex life” means a three-way with her hot friend.
/youtube seinfeld the switch
@mike808 They do recommend giving chicken to your bird as a way of getting him the protein he needs and craves (eggs also).
At my age a threesome would mean me, my wife and Walter.
@Felton10 I wonder where they (Walter’s species) would get their protein were there not humans around to provide chickens for them? Are they predators that raid other birds nests for eggs? Do they have a bunch and eat some of their own, in a weird not-very-efficient recycling way?

Walter has and likes cantaloupe (in fact he gets his liquid from a nice juicy piece) green beans and bananas each day.
@Felton10 @mike808 I’ve never heard of a vegetarian bird. Most birds eat insects.
@Felton10 @RiotDemon Derp. I forgot that. However, non-predator (eagles, hawks, owls) and carrion (buzzards) birds don’t naturally eat other mammals for the most part. Hence it was puzzling that a domesticated Grey would eat chicken or other mammalian meats.

@Felton10 @mike808 @tinamarie1974
I just always think of that bird in the Monty comic.
@Felton10 @mike808 @tinamarie1974
@Felton10 @tinamarie1974
You have been well trained by him for sure.
@Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 Lately he is getting very clingy. Doesn’t like to be alone-wants to be near us or near where we are and if left alone if either climbs down or flying down to the floor to look for us.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz do you think that has to do with Covid and being home more? I know it is affecting dogs.
@Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 Not really-for the past 8 years been working out of my house and his cage has always been in my office. The layout of the house we moved into a year ago-his cage is more isolated from the great room so he spends more time on the perch in there and doesn’t want to get off of it. Never know how little things like that would effect him although I think as long as we are around changes like that don’t really bother him all that much.
@tinamarie1974 Gave Walter a nice chunk of Lobster meat, he took one bite and dropped it. Same thing happened last time I gave him a piece also.
Put it in his dish so when he goes for his late night snack he might eat it-could be he was filled from already eating his chicken. We will see.
Celebrating that I don’t have to go into work on Monday.
This one snuck up on me, if a co-worker hadn’t said “See you Tuesday” I would have got into work and wondered why the parking lot was empty. Again.
Work 12 hours, then use the remainder of the day to drink beer, jerk off, and play video games.
Getting our Bat Washington and Abin the boy wonder costumes ready for Monday …
Probably online church as tomorrow’s high is -4° (not counting windchill); we have a windchill warning from 9pm tonight through noon on Monday.
Then hopefully work on/finish a couple of projects (cousin’s very belated wedding present and my parents’ anniversary present). I won’t be showing pictures of them finished because they are both personalized (names and/or addresses).
Walter eating lamp chops tonight.
@Felton10 I am so confused. I thought those birds only eat fruits and seeds and such?
@ShotgunX Nope-this type of bird is fine with people food with some exceptions. Vet confirmed that.
@ShotgunX I am sure if the things I was feeding him were not good for him, he wouldn’t have lasted so long and seem so healthy. Check back with me in another 20 years to see how he is doing. LOL
@Felton10 @ShotgunX I don’t know parrots, but I can confirm that chickens will happily eat other chickens. Nasty feathered reptiles.
@macromeh @ShotgunX I’m not sure I needed to know that, but I am equally sure Walter doesn’t know what he is eating.
@Felton10 @macromeh @ShotgunX I’m less interested in what he’s eating and more interested in why his cage is full of sex toys.
No wonder your wife is jealous.
@Limewater @macromeh @ShotgunX You caught me. What better way to smuggle sex toys into the house then ones that serve a dual purpose as a bird toy and a sex toy. The long ones that have a rough surface can be very stimulating.

@earlyre
@earlyre Good luck to him and you (and the rest of your family). Hopefully he will respond to the plasma in the positive way so many others have.
@earlyre Wish him a speedy recovery and your family to be safe and healthy.

Drove 3 hours round trip to get first dose of Moderna vaccine. Back there in 4 weeks

Bacon wrapped chicken breast, roasted brussels sprouts, french onion mac & cheese, and 2 beers all just for me.
I’m also watching a valentines themed horror movie.

Would not recommend the movie. The 4.5/10 seems overly generous.
@metaphore was it scary?
@RiotDemon Not in the horror movie way, parts made me uncomfortable. Pilgrim was better, and by the ratings almost any other one of the into the dark movies are better.
