What are hoodies made from?
9I ask because I am an old person and when I was younger I thought that “hoodie” was short for “hooded sweatshirt” and that meant they are made out of sweatshirt material. Yesterday my meh hoodie from the mehrathon arrived, and it is made out of two tshirts sewn together. Mind you, they are long-sleeved tshirts, and there is a hood, so there is certainly the form of a hoodie. Oh, I dunno. I just found out they aren’t teaching the kids in driving school to put their hands on the ten and two o’clock positions, so what do I know?

From the specs:
Hoodie to me basically is anything thicker than a t-shirt and long sleeved with a hood.
Otherwise it’s a hooded t-shirt.
I had presumed sweatshirt. But then since I wasn’t buying anyway I didn’t read the fine print.
Not what I was expecting but I actually really like the sleeved options from the last couple mehrathons, hoping they come around again now that I know for sure what I’m getting.
@tuinybadger
So it’s not your typical sweatshirt bc it really look like one in the pics?
@Star2236 @tuinybadger Take two long-sleeve hooded t-shirts (made out of t-shirt material, in this case 60/40) and use the black one to line the red one, or, alternatively, use the red one to line the black one. That’s what these are. They look and fit like hooded sweatshirts.
I got the black with red today. Not sure what I was expecting, just hoping it would fit, which it does. It is not fleece lined, so it’s definitely not a sweatshirt. Normally when I get French Terry it tends to be scratchy on the inside, but this is not like that. I find it to be very soft and comfortable. I may get another in the other color. Highly recommend.
I am wearing my hoodie now, and it certainly isn’t what I was expecting. I think if I had to put a pinpoint on my disappointment it would be that the cost was pretty high for the quality/weight of the item received…but then I am comparing to $5 meh shirts of the past.
Hoodie = any shirt with a hood
There are T-shirt hoodies and sweatshirt hoodies. Both are acceptable forms of hoodies.
However, I agree with your general premise that the world is now backwards. Cats and dogs are living together in perfect harmony. Dr. Venkman was a prophet.
Wait, where are they teaching them to put their hands?
@themutilator Wouldn’t you like to know. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@themutilator No higher than 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock, and the lower the better. The reasoning is that when you’re higher up and the steering wheel airbag inflates it will push your hands into your face faster than you can say “broken eye socket”. Also the old method gave excellent leverage appropriate for vehicles without power steering, of which there ain’t any of anymore, except for the exceptions.
@getkind @themutilator There have been several cases of thumb avulsion & partial amputation attributed to airbag deployment coupled with the 10 & 2 o’clock hand position.
@ELJAY @getkind @themutilator my middle finger is forever fucked up because of an airbag deployment sending my hand into the rearview mirror.
I can’t snap on my right hand anymore.
@ELJAY @getkind @RiotDemon @themutilator Well that sucks. Sorry to hear about your middle finger.
In the DC-Baltimore area that would be considered a disability, since you can’t properly signal other drivers.
@getkind @themutilator wow, I had no idea. I guess I’ve done got old.
@themutilator It was still 10 and 2 in the 90s, but they said don’t wrap your thumbs around the wheel. pretty sure an airbag will send your hands outward, and not towards your face unless you are reaching across the wheel. Right hand into the mirror and left into the side window seem possible though.
@mehcuda67 Oh, I can definitely use my middle finger as intended still! Snapping just physically hurts and I don’t have any power so it sounds like almost nothing. I had a trigger finger so if I opened my hand, the middle finger stayed bent. They ended up doing surgery on it but my finger is still messed up in other ways.
I love my new hoodie
I know people who call sweatshirts sweaters, so…
It was a hooded t-shirt, you’re mixing two different things here.
I’d love a picture of someone’s actual item to see if it looks the same.
Hoodies are properly made from Hoodymium
I know two people who call hoodies “sweatshirts” and I don’t understand why.
