Weekend status report
4It is Monday, I hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine was filled with Not Pron puzzles, some product research for: a new chair, keyboard, mouse, webcam etc that I plan to purchase, games, and some Oktoberfest beers from the comfort of my fairly crappy, worn leatherette covered task chair.
How was yours? Do anything good? Maybe some early Halloween parties? Anything creepy happen?

Helped my oldest get his college applications submitted. The really hard part is yet to come: Completing financial aid & scholarship forms.
At least it finally stopped raining.

@Targaryen He’s got the SAT scores to get admitted anywhere, but surprisingly few schools are interested in his ‘dual-track’ courses (college classes used to satisfy HS graduation rqmts) - he’ll graduate with an Associate Degree in Math & Science from Tarrant County College.
He’s applied to Texas Tech (they have a unique program for ASD students that would be great for him), Colo School of Mines (best research uni in CO), & Loyola-Chicago. Plus UT-Arlington & Midwestern State as ‘back-ups’ (he was intimidated by UT-Austin).
@compunaut @Targaryen UT Arlington has an amazing math teacher - Dr Black. She used to work with me at the college I work at. What is he interested in studying?

@ivannabc @Targaryen He has a real gift for all areas of mathematics. Taught himself to program in Python & C++. Taking physics now; anxious to explore relativity/quantum theories.
The Ivy League schools we met with at a local college fair (tho Harvard wasn’t there) were firmly set against allowing his jr. college credit. He’s not interested in repeating those classes, and they’re too far from friends/family anyway.

Was helping the hubby finish installing a stupid radar thing up on the sailboat mast, but of course in sending it back down to me so he could do more adjustments it slipped out of the ropes and fell 20 feet down to bounce off the dinghy hard bottom and onto my big toe. Which is now swollen. And he tried to blame me. That was not a fun Saturday.

@moonhat What’s the radar used for? I guess I should say: When do you use the radar thing?
Are you in Seattle or the ‘real’ Pacific coast? Or am I remembering someone else?
@compunaut I think radar is used in foggy weather and such, for being seen far away etc. we’re in the Seattle area.
Cleaned the turtle aquarium, repaired the kitchen sink, vacuum sealed and froze about 35 pounds of chicken breasts, and continued my “revisit The Sopranos” binge.
Not much, really. Unfortunately the sink repair wound up taking most of Saturday. For some reason plumbing repairs always seem to do that… take hours longer than expected.
@ruouttaurmind At least you can do that sort of stuff. Unlike my father or even grandfather I never learned all that basic handyman stuff. I mean Youtube is a thing, but it’s not the same.
@Targaryen I’m thankful for the skills I’ve developed over the years. When I chat with the people in my office and they mention having to call a service person for this or that, or “take the car in” it reinforces my gratitude for self reliance. Every once in a while I encounter something outside my skill set and it frustrates me to defer to the experts.
Not too much here. Heloed hubbie cut some firewood, ran errands, church on Sunday followed by Sunday dinner with my side of the family. The regular stuffs. Nice and relaxing though!
@tnhillbillygal That is the way a Sunday should be, an easy-going slide into Monday.
Dog/cat-sitting (three dogs, two cats). One of the big dogs found a new toy: a roll of toilet paper he stole from the basement. And the little dog and one of the cats got into a barking/hissing match with the other large dog.
Nothing like being awakened by a small-but-heavy dog standing on top of you and thinking to yourself, “Did I just see a dog go by with a roll of toilet paper in its mouth?”
I hope it’s not bragging to say that they were barking/hissing over access to me. It’s tough when you’ve got five animals but only two arms, and everybody wants your totally undivided attention.
Went to a wedding and started painting outside of house.

@compunaut nah, we got 'em an air fryer. I couldn’t get anyone at the wedding to come help me the next day
1st weekend off after working 4 weekends in a row.
Watched part of the Iowa game but had a headache so took ibuprofen and a nap and missed the 2nd half.
Got some simming (TS3) in on both Saturday and Sunday.
It was wet and icky here sat (mexican chicken soup and taco weather) Sunday was too nice work so it was bike riding at Cowpens
Wife and I had a staycation from Friday evening until Sunday around noon. Drank like a fish Friday night, then slept most of Saturday (although was watching some movies on and off on KODI/FireStick). Went a little lighter on the drinking on Saturday night but still enough to get a good buzz. BIG breakfast Sunday morning (came with the stay at the hotel). Went grocery shopping then back home and kicked back on the couch watching football. Sunday evening watched The Walking Dead but fell asleep half way through. Usually cut the grass on weekends but not this past weekend. Very relaxing…
I’m in New England so I watched a lot of sports and carved pumpkins and had pumpkin spice lattes because I am a 37 y/o father trying to be basic. Spent time with the kids and wife and served at our church. It was an awesome weekend.

@zinimusprime That might be the first time anyone has ever called Worcester awesome. But yeah I’ve been to some shows, my favorite which is right around time of year is the Rock and Shock festival. Rock music and horror/thriller/others version of a comic convention.
