In my experience, Irk is actually fortunate that he is getting an 80% success rate from these waiters that refuse to write stuff down. The rate seems to about 20% when I am dining. Usually it isn’t a big deal and something that is easily remedied ( perhaps a drink or including the wrong side item), but they will screw something up for at least one person at the table. Just write it down, man.
You know what really bothers me? The rare occasion when the waiter asserts that that he/she got it right and I am mistaken about what I ordered. He/she insists that the possibility of my ordering a food that I distinctly loathe and then forgetting I did so, is far more likely than them making a mistake.
Yep… for the most part. I don’t like going to a restaurant that is lower to mid scale and them trying to impress you with that (they usually get it wrong 4 out 5 times as far as I"m concerned). But I don’t mind at a very upscale. They generally get it right 100% of the time. And then I am impressed.

@medz Not all tho. I went to one last wk… took my parents. Very pricey, voted best steak around, cigar bar, etc… pretty good menu. The waitress was perfect, wrote nothing down and missed absolutely nothing. Had Italian, great steaks, Fish, Lamb. But I know what you’re talking about. been to a few that had expensive, short, odd, menus. I’m still impressed when they didn’t write it but get all the different doneness, toppings, sides and special requests right. I gotta wonder if they have a recorder in their pocket. I could take an order for 3 waters and forget what I was getting when I reached the kitchen.
@lseeber Or they’re actually using voice recognition technology like Amazon Echo or Google Home to record the spoken orders and automatically place them in the system. The waitstaff is only there to prompt the customer to speak the order.

When you do see it, the people working there appreciate the compensation you give them by paying more for the food and service than you will at TGI’s or Olive Garden. I was one of them for a long time.
@capnk@lseeber A couple of them here have been renovated to include touchscreen kiosks that allow you to place your own order exactly how you want it. (and pay for it) They just cook it and bring it to you.
Alternatively, you can use the mobile app to place and pay for order and they’ll bring it car side. More accuracy.
Both of these methods still have some room for human error (ex: prepare it wrong or put wrong thing in bag), but you’re taking out one of the potential points of human error.

We recently went to Red Robin. The waiter did not write our order down. I spent the entire meal thinking of this video and shared it with the other members of our group.

A friend of mine went to one last week and one of the employees fixing her food looked at her sneering while she was standing there (her husband complained before hand that his fries were stone cold the last time) When she opened her burger it was wrapped in his plastic glove inside the other wrapper. Needless to say, something of a fight ensued.

I’m sure Red Robin pays their employees well enought to attract employees that can prepare food, have a self-pride in doing it well, and include extra pay for entertaining you watching them do it. Red Robin gets exactly the quality of employees they are willing to pay the minimum wage for ($260/wk, or $1,100/mo).

@lseeber Upscale joints don’t tend to have very many options on the menu. Easier to remember if there are fewer potentials combinations.
