@ELUNO yes it takes place in those years. 2010 was the sequel to 2001. At the end of 2001 Dave Bowman disappears… In 2010 they go and get on the Odyssey and wake HAL up.

2066 takes place mostly around Europa. 3001… Well, a character comes back. Not gonna say which one in case anyone is interested to read them.

I suggest checking them out from the library. The book 2001 and the movie are a little different, and when he wrote 2010 he wrote it as a sequel to the movie, instead of the book because it made more sense.

I say it makes more sense because he wrote the book 2001 knowing a Stanley Kubrick was going to turn it into a movie. The books have forewords that talk all about the decision about how to write it. Same thing with 2010 when he wrote it after the movie. It was so popular, it just worked better to follow the movie.

@OldCatLady Class I teach online for what is going to turn out to be for far less than minimum wage where we are required to use the shell and this one is so totally fucked up - am not paid to redo the shell but have to so the grade book is linked to the assignments, all the duplicate stuff is removed, so the points match the syllabus (all of this crap is screwed up - oh yeah and it is a different book so need to change a pile of other crap too) and the LMS is so screwed that you can’t make global changes - have to change shit in multiple places. To top it off this is only the second class I have taught for them and so in this case only the second time I have used this LMS so there is a learning curve involved. I’d quit but I need the money. At least my boss is nice so that is a plus.

@f00l The only thing the Moon Moon sequence was intended to do was amuse. If you search for the meme, you’ll find the whole history, with many more photos. I got into it from looking at the Shiba/ ‘doge’ images. If I wasn’t tagged in a post here it’s very possible I didn’t see it. If the fake 0ldCatLady was tagged, they doubtless saw it and are wetting themselves with hilarity.

She started posting her Moon Moon encore shortly after a suggestion for our fraudster to come forth. And @OldCatLady’s lively farewell sequence could have been read as a confession. Or not.

I took it as a confession, perhaps out of careless reading - but at least among us, @narfcake also saw it in that light for a time. @OldCatLady had never even seen the Call To Confess posts, and had no idea her stuff was being read that way. So we were all cross-talking each other. She assumed we loved Moon Moon (we did); we assumed she was dancing gracefully toward her exit with a clever prank and admission ( the dancing gracefully part is true - not the prank or the admission).

And then @OldCatLady finally caught the drift of our thoughts and issued an explicit denial. I think she’s a bit pissed about the voter fraud.

It’s gonna be difficult to read this in a linear fashion - with v late reply posts appearing ahead of earlier non-reply posts, and also conversation on this topic going on both here and in the Sept blame thread, to some degree.

So, no public confessions, AFAIK. And perhaps, at this hour, little point in one, unless someone has evidence or wishes to stir a pot.
