I’ve got a Dwarf Gourami that will nibble my finger at feeding time.
But my favorite was an Emperor Snapper than knew me as someone different from everyone else in the house. When I would walk by the tank, he’d come up to the top & splash back & forth a bit. And he would eat out of my hand.
He didn’t pay attention to anyone else in the family.
I am not surprised. Goldfish are one of the smartest fish out there. They, if in a tank that is large enough, live about 20 years old. They interact with those outside their tank (just ask my cats why they loved this cat TV over betta fish cat TV).
@Kidsandliz We had a goldfish that lived to be 8 years old. it died right before we moved. it probably needed a bigger tank, but my oldest won it at a fair and it was never meant to be a long-term pet.
@Kidsandliz@mbersiam mine were rescued from a fair as well from people that didn’t intend to win but it was for charity lol. One lived a year and died during move, another lived 7 years and survived three moves? Four maybe? And died during the three day drive of a move, which fair enough my dude.

We bought a half dozen cheap goldfish from Wal-Mart several years back. Kept them in a couple of 5 gallon buckets until the 100-150 gallon plactic fish pond got installed out front. (a gift from a friend who had installed a much larger one). One of them is now about the size of a beer can, and we even had some babies hatch. Interestingly enough, though the original ones were all ‘gold’ the babies were an assortment of gold, white, black and combinations of those colors! Guess gold is a dominant gene. They are thriving and will grow to fit the tank size.
Like others have mentioned, they recognize me as their meal ticket and will crowd to the end of the pond when I come out to feed them when the water temp is sufficiently high.
@chienfou@majorpun@mbersiam They are smart little buggers. They were the first fish I realized had personalities and were interested in the world outside of their fish tank. They also hang out in social groups.
Have fun with yours. I have read you can teach them tricks too.

I enjoyed this joke a great deal, but I don’t understand why Goldfish #2 didn’t volunteer to fish the guns.
