I think it’s fairly well-known on meh that I’m a typical middle-aged white male. I generally vote Republican, I do skew more towards center on social issues but I’m fiscally conservative.

But this story bothered be a bit. I love baseball, I adore baseball. But I never noticed that the umpires are all white. Forget about gender politics, why are the umps all white? What gives? Why didn’t I notice this?

a Cincinnati Enquirer review of just under 100 umpires on the MLB roster revealed that roughly 10 were either African-American or Hispanic.
And while the initial hiring of umpires falls on minor-league baseball rather than the major leagues, MLB officials insist they’ve been doing what they can to refocus the development process.

I happen to love the minor league ballpark experience over the major’s so this statement bothers me as well. I guess I need to write to Bill the Damn Hippie to find out what to do about it.
