The vast majority of plastics are derived from petroleum, and the vast majority of fossil fuels are also derived from petroleum, but it’s highly inefficient to make fuel and then convert it into plastic. And petroleum is ancient ocean sediment; seabottom slime, which builds up in layers that can be miles thick, and take millions of years to “cook” into petroleum.
So your car doesn’t run on dinosaurs, it mostly runs on algae, dead plankton, and sea critter shit that accumulates in the deeps.
