There’s a very good chance that the next metropolitan area over from your closest is still further away than Outer Space. I mean, it’s only 62 miles away.
If you’re speaking of distances between 1m+ population metro areas, my local instance is about 32 miles, courthouse to courthouse.
There are lots and lots of “nearby and in-between courthouses” outer space instances within some local human brains (mine included).
That’s all closer than 32 miles.
My alleged brain space that quite a serious vacuum is supposedly “very nearby” at the moment.
@ExtraMedium @f00l That’s quite a nice figure to have handy - often our jobs are more than 62 miles away, so as I’m toodling off thru the fog at 6 am, I can now envision I’m on my way to the ISS for some Tang …
@f00l Turns out, there are only 10 cities at with >1m in the US. Though there are a few outliers with high populations in close proximity that would back your point over mine.
Honestly, I was just thinking about how, even in Portland, I could reach space more quickly than the Pacific Ocean, given the right vehicles traveling at the same rate of speed.
