I totally spaced out that it’s April already! Thanks to @cinoclav for the new April topic.

This camera uses the M4/3 lens mounting system (developed by Olympus and Panasonic; used by several cameras). Several people are of the opinion the lenses alone are well worth the price of this bundle, and buy it for the lenses, reselling the camera body to net back much of their investment.
The camera itself is a well-featured marvel considering the price of admission. The Sony IMX269 image sensor has an excellent reputation for delivering superior imaging results in all varieties of conditions.
I would jump on this to replace my stolen Canon but with my farsighted vision I’m not sure I want to be without a viewfinder (Mirrorless cameras are limited to using the attached display due to the lack of a viewfinder).

@Targaryen I don’t know that answer but in related news I did read that it doesn’t do live HDMI out. Some reviews said it would be really great for 4k video if it did.

Home Depot has the Gorilla Ladders MPX22 22’ multifunction ladder for $99. I think they do this about once a year and we may have discussed it last year.
I own this ladder and like it. It’s maybe a little heavier than the comparable Little Giant but lighter than the Werner or Harbor Freight versions. I think the twist latches are friendlier than the hooks the LG uses. And 375lb capacity is significantly more than some of the competition, and it feels really steady.
@djslack Oh Lord, anything is lighter than those damn Werner ladders. I didn’t even want to bring that thing out. With my current house the Little Giant fits the bill nicely.

@ruouttaurmind I got mine yesterday. Hose seems pretty good. I’m worried about the plastic quick connect adapters, though. It seems like you are required to use those. I suppose I’ll add a Y-splitter to the spigot and leave the quick connector screwed into one of the them so I don’t have to unscrew it when I want to attach a different hose. (which would defeat the purpose of the quick connect)

I cheated. I just fired my satellite service so all I had to do was disconnect the existing coax from the dish and connect it to the antenna. All in, it took about 5 minutes to install.
@mfladd The mounting post is optional on these. However it is encased in plastic for outdoor weather protection and aesthetics. About 1/2" thick, since it is just basically a coat hanger inside.
FYI, there are DIY coat hanger antenna designs put there. Any metal will do, but copper is the most conductive, and would make the best material if you can choose it.

@ruouttaurmind Sweet. Something to use Best Buy Rewards for - I had $15, so $5.46 and a trip to town later I will have this.
I have a flat antenna array in the attic now, but there are two networks/channel groups that are a little wonky. I am hoping the increased gain of the Yagi can put a little more oomph on those weak ones. It will be well worth it if it does.

@djslack @ruouttaurmind The fiver is for scale. A Jackson is for date night to pull in adults-only channels. The wire is a scrap piece of 12ga 3-wire romex. I used the ground wire as the antenna. Each side of the bowtie is separate, with the crossovers perpendicular to each other to minimize interference. The design is off the interwebs, and spec’ed to HDTV UHF bands. The lengths and angles of the bowties are tuned to the center of my local channels frequency range min/max.

MSRP is (ha!) $85, Amz normally sells for about $60. Brain damaged dromedary says all time lowest price in 8 years was $38, so this is close.
9’x7’ with a 5’ center height. This one weighs 9 and a half pounds. So unless you’re tougher than me, you probably won’t be backpacking with it. But it’s a fine car camping tent, or fun for the kiddies for a back yard camp out. Includes a structured rainfly with door and window awnings. I’ve had one for years and it’s plenty large enough for my full size air mattress, and a folding table and chair, plus room for the two hounds on the floor.
@ruouttaurmind we bought one for about $60 on amazon in 2017. We had reward points, so out-of-pocket it was only $20ish. Good lil tent for 2 adults and 1 small child. Good air flow when the tarp is off. Like that it has the little air window at the bottom that you can stake-out so the breeze hits you while sleeping. The first time we used it, it rained. Hard. We stayed dry, but there was some moisture under the air mattress. (don’t know where it came in)

@medz Well that may be true but I used to work in outdoor adventure and I can tell you first hand that it makes a difference with how dry you stay in heavy rain, especially if you put up your tent in an area that is packed down hard (tend to get standing water that way).

The caveats
There are a few catches here, mostly for existing Spotify and Hulu subscribers. Current Spotify subscribers who have a “Students Tier” membership or the “Family Plan” – where up to four members of a household can listen to different songs concurrently – are not eligible for this promotion. Same goes for Hulu subscribers who have the “No Ads” or “Hulu + Live TV” plans.
This deal includes Spotify’s Premium tier of service, which is ad-free, and Hulu’s “ad-supported” plan, which includes ad interruptions. @mfladd I tried Spotify’s Premium service back when you could get the Google Home Mini for 1 cent with it. I found the Spotify’s interface very non-intuitive. I’m glad I tried it out, but I didn’t like it.
My ad-supported 99 cent special Hulu subscription has been very enjoyable though.
@therealjrn Damn. I keep kicking myself for not jumping on the hulu deal. I prefer pandora, but am considering since I will need hulu. The one station I will not be able to get thru antenna is NBC.
When my comcast contract expires in June I will go with antenna, netflix, amazon prime (I use prime anyway), and hulu. I should be good for my needs. That just leaves me lacking syfy, history, and amc.
@mfladd @therealjrn I did the $1/mo for a year deal with Hulu. Cancelled after the first month. Not even for a dollar. YMMV. I can find enough commercial supported TV on my Roku without any monthly fees.

In two days I’ll be losing my Amazon Prime Video (I chose not to renew Prime). At the end of the month my divorce from Dish Network will be final. My TV habits are in flux right now.
Saturday I installed a cheap yagi antenna from Best Buy. My previous leaf type indoor antenna only received 3 channels (one spanish, one religeous, one local independent; no networks). After installing the yagi on the roof my reception went up to 93 channels. Not a bad ROI for $20.
@ruouttaurmind @therealjrn So I did some research on antennaweb.org and another site. Apparently it does not matter if I have a non-amplified indoor antenna all the way to a rooftop antenna - I will still get the only 4 stations available. I think I will go with an amplified indoor just to be safe.
The only station I can not get around here is NBC (2.5 hr drive away). So hulu will give me what I need for that - correct?
@mfladd Hulu Live would, regular Hulu, not necessarily so. They have some NBC stuff, but it’s limited. As I understand it, Hulu Live offers more NBC options. Since NBC announced their own streaming service, it seems they may be limiting access to their programming on their website.
@ruouttaurmind I would still be at the same cost keeping my comcast tv portion (they gouge you for internet only) picking up hulu live. Oh well.
Everyone is announcing their own streaming service! I have a feeling the streaming /cable worlds are in a serious upheaval right now. What will exist when the dust settles?

I expressed the same sentiment in your Disney topic. The streaming industry is in flux. When it settles I think we’ll wind up paying just as much as we currently do for cable/satellite services. ISP service is also creeping up because they’re losing TV revenue and seeing massive traffic increases because of the transition to streaming.

There was discussion of light boards on here before (for tracing or vinyl layering). How about one for under $10? Amazon has this A4 size unit for $9.06 if you get the third party; $2.07 plus $6.99 shipping. Or get it Prime for $12.68 if you click on other new offers.
I’ve been kind of watching this one for a little while, I left a tab open with it when it was just under $14 and then it went up to $20. It looks like these third parties come in and sell cheap, and the prime listing drops in response. $2.07 is the lowest price that’s been on this product, and the prime is also the lowest I’ve seen. It hovers around $18-20 when there’s not something making the price bots battle.
I opted for the prime version sold by the brand itself. They have high seller ratings and I can have it in two days instead of two weeks for my $3.62.
@djslack I ordered one then cancelled it. I was thinking I could use it to copy coloring book pages for 3-doodling and remembered they are mostly 2-sided.
@sammydog01 yeah, that would probably mess you up. And you could copy them to make them one sided, but then if you could copy them you wouldn’t need to trace them.
@djslack Yup, that was me last month. I wound up with this one which looks similar, and I paid a bunch more for it ($23). The only real differences I can see between the two is the one I bought has infinitely adjustable brightness, and that one is 3 fixed levels. Also mine is 3.5w vs 1.5w on the one you linked. I splurged on the brighter one thinking “better to have and not need than to need and not have”. Same seller by the way.
@ruouttaurmind I compared the one I ordered with yours and wound up cancelling the first one and ordering yours. I did it for two reasons: Higher brightness level inferred from the wattage difference, and I learned that there was a grid or honeycomb pattern in the cheaper one (maybe to help with that diamond painting stuff?) that does not exist in the version you got. There were some photos that made it look very noticeable, although other reviewers said it was fine.
The same other seller was lowballing that listing too ($4.49 plus shipping, but wouldn’t receive until May 29) so the price was down to $17 and change, which seemed pretty good for one that should be over twice as bright.
@djslack I can tell you it’s plenty bright enough to shine through a layer of vinyl so I can align a second layer of vinyl with backing and transfer film. I haven’t tried three layers yet, but I expect it will meet my needs there as well.

*With the shuttering of UltraViolet (myuv.com) this summer, I’ll be losing 7 films from my library. These are titles I paid premium price for when digital was nearly as costly as disk. Be aware this is always a possibility with digital films. My new strategy is to purchase disk and either rip, or use Vudu’s disk-to-digital service. At least I’ll always have my hard copy if Vudu closes shop. It’s an evolving market, kids. Anything can happen.

@russellmz I guess I haven’t checked. Most of my library transferred to Fandango without a problem. I contacted UV about the others and their response was to download them to my phone and watch with their mobile app. Well and good until their app is not compatible with my mobile OS anymore, or I change phones, or I want to enjoy my movie on a screen larger than 5.5”.

@russellmz I read through the linky you posted. It’s essentially a description of how to merge libraries via the UV account merge process. Been there. Did it. Couple months ago. Cross-populated with everything except Apple (no Apple streaming device except my phone and tablet).
Unfortunately some titles won’t play in any other service (Cowboys vs. Aliens for example) because of studio licensing agreements. So I can see the titles in, for example, Fandango. But Fandango doesn’t let me play them. Same for Google, Amazon and MoviesAnywhere. So unless something changes in the next couple months, I’ve lost those films for good.
Amz: National Geographic’s Polar Explorations Season 1, digital HD for $1.00 (to buy, not rent). 22 episodes, about 11 hours of programming. That’s less than ten cents an hour!

Lowe’s is having a coupon text promotion. If you go to the store and text Spring to 78133 you get a random coupon from $5-500 off your purchase and it has to be used today. @therealjrn Yes and no. This model doesn’t have wifi capability, but solutions are available. Powerline adapters or wifi range extender with Ethernet jack are probably the two most common and least expensive. I paid about $16 for the TP-Link range extender I use with my surveillance DVR.
