I’m hoping for a ground breaking plot where an unlikely and mostly untrained hero beats everyone nearly single handedly and then is able to destroy a weapon that only has 1 reason for existing but somehow employs 10’s of thousands of people without regard to how money and resources work in the vacuum of space.

Heart stoppage! That’s a whole lot of teasing for a first trailer. I think JJ is going to bring the big arc to an honorable and memorable close - there’s bits from all previous 8 movies in there. And what is Rey holding in her hand as they stand by the ocean looking at the death star wreckage? And what’s with the Emperor being back? And when can I get the little “Hair Dryer Unicycle” (thank you @somf69) toy?

@blaineg As soon as that opening crawl begins, I’m going to be in tears. I’m going to be an adult man, surrounded by a bunch of people, crying out of both the sheer joy that Star Wars brings and the realization that this is the final movie of the original planned 9. And I can’t wait to do so.
@cinoclav George Lucas has changed the story on Star Wars lots of times. For a while it was going to be twelve films. If the first was unsuccessful, there would be only one possible sequel, Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, which would strongly contradict canon established later in TESB and ROTJ.
@Limewater I recall the history and mentioning the possibility of 10 more films after TESB. But in general it was more often suggested there would be three trilogies. Hell, if they decide to go forward with one more origin story (most likely Obi-Wan) than we’ll technically have four trilogies.
@cinoclav I just don’t understand why George Lucas feels he has to try to convince everyone that he had a complete grand vision of the Star Wars saga fully formed before making the first one.
Or that Star Wars wasn’t just meant to be a fun fantasy film but instead was about great, deep themes passed down in classical mythology, religion, and human history.
It’s obvious he was flying by the seat of his pants, and there’s nothing wrong with that. He made some good movies that really connected with a lot of people.
I don’t think he’s ever felt the need to claim that he had “The Last Crusade” all planned out before making “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
@Limewater Considering he wanted to make something akin to Flash Gordon, I think he got pretty damn lucky with the direction he was basically forced to go in. The fact that he just said Jar Jar was his favorite character and that he loves The Phantom Menace, I’d say he has completely lost what mind he had.
The Death Star? Emperor Palpatine? Lando and Chewie flying the Millenium Falcon? Didn’t we already complain that the Force Awakens was nothing but fan-serving nostalgia of the original trilogy?
I mean, sure I’m still gonna see it 3-4 times in the theater. but if the friggin Ewoks show up I ain’t spring for IMAX.
I love that the music in the trailer is Leia’s Theme. I’m still not over it. I really hope they don’t walk back the “Anyone can cook” theme from TLJ, I really liked the idea that AniVader’s genocidal tantrum in Rise of the Sith didn’t work.
