Like someone, somewhere, turns on a dome light? I get it - this is like one of those butterfly-flaps-its-wings-in-China-and-causes-a-hurricane-in-the-Atlantic sort of things…
I’m old enough to remember when cars had 1 dome light yes just one, and that is if it worked. And we were glad to have it. Dim incandescent bulb. If on a mellow section of road, no problem. May not in complex city traffic.
Now cars have focused LED spotlights for driver, passenger seat, often rear seats too. Different world out there,
So the answers:
1980s cool, man, go for it
2020s just use your own F-in’ light!
@pmarin I wouldn’t know anything about that. My 2008 mustang doesn’t have focused lights and the backseat doesn’t fit any human over the age of 7. I’d wonder why even have backseat when they are that small but my Neapolitan mastiff and then my Anatolian shepherd used to ride back there just fine.
@kittykat9180 What do they like to read?
Reminds me, we had a 1968 Cadillac as my first “tank” to drive. It had some kind of rear lights, but more important, a cigarette lighter for each seat, and ash tray of course. It was the 60s! (I think my mother bought it used in early 70s). I think in total it had 5 cigarette lighters.
@ItalianScallion@werehatrack Comedian Stephen Wright had a joke about that. Sorry I couldn’t find video but there are some long clips of his great comedy material. I moved into a new house.
There was a switch; I didn’t know what it did. So I kept turning it on and off.
My neighbor came over and said “cut it out!”
I read the question wrong. I didn’t know turning on your interior dome light at night bothered other drivers, I do it quite a bit, I can never find my cigarettes or lighter. My cars a 2007 so the light isn’t that bright anyway, my headlights aren’t even that bright anymore.
What I can’t stand is those assholes that have the SUPER bright headlights. Those should be illegal. I love when I have my brights on (we have some super dark roads around here with lots of deer) and the asshole with lights as bright as the sun is clicking his acting like he can’t see. “Hey dick, maybe if you didn’t have those super bright lights to begin with, I might be able to see the road.”
@tricityladytn Reminds me of a bench with a built-in solar panel to power USB charging ports. Behind it was a nice tree. During the winter when it was too cold to sit outside, the solar panels got plenty of sun. During the summer when the tree was full of leaves, you could sit on the bench, which was nicely shaded, and enjoy the lovely weather. Guess what else was shaded too?
It’s not illegal to drive with the dome light on, however it makes it harder to see out the windows and windshield at night. And if you have illegal tint on your windows, it’s impossible!!!
I never found that to be the case, mostly driving Chryslers or Toyotas anyway. If someone was driving leading another car, the dome light was turned on in case the cars got separated. I don’t recall any visibility issues when in the lead car.

Deep, Meh.

@pmarin I ditto this.

Insurance reasons. A 4 seat car gets a lower rate than a 2 seat. It is one of the stupiderester things about insurance.
@pmarin I don’t understand your question.
I had a ‘72 Plymouth as my first car. She was a big car but not as big as my friend’s mid-70s Cadillac.
And they end up in the trunk no matter what their profession.
@yakkoTDI That is a Great answer.
@mycya4me @yakkoTDI I was gonna say pull back a nub but yours is better
I’ll just ask them how they did it. I can’t find the damn switch for mine.
@werehatrack There are four switches for the various “dome” lights in my Mini Cooper. I haven’t figured out what each one of them does.
@ItalianScallion @werehatrack Comedian Stephen Wright had a joke about that. Sorry I couldn’t find video but there are some long clips of his great comedy material.

No issue as long as they turn it off when they’re done.

If it’s daytime, no problem. At night, annoying.
