@nogoodwithnames I think the issue is most people won’t work to train a small dog beyond “Don’t bite me” then they just pick it up if they need. Can’t pull that trick with a bigger dog, so you have to train them more to work with them. Have a couple small dogs, one of which is a chihuahua. She is not the usual trembling ball of hate because we trained her. The chihuahua we had growing up was, because we never bothered to train.
@nogoodwithnames You haven’t met a Shih Tzu. We have one and he almost never barks except to let us know something is up. With new people he is mostly interested in sniffing your feet. He’s a great dog and friend.
@nogoodwithnames@simplersimon Agreed, it’s a lot easier to live with a small poorly behaved dog than a large poorly behaved dog, and so properly training medium and large dogs to have manners often feels much more important. I had a chihuahua before my current medium-sized dog, and I hadnt realized how important training was until my 25-pound puppy started jumping up on people and running at their faces
@nogoodwithnames I do pet sitting thru the Rover service, and I get a pretty even mix of well behaved and ill behaved dogs in all sizes and all breeds. I can say that the 160lb Great Dane I cared for who’d never heard the word “no” was definitely more challenging than the 5lb chihuahua who was equally undisciplined.
@Cerridwyn I’ve dealt with toddlers, I much prefer dogs. Not quite as clever, and much less chance of opening doors. Plus, I’ve been bit more by toddlers than dogs.
@Mehrocco_Mole There was a St.Bernard who lived down the street from the family I roomed with in college. Jumped me while I was riding my bike past his house. Came bounding off the porch like something out of a horror movie. Grabbed the handlebars with his mouth and tossed me. Luckily then decided I was no fun to play with and went back to his porch rather than eat me. Not the best memory.
@Eskieguy
I miss our Eskie so much, such a sweetheart. We had to let her go 6 years ago now, and it hurt so much my husband couldn’t bear to have another one right away so we ended up with a JRT/corgi mix. Definitely a different attitude about life. This was Chloe.
I am a dog person, I like dogs that are between 20 and 40 pounds. big enough to have a presence when one is needed and small enough to take on vacation and trips when you want to take them.
All dogs! “God sent angels down to earth in the form of dogs with notes saying, “Don’t judge… just love.” The dogs ate the notes… but they keep trying to deliver the message.”. For me, it’s giants all the way. Tempest is my 9th Great Dane, and Zephyr is my 5th Wolfhound (he’s half Irish Wolfhound half Borzoi). Both rescues.
The neighbors have a pair of Mastiffs. They are sweet big old goofballs, but I could not tolerate all that drool. My all time favorite dogs (that have been part of my family) were Dobermans.
Cats
Self-explanatory.
@PooltoyWolf ah yes i too like my dogs like i like my women
@PooltoyWolf @spacemart Artificially enhanced?
@spacemart @tweezak Oh my.
Rescue dog from Puerto Rico. (He came to me at age 4 months, 8 years ago.) He weighs ~50 lbs.
Medium sized dogs! Say hi to Maci. She’s 65 lbs
@jsh139 according to my dog food, that’s considered a large breed.
@RiotDemon Yeah, she’s a pitbull mix, so she’s smaller than you might think. Lots of muscle!
Ca… damn it, too slow
I assume little dogs can be trained more or less as well as bigger dogs, but I have yet to meet one that isn’t a horrible twitching bitey little shit.

@awk no, it’s just a small man with a regular sized dog, you can’t fool us!
Servals.
/image serval
@yakkoTDI At least domesticate it a bit.
/image savannah cat
@cinoclav Nope. I got bodies to dispose of.
/giphy all dogs!
Small dogs indoors, big dogs where they have room to run. All you saying cats should be ashamed of yourselves.
@simplersimon Small dogs indoors, big dogs outdoors, cats where they have room to run…like the rifle range.
@simplersimon I’m just messing. We have two cats and they can be a lot of fun.
@simplersimon
if i wanted a toddler, i’d have a foster child… easier to care for than a dog
@Cerridwyn I’ve dealt with toddlers, I much prefer dogs. Not quite as clever, and much less chance of opening doors. Plus, I’ve been bit more by toddlers than dogs.
The ones that live at other people’s houses. And don’t bite, jump, sniff, or slobber me when I come over.
As far as size? If it has poop bigger than mine, it’s too big.
the ones that Meow…
All dogs! Or rather, most dogs.
We have a wonderful medium-sized mutt along with a bunch of cats. Someday I’ll have a Keeshond again. They’re the perfect size.

More than an Ewok, less than a Wookiee.
Giant dogs!
Grew up with St. Bernards.

American Eskimo Dogs, and of course a cat

I love all the big dogs! Newfies are probably my favorite and I love German shepherds, too, but I’ll take any doggo!

Whatever my wife lets in the house (and our hearts).
Chihuahuas! Give me all your chihuahuas!!!
No pets at home. The kids all have dogs, so we can visit when we want to and they take care of them. Labs.
I like all dogs…and I cannot lie…uh, nevermind.
Medium to big. Our Pitbull/Boxer mix is just about perfect, but I also wouldn’t mind sharing my home with a Malamute or Great Pyrenees.
all dogs!

Which is to say: medium sized dogs with long legs.
Yorkies!!!

Dog love increases proportionally with dog volume.
@InnocuousFarmer I prefer the quiet ones.
@macromeh You’re right. Maybe I was thinking of surface area.
Vizsla is the greatest dog you can have
Anatolian Shepherds are my favorite dogs on Earth!
love giant dogs, but don’t want to clean up after them, so small to medium
It really depends on how much space you have. I like all dogos.
How about no dogs, I’m allergic.
I have a soft spot for keeshonds but currently am not in a lifestyle conducive to being a good dog owner
Labs, Weimaraner or Golden Retriever. No tiny little cat size dogs
