19Good Morning and thanks to everyone that chatted with us on the forums and attended our Twitch stream for the birthday event. We always appreciate you all.
So, today we want to see pictures of something that you have on your desk, in your bag, or with you etc that you find interesting and want to share with us.

Photo cube made from some of the best pictures I took on my year-long backpacking trip.
@Trillian oh! nice!
@Trillian You’ve been to Petra! Cool!
@Trillian You’ve been to places that are on my list. How was backpacking?
@Targaryen It was absolutely the best year of my life (so far!) I would love to do it again. Even on my worst days, when I was hungry, dirty, tired and lost, I kept thinking “this still beats working for a living”.
@Trillian So you did shoe string budget style?
@Targaryen Pretty much. SE Asia is pretty cheap, so I was able to get private rooms in hostels and guesthouses, usually with my own bathroom. Only had to share rooms once I got to Europe (major sticker shock there!), which is why I didn’t spend as much time there.
This guy is the product of a team building exercise as part of management training. The premise was: you sit down at a desk with a bunch of people you don’t know and are given a bunch of items you can use to help with a task. The task was to make an aircraft that could transport your family a certain distance from a planet that you got abducted to. Ours was the coolest, although there is some cosmetic damage after the (very successful) flight, we aren’t getting probed any time soon.
@lichme Yay alien abduction probes can’t be too fun.
Here’s a shot of medication I take to stay on the grassy side of the dirt each day.
@therealjrn Glad you’re still here with us.
Balloon dogs are everything.
@heartny Interesting, are those balloon dog ornaments?
@Targaryen The ones on the wall are ornaments from Target. The small ones on the desk are figures from Dollar Tree and the big one from Home Goods.
@heartny When did you become a balloon dog person? Did it happen gradually? Did people start giving them to you as gifts and it just sorta became a reoccurring thing? Do you even remember how it all started?
@heartny oh man, i’m super here for this aesthetic
@heartny Did you see these on the WOOT appsclusive today? I thought of you right away
https://www.woot.com/offers/weekend-app-crap?utm_source=wootappatlanta&utm_medium=share
@llangley Yes! I saw it too late to get the blue one, but was able to snag the green one. Yay!
@heartny @llangley No purple?
This is Tiki-Guy. I made him about a dozen years ago and he’s been following me around ever since. Some of you dig kitties, some of you dig Gundham, some of you dig Kyôko Kirigiri (I get it ). I dig tikis. I have no idea why, I just do. I only have about two dozen, but I’m always on the hunt for suitable additions to the fam.
@ruouttaurmind I feel like you’d enjoy this: https://www.geekitikis.com
@Targaryen I have GT Groot, Squanchy, and Drogon.
@ruouttaurmind I love him.
@ruouttaurmind
I saw a large one in the desert awhile back.
@eonfifty That is one huge moai! Where is he lurking?
@ruouttaurmind
He’s at a bar in Tucson called The Hut. 32.225, -110.966
@eonfifty That’s only about 90 minutes from the house. Heck, that’s not even a full day trip.
Added to my list. Thanks!
@ruouttaurmind
@ruouttaurmind You made that? Cool! What’s he made out of?
@sammydog01 He’s poly-resin (Bondo, the stuff used to smooth dents in auto body work). Rolled into a cylinder, then carved into his rough shape with an Xacto while the resin was still pliable. Working quickly (before the resin hardener “kicks”) I used a fingernail orange stick to do the final shaping and texture to mimic wood. After the resin was fully set, I rubbed him down with walnut wood stain and used a cotton swab to clean up his teeth for that weathered bone look.
So mine is a blown glass paperweight that I made a few years ago. I had always wanted to try and a local shop was having an event
Of course that is my Stanley Cup Champion STL Blues lanyard in the background
@tinamarie1974 That’s pretty neat, do the black and yellow colors have any significance?
@Targaryen It is actually purple and gold. My high school colors
These are figures from My Hero Academia. I won most of them from Toreba. I just received the large one in yesterday’s mail so I had them together for a photo on my desk. Normally, one lives on a shelf above the computer and the others live on top of the fridge.
@tnhillbillygal I haven’t seen that but we have a bit of a burgeoning anime club here in the office. I bet @nommynoms @halfling or @feralrants might be interested in this.
@FeralRants @nommynoms @Targaryen @tnhillbillygal
first: that’s so incredibly cool. second: me and my bank account could have done without finding out what Toreba is… D;
@halfling Yeah, Toreba can be quite addictive. After you spend $10, they give you one free play a day so I try to stick with that as much as I can. I see posts in r/toreba and other pages where people spend hundreds in a few hours or overdraw their bank accounts due to poor self-control.
@tnhillbillygal poor self control. ;__; that’s me… I’ve tried really hard to stay away from fgo and things like that
@halfling @nommynoms @Targaryen @tnhillbillygal DUDES I AM HERE FOR THIS.
These are my favorite Art-O-Mat scores. And that’s my Ronin Happy Meal toy in the back, complete with machete. Chop chop.
@sammydog01 Did you know Ronin is a ninja?
@sammydog01 @therealjrn What ninja?
@sammydog01 @Targaryen Right?
Sick in bed for a few days now. This is Archie, keeping me company.
@moonhat Cute cat and hope you feel better soon!
@moonhat Aww. Hope you feel better soon. I also had a cat named Archie.
Nothing too interesting, just a headset rest I made for my son with scrap wood. Turns out it was a hair too short for his headset, so I use it for mine now.
@capguncowboy That’s pretty slick looking. What headset is he using? It looks like it should fit most anything?
Also nice rig in the background. What do you have?
@Targaryen He’s got a Corsair Void Pro (wireless) headset. The bottoms of the cans rested on the edge of the base and caused some distortion in the shape of the earpads.
My rig looks great, but isn’t anything too special.
Corsair Crystal Series 570X Tempered Glass Case
MSI B450 Gaming Pro AC Carbon (RGB)
Ryzen 1700X
32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3000 (RGB)
EVGA GTX 1070 8GB SC
2-2TB NVME SSD drives
I added a Corsair H100i (RGB) CPU cooler and some extra Corsair SP120 case fans, along with some IA LEDs that I can customize with different patterns and lighting through the MSI software interface. I’m pretty proud of it. The last picture was before I replaced the original cooler (the pump was dying).
It looks pretty but it’s a pain to keep it looking that way
@capguncowboy That’s a nice set up. I’m AMD guy as well. Hopefully my next purchase I’ll move into the Ryzen series now that the new series is out so a price drop should be coming.
@Targaryen Budget is one of the reasons I’ve stuck to AMD over the years. I was debating upgrading to the new chipsets, but I really don’t have a reason to. My son’s FX-8350 is still performing well, so no need for him to inherit this machine just yet. Maybe on the next series release.
@capguncowboy The most important thing in this photo are the Googly eyes
@capguncowboy sweet banana hanger
/image wooden banana hanger
@capguncowboy It kinda looks like it should have a noose hanging from it.
@lseeber I’m not saying that it ever did, but if so, maybe someone removed in case they ever investigate the disappearance of that GI Joe from a few years ago
@capguncowboy I know my bro in law hung my daughter’s baby beans once. He was babysitting and I came home and found her hanging from the ceiling in the hallway. Needless to say my daugther (4 at the time) was beside herself. Colluding with GI Joe no doubt.
I don’t know about interesting. It is to me. I use the smaller version for coffee on the go in the mornings and the larger one to keep myself hydrated every day. One of my current favorite meh purchases.
@therealjrn Those were pretty nice, good to see them getting some use.
@therealjrn I use mine for iced tea. All day every day.
Next to my favorite meh Contigo bottle, I have this tasty can of Monster Rehab. Why? Because I’ve slept a total of 7.5 hours the last two nights thanks to you all.
@cinoclav hhuuummm, I didn’t lose sleep last month. Who is keeping you up?
@tinamarie1974 I’d like to blame it on a who. It was a what. More specifically, a mehrathon.
@cinoclav oh you can only blame yourself for that one GoaT!
/giphy giggle
@tinamarie1974 I am and I’m paying for it today. But it was worth it.
On top of my desk sits my signed Harley Quinn comic (blank cover) that I had an artist hand draw a Suicide Squad cover for me. The back is also amazing. This sits next to my wOOt Deadpool light. On the other side of the desk is Ironman.
@mfladd That’s pretty awesome. I’m liking these desk set ups.
DIPLOMAT! RAT-A-TAT! FAT CAT! AWESOME!
Here’s a cool pouch I found to keep my medical meds organized! Designer is Laurel Bunch, lots of cat stuff on her site too…
@llangley love Laurel Birch! I have some of her earrings
@moonhat oops, you’re right. It’s Burch
https://laurelburchstudios.com/collections/all-products
Just some REALLY cool stuff here
@llangley oh man, such cute stuff! It all seems to cost an arm and a leg though, that’s a bummer. Not even a sale category. Sad.
This is what I see outside my office window.
@cengland0 They may be Canadian but they are NOT NICE
@cengland0 @nommynoms agree! I do not like those birds. Many stories from my college days that involves me being chased or dive bombed by those damn things.
@nommynoms They are nice to me. I don’t try to pick up their babies or anything like that though.
The geese are very protective even to other geese. None of the other geese are allowed to get close to those babies without being chased away.
@cengland0 Why do they look like they’re waiting for you?
@tinamarie1974 Dive bombed. Hehe, that’s funny. I can understand them chasing you on the ground but I’ve never seen that while they were flying.
Most of the time if you approach these geese, they walk away. If you run at them, they fly away.
@Targaryen
hehe. I think that time I had some cracked corn in my pocket.
Seriously though, they are smart. They know which properties they are allowed on. Some neighbors chase them away and others let them stay. So they know my house and the one next door is safe.
@cengland0 well I finally figured out that there was a nest very near the sidewalk. Damn birds would sit on top of one of the buildings and if you walked past the nest they would fly down at you. Or of they were on the ground they would chase you making a hissing noise.
I just took the long way around after I figured it out.
@cengland0 When I was delivering mail there was one house that had it’s backyard claimed by a pair of geese for their babies. So every time I got that route if I walked too close (25-30 feet maybe a little more) they’d come honking wings flapping at me from this alleyway between the two houses.
@Targaryen OMG. I knew you had to deliver mail in rain, sleet, and snow but it’s a little unfair to be attacked by birds every day.
As for me, I’m such a bird lover that it wouldn’t bother me. Geese don’t have teeth so they really can’t hurt you unless they jump on you and scratch you with their claws.
I have a conure in my office and he can be dangerous to other people besides me. He is very territorial so I must put him away before accepting any company. He will attack and bite people and goes for the eyes. He is very sweet but don’t get near him. You can tell by his beak that it can tear flesh unlike the goose bill that can’t.
@Targaryen Yup, that nest explains it. Have to stay away if they have eggs or babies.
@cengland0 Yeah they were bunked down for a bit that way so I just learned to move fast so they didn’t see me often. The color on the bird is nice.
@cengland0
@cengland0 @Targaryen
I have questions.
I had a Nanday Conure. Beautiful bird, but he was an ornery cuss, even to me.
@cengland0 @Targaryen They can peck your ankles pretty hard. When I ran a 5th grade school camp we had an attack duck (yeah I know not the same) who would sink if you threw him in water. He’d act like a demented goose and come running at your with his wings spread wide. Then go for your feet or ankles.
@Kidsandliz I’ve raised ducks from little babies and even hatched about 20 from eggs in my incubator. They can peck but they cannot hurt. My chickens could hurt you worse because of the pointed beak but geese and ducks are flat bill. The chickens were hand raised so they wouldn’t attack either even if you take their eggs.
Here’s a photo of two of my babies around Mrs. cengland0 who doesn’t usually like animals (including cats and dogs and my current conure) but she does like the ducks.
However, I have to state this again, their claws can be dangerous. I’ve had to rescue baby ducks from storm grates and have been attacked by the mommy as I was pulling them out. Scratched all over and pooped on but never bitten.
This injury is from my conure. If you’re holding something in your hand like car keys or your phone, he attacks your hands. We don’t know why. Otherwise he’s nice to me and Mrs. cengland0 but not company. He will attack anyone else but us.
Here are the contents in my backpack pocket.
Two World of Warcraft pins for the one for the Horde and the other the Alliance (Lion).
A keychain from London given to me by @CardiganB from her trip to London.
Irk and Glen stickers.
Deck of Uno cards in which after one game at lunch @ThomasF proclaimed “Never again.”
A copy of Reality is Broken By Jane McGonigal
@Targaryen oh I love Uno. I have Uno Attack. Lots of mindless fun!
@Targaryen Eclectic! Was the London keychain imported from an Asian land?
@tinamarie1974 I want to remember to buy the Dos game they now have at target which is the… sequel?
@Targaryen I first read that as “back pocket” and thought that was a lot to come out of your back pocket. I then re-read your text and said to myself, “Oh, okay.”
@Targaryen I SAW that and have been wanting to try it as well. Have not yet made the purchase.
@therealjrn Most likely China does a lot of the touristy stuff like this these days. Used to work with a buddy who imported this stuff and sold it on Amazon. You can get damn near anything from China and fairly cheaply.
All the same though I appreciate the sentiment of someone bringing me a gift of course.
@cengland0 If I’m keeping that in my back pocket I’m doing something wrong lol.
@Targaryen Of course! It DID come from London after all!
@Targaryen Half Price clearance, nice.
@halfling is lending me medomai
@ThomasF Going to be playing some Magic at lunch I assume?
My desk at work is pretty boring now. Having four displays is about the only cool part about it.
Bonus: The headset I got in a fuku years ago. It has been dropped over a hundred times and still functions (albeit with a little scotch tape holding it together).
This is one of two incense holders I made from a length of 4 or 5 inch diameter copper pipe.
Here’s everything of note currently on my desk.
@metaphore I see what you
noteddid there.@metaphore I thought for a second that was Vincent Price on a dollar bill.
This strange beast showed up last week, and has taken over.
The clutter^H^H^H^H^H^H^H collection above my monitors.
@blaineg SPHEROS!
@sammydog01 Yep, there are more elsewhere as well.
@blaineg The red car is the Hot Wheels version of the Tesla Roadster that was launched, with Spaceman in the driver’s seat.
There’s even a Tesla Hot Wheels molded into the dash of the Tesla Hot Wheels.

$900+ dollar Audi exhaust. Someone ordered the wrong part. Audi doesn’t take returns. It has lived in my office for over a year now.
[1]:
@evilstan60 Ouch, expensive error.
@evilstan60
@cinoclav we’re saving it for the next time we need one. Not my decision. It’s unlikely we need one again. I’m not going to worry about it. It is office decoration now.
@evilstan60 That’d be enough to keep me from ever buying another Audi.
@lseeber no my Audi. It’s for work. Not my money. I don’t really care about it too much. Though there are many many reasons not to buy an Audi.
Oh right,
@ThomasF I’m not sure what it is (I’m old ) but it looks complicated and very cool. Who’s the lurker?
@llangley https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gundam
and @Targaryen
@Targaryen @ThomasF aha!!! I had no idea. I’m familiar with Transformers and have watched a bunch of DBZ but that’s it.
And, hi @Targaryen…another face of Meh
@llangley @ThomasF Nice to meet you. Come by more often. During the summer when we generally have more free time we can interact with people more.
My desk is not pretty enough to show and tell.
@LordSalem Well, is it messy enough for you to show and then we tell you about it?
I’ve been carrying this copy of Sexual Astrology around in my bag for a month to give to a former coworker, but she never visits work when I’m scheduled. I’m sure it’s not on purpose, but I kind of feel like it might be?
This is actually the picture I texted her.
@mossygreen
/giphy gigigty
So, I haven’t found my desk due to all of the junk and crap on and surrounding it. My bag is full of kleenex because for some reason or another I have allergies this year (wtf?).
I’ll keep looking for something interesting.
I, apparently, have an unusual printer (actually the printer part is broken so I only use the scanner part; the printer that works is the 1992 one on the bottom where the paper tray is propped up by notebooks) but look what it made me. Cool huh. Hoping the make shift shelves continue to be up to 10 pounds of football player cat (this is feral kitty I stole from the parking lot at 5 mo) that takes a flying leap up there making everything shake.
@Kidsandliz Feral Kitty looks like they’re pretty happy that you swiped them from the parking lot! Lucky kitty
@moonhat Yup she is a happy cat. She’s about 14 mo at this point in time. Takes time to warm up to strangers but she has a loud purr, is a lap cat and likes sleeping on my feet or against my leg. Soft as a rabbit.
@Kidsandliz aww. She sounds wonderful.
