Ugh, I really want this, but I don’t need it. My other Shark vacuum is fine and probably works better on the massive amounts of pet hair around here. I’d love to see how it handles these shed monsters, though.
@Thumperchick Right? My Shark isn’t that old, but I did notice a small hole in the hose down at the base which has been affecting suction. It’ll be pretty easy to fix with some duct tape though, so I still can’t use it to justify buying a new (cheaper) vacuum.
Thanks! The bigger one on the right is six months old.
@LaVikinga@mtb002@Viper1 The one on the right is an Irish Wolfhound puppy. He was exactly six months old in that photo (taken on the 2nd of this month.) The one on the left is an Irish Wolfhound/Golden Retriever cross. Purebred parents and an accidental litter. He’s 2 1/2 years old. They don’t let me get standing photos together often, so it’s hard to show their heights, but this was taken three weeks ago.
They are beauties. I would’ve loved to have one, but had to settle for smaller dogs I can physically control: Non-so-miniature Aussies. Mine run between 35-40lbs and are small enough I can scoop them up to move them if necessary, but large enough to make strangers at the door realize LoudProtectorDogsTeeth live here.
Mine do more shedding and barking at stray leaves/visiting ducks, than anything else.
I just knew this would be coming back soon. I purchased this vacuum the last time around and was the only person who came back on the product page to say ANYTHING about it…weird.
I love this vacuum! The swivel head glides smoothly. It does a fantastic job of sucking up anything in it’s path.
I also like that it folds for storage since I am limited with storage space. Some people complained that when extended it cannot stand up on it’s own - I could care fucking less about that. It also has a very long cord which minimizes how many times you have to move it around.
Add in a nice selection of attachments and this is a very solid vacuum.
This product receives the “Dark GoaT Seal of Approval”!
EDIT: I didn’t get that fucking motorized pet tool!!!
I want that attachment!!!
@mfladd That’s the one thing I dislike about Sharks. They tip over so easily! They make great vacuums; I just wish they could figure out that part of it since it makes cleaning stairs super fun if you have balance issues, too.
@hutchnow When fully extended it can’t stand up at all. But to answer your question it will fall backwards due to motor placement. It just doesn’t bother me that it doesn’t stand up because of how light it is.
@mfladd The last model we sold was the HV391, which came with an under-appliance wand. This here is the HV392, which replaces the under-appliance wand with the motorized pet tool (and has a bronze-ish finish vs gold)
@troy Got it…for a minute I thought you were throwing in extras second time around.
Tough call for which one I would want more since my dog doesn’t shed. If he did I would take the pet tool. A motorized accessory is nice. The under-wand is a little thick to actually go under the appliances. Still comes in handy for under the couch and such.
@mfladd@troy Your confusion makes complete sense in light of the fact that the Amazon price comparison link is to the HV391 (the one you purchased in previous deal) and notes that the Amazon price is without the motorized pet attachment.
@mfladd I bought the 391 last time also, and it does a great job and much more portable than the old Kenmore canister, but now I want that motorized pet tool, too!
But with the Roomba, we’re already above the national average for vacuums (and that makes it really hard to breathe here)
/giphy average vacuum
@stolicat I was hesitating to pull the trigger partially because my current “regular” vacuum is a Shark Navigator (have had for a king time, maybe a decade or more, no problems if that speaks to anyone’s curiosity about the reliability of Shark products) that came with a deluxe attachment set that includes the motorized pet attachment, so it feels like a waste to buy something that includes another (though realizing that any sort of price differential to one without it is probably negligible, certainly less than the Meh savings in this one).
Now you have me thinking about the national average for vacuums, and the fact that in addition to my functioning Navigator, I have a stick vac, a Roomba, a shampooer, a spot removal wet hand vac and a regular hand vac for a 2.5 bed apartment (and one smallish dog). I think you may have shown me the light, lol.
@sammydog01 I would not be able to compare for you since I have never had a cannister vac. It was an excellent purchase for me. The biggest thing to remember is that this is not a full size vacuum, and has a smallish dust canister. But it is easy to empty - just like a dyson. For my small home it is easily a full vacuum. It also is very light and easy to move around and store. I am very happy with it.
Yup, if you have a decent sized home, shedding animals, and don’t vacuum much, the collection bin size might annoy you. But if you wanted something for between those major cleanings, or have some rooms that really need to be done more often - this is where this would come in - not having to haul the big canister out. You may have very well found something you don’t need for once, which frees up more monies for the motorized robot army you are collecting
@lasdeauna or maybe people with larger houses that they treat as separate cleaning units, like an upstairs shark and a main floor shark and a garage shark (and a pool shark?). Probably have separate trash cans and dust pans and cleaning supplies and extra bulbs and batteries (with storage fridge) in each area, all with little labels on them so they don’t get mixed up. I probably just insulted someone …
@lasdeauna@troy@therealjrn There is a precedence though. Back when I bought my Toshiba 2 chromebook here- it sold out quickly. @snapster actually cancelled many of the orders from resellers and put them back up for sale. It is from the stock that was put back into the system that I got mine.
edit: at least I think it was for the chromebook. I am trying to find the thread. But I do know that the octopus has punished resellers in the past
I was not able find the thread I was looking for but I did find that for some previous sales of the chromebook the buying limit was set to 1. Which some people were bitching about
< 1 pint of collection sounds like a horrible flaw. I have a multi-pet household, and we fill much more than that every week. Maybe I’m missing something in the description… we’re looking for a strong-but-light option to make vacuuming stairs easier (but more effective than the hand-held Shark), but I’m not sure if this is the fix.
Beyond that, how prone are the hose and the break-down joint to breakage?
@earmstrong I have only had mine for a short time so it is difficult to speak to the durability of the joint. But I will say at first I was a little concerned about it. But after using it for awhile and constantly folding it I am not really concerned anymore. It seems pretty solid around that area.
You are right about the container being on the smaller size, but I will say that removing and emptying it is a very quick and easy process.
I also have a small home and a dog that doesn’t shed. So a tough call in that dept.
I have been very happy with this vacuum - and it is far more impressive than my over-rated Dyson cordless that I have relegated to handheld spot pick-up service now.
Just remember this is not supposed to be a full sized vacuum.
@earmstrong i have the last dhark they sold, which is pretty much the same thing but without the fold. I use it as my primary vacuum with two sheddy pets, and it works really well, you just have to empty the canister more often. It’s very easy and quick to empty though.
If you’re looking for a stair specific vacuum, i think that’s the thing it does the least well. The heads are too big to get in the stair crease, so you have too use it as a handheld and the motor bit is pretty heavy for that.
I own the HV 392 & love it. It weughs less than 10 lbs & suction is gr8!Ordered it the last time MEH offered it. I also have another one I ordered from Meh but it weighs 14 lbs. I love both… Think the hv392 is awesome. No problems with anything on either one.
