Working every other week… just like the other 11 months. In fact I showed up today (Friday) for a 1500 to 2300 shift, and discovered I had been scheduled to work overnight as well (2300-0700) .
Can you say SURPRISE
/giphy surprise!
@aetris our current scheduler SUX. One of the other nurses had mentioned I might be willing to do the double… but do you think that the scheduler would have contacted ME? Hell No…
I called her when I got to work and told her in no uncertain terms to NEVER change my schedule without letting me know/clearing it first, It’s a lucky thing I like my job and the people I work with (and over all, the patients…) or I would have told them to stick it and headed to the house at my regular time.
@aetris@fuzzalini… so, got thru it (relatively) unscathed.
worked 16 hours
off less than 8 hours
worked 8 hours then at the end of the shift the ER was a shitshow…
so didn’t leave for another 4 hours because …
/giphy just another day in paradise.
@Fuzzalini thanks for that… I actually truly enjoy my work and those last 4 hours flew by due to the (real) emergencies we had… Thankfully I live about 5 minutes from the hospital. Once I got home I fell asleep about 4 times trying to read just one page of the newspaper (the comics at that!) finally gave up and hit the sack at 0400.
Golfing! Despite the temperatures in the 30s and 40s. This is Florida for crying out loud! @pony where the hell do you live that you have such nice weather?
@Mehrocco_Mole@RiotDemon Sigh. I’m jealous. So jealous. It’s in the teens here (with the windchill). It’s been a wild ride too. The first week of October it was in the 90s and now we’re in the middle of an arctic blast. Not sure what happened to fall.
@Mehrocco_Mole@RiotDemon LOL. Pensacola is “up north” as far as I’m concerned! Not even in the same friggin time zone for crying out loud!! Greetings from Tampa
I must say I feel bad for all of you freezing folks. I don’t know how you do it!! I’d be curled up in a pitiful ball in a corner somewhere…I hate being cold!
Well, I’m narcoleptic (legit diagnosis), so hibernation is a year round event that intensifies with lack of sunlight (even rainy days drain me like an overused battery).
@chienfou Believe it or not, my insomnia was a major reason why I didn’t even consider that I might have narcolepsy despite a lifetime of extreme fatigue (think having a newborn waking you up throughout the night, every night of your life because that’s basically how narcolepsy works) and cataplexy (the total loss of muscle use-like fainting goats, but without the ‘faint’, just the crumble). I haven’t had insomnia for some time now (up late because of my rigid sleep schedule and sleep med that makes my body go through the stages of sleep properly, knocks me out), but every once and while, when the anxiety flairs, insomnia kicks in. The actual diagnosis is narcolepsy with cataplexy and secondary insomnia. Ha! So you’re right!
@Gypsigirl213 I forget which mehmber it was, but someone here added led lighting to the top of their window frames to combat seasonal depression. It made it look like the sun was out longer. I wonder if something like that would help in your case.
@tinamarie1974 To be pedantic, it’s SATURNDAY! You know, the day to celebrate the god Saturn, the jolly old deity who is best remembered for eating his children.
(But I like your version better.)
the same as any other saturday the rest of the year, whatever we feel like. usually starts off with sleeping in followed by an ice coffee & ice tea run, i might make a nice breakfast or i might just grab bagels or donuts when i grab the drinks. sometimes we’ll go to the comic book store or visit family, or we might just sit around at home. partner just set up a new playstation last night so i’m guessing today will be the latter - he’ll game and i’ll do some crosswords before getting into my own game. (i was recently accepted into in an alpha for eleven giants, a recreation of the now defunct glitch the game). at some point i’ll make dinner, or we may take a ride over to chipotle and get burrito bowls. he’ll stay up late and i’ll retire early and probably fall asleep while attempting to catch up on whatever show(s) i’m watching solo.
of course if there’s a bruins game (not tonight but in general on a saturday) we’ll be watching that. he’s also on call this week so fingers crossed he’s not bothered by work.
For my boyfriend it’s football while he yells at tv and I keep asking every hour or so “are you talking to me” it’s so annoying. I do something useful like read, make crafts for my Santa shops, cook, or clean. When I’m bored I’ll go stand in front of the tv and mess with him lol
Football, for sure! Hibernation won’t start until mid-winter.
(But I’ve got the feeling that football didn’t get many of the ladies’ votes here. In fact, I’d wager that Trump got more of the feminine vote than football did.)
I have to work today because the first (of many) clients who dragged their feet in their Windows 7 to 10 upgrades needs me to come out and do a bunch of machines at the same time. I have to move December 1, so I think all my other weekends will be spent packing.
Complaining that it’s still 80+ fucking degrees in November and why the hell did we move here?!
@Pony You could be here today.

BTW… I am due back at 1500 tomorrow still…
@chienfou Double shifts? That’s no fun.
@chienfou - was that a scheduling screwup on someone’s part? Scheduling is an art some supervisors never seem to master.

@chienfou - That is seriously fucked up.
@aetris yep… another day in the life…
@aetris @fuzzalini… so, got thru it (relatively) unscathed.

@chienfou I want to thank you for doing one of the most thankless jobs. The world needs more nurses and you are my hero.

Camping! It’s finally cool enough.
@PocketBrain yep. That’s what I came here to say. Headed to Kissimmee tonight for some camping and star gazing.
Work.

Preparing the home (and yard) for the onslaught of family.
Golfing! Despite the temperatures in the 30s and 40s. This is Florida for crying out loud! @pony where the hell do you live that you have such nice weather?
@Mehrocco_Mole where in Florida are you that you are having 30/40 degree weather already?? It was 80 something today!
@Mehrocco_Mole Nice? NICE? Ugh. Not in November, it isn’t. I live in Hollister, CA.
@Mehrocco_Mole @RiotDemon Sigh. I’m jealous. So jealous. It’s in the teens here (with the windchill). It’s been a wild ride too. The first week of October it was in the 90s and now we’re in the middle of an arctic blast. Not sure what happened to fall.

@Gypsigirl213 Bummer… surprised you are up at this time of the nite… What a dilemma… an insomniac narcoleptic!

We do the same thing we do every month. Work, play, recover from both.
Anything I want because it is SATIRDAY!!! Aaahhhhhh
@tinamarie1974 To be pedantic, it’s SATURNDAY! You know, the day to celebrate the god Saturn, the jolly old deity who is best remembered for eating his children.
(But I like your version better.)
@macromeh yeah and I fatfingered SATURDAY on my phone.
@macromeh @tinamarie1974 - Or - why not SATIREday?
@tinamarie1974 Oh, I thought you meant SATYRDAY, which seemed ahem fairly in character.

@cinoclav bring it on Nov 23rd: OH-IO
@seraphimcaduto Yeah, pretty sure Ohio will win that one but it should be a good one.
Football, for sure! Hibernation won’t start until mid-winter.

@phendrick FWIW he is due to be at the Alabama/LSU game tomorrow… It’ll be interesting to see the reception he gets locally.
/giphy nailed it!
Planning for Black Friday, knowing damn well I’m not stepping into any stores.
Work…

Desperately scrambling to put on theater productions.
Apparently for cleaning out and organizing my garage…
