Reason for the Season
5It’s like the Holidays opening day weekend. Anything after Thanksgiving up until now was pre-season. Lots of town events, town tree lightings, bazaars and more happening.
What are you looking forward to visiting this weekend to kick off the season?

Our town is having some kind of Christmas thing today on Main Street. They are closing the street down and vendors are setting up to sell their wares. One of my kiddos is singing with the childrens’ choir on the courthouse lawn. It is all supposed to lead up to them lighting the town Christmas tree. It is rainy and dreary so I don’t know how much of a turnout they are going to have.
@tnhillbillygal That wouldn’t stop Rudolph.
@Targaryen
Here is our town’s wonky Christmas tree on the courthouse lawn. There was a big countdown and everything, lol. (I don’t know why the photo is sideways. I checked the image file and it is right side up there.)
My nephew’s birthday.
The Christmas parade with big balloons and everything is tomorrow morning. The Grand Marshall is Snoopy. It’s gonna rain. I’ll watch it on TV.
The Regal Cinemas Holiday Classics series starts tomorrow- The Polar Express. I’m excited. No one else is. I have an extra ticket if anyone wants to come. I’ll buy the popcorn too.
@sammydog01 Whaaa? You’re giving away MY ticket?
@sammydog01 If you have an Alamo Drafthouse near you they run some pretty awesome Holiday movie events like “Elf movie party” and they throw snowballs at each other in the theater and such.
@Barney You said the drive was too far!
@Targaryen It’s over an hour away. Elf is on our line-up although it’s probably just people sitting there eating discount popcorn.
@sammydog01 Geez, I even bought matching T-shirts… grumble, grumble, grumble
@sammydog01 Well –
I’ll just stay home and pout.
@Barney Maybe you can pick up the DVD and watch it at the same time? Which shirts are we wearing tomorrow?
@sammydog01 Aw, that’s alright, I don’t really like that movie (kicks a stone). And besides I don’t have my shirts yet.
@Barney Mine came today- that Van Gogh one is really pretty.
@sammydog01 Mine haven’t even been mailed.
@sammydog01 @Targaryen I love Elf!
@Targaryen I convinced my adult daughter to go see The Polar Express with me. After the part with the creepy ghost operating the scary marionettes she whispered to me “I know why I didn’t like this movie as a kid- it’s terrifying”. So true.
@sammydog01 now I really wanna see it.
I’m stuck work today.
Not season-related but they’re trying to beautify the cruise ship terminal in Tampa. Converted some shipping containers and made eateries, etc. Sparkman Wharf opened today, finally warmed up to 70 so I went outside!
Got some grilled oysters, Nori fries with a garlic aioli (fucking awesome!!), and The Basil Hayden Old Fashioned…
@llangley that all looks quite yummy
Ocean City Festival of Lights
@mfladd ocean city which, I mean where?
@PhysAssist Ocean City, MD
@mfladd So pretty.
@mfladd That’s gorgeous!
@mfladd Thanks, I’ve been there after the summer season, but not this late in the year, so I never saw this. We were visiting my friends, who live[d] in Salisbury.
There’s a small holiday craft fair type thingie tomorrow that I kind of wanted to go to, but hubby needs to spend the weekend working on the new chicken coop. I can’t complain, because we really do need that coop finished asap. The pen we have the hens in isn’t keeping things dry/warm enough, and I’d like to get the chicks out of the living room (yes, we’re keeping chickens in the living room) the minute they’re outdoor ready. I think all of the craft shows and such in our little town are pretty tiny anyway, so I’m probably not missing out on much.
My husband’s work is having a disco-themed holiday party Saturday night. I love that funky 70’s style and I’m looking forward to it, man!
@moonhat Ooooh that’s awesome! The only theme I love more than 70’s-80’s rock is Disco!
Nothing. Not even putting up a tree this yr. I’m still sorting thru stuff and setting up a new home since moving. My husband passed and my kids/grands moved away. I will bake and shop somewhere along the line.
@lseeber I’m so sorry for your loss.
@lseeber So sorry. Condolences on your loss. May peace find you along the way on this new journey.
@Pony Thank you.
@mfladd Thank you. I’m adjusting.
Today we are going on a walking tour of beautifully decorated houses.
Every year my home town builds a giant wooden Phoenix then has a festival with lots of drums to burn it down. Not sure if it qualifies as holiday but that’s where I’ll be next weekend.
@callow that Phoenix is cool
Good December Morning to you all!
It’s advent calendar day. One kid got a Lego City calendar and I got a minion one. The other kid just wanted chocolate. Maybe we’re not related.
Dec 1:
@sammydog01 So are you confirming you are in fact a “kid”?
@Targaryen Nope, just immature.
@sammydog01 for the people that liked it last year, Ashens on YouTube is opening calendars again.

I got a chocolate one from Aldi. Haven’t opened it yet. Tonight.
@RiotDemon I watched that today!
@sammydog01 we have a Lego Advent calendar too!!! The kids love them! I do too, probably more than they do
Happy first day of Hanukkah!
Yesterday was the Natchitoches Christmas Festival. You might know it from Steel Magnolias if you’re not one of those kids who was trying to not learn math. The little town has many thousands of visitors and my aunt’s house has many dozens.
