I am equally as much of a flashlight dork as I am a knife dork. I’d be into this if it was usb rechargable. I’m going to pass for now in hopes that I get thirty-threeve of these in my pending IRK. It’s important to set goals!
@capnjb I like that it uses four AA cells rather than three. That means it is likely to work ok on NiMH rechargeables. USB rechargeable isn’t so great, since it means you can’t just swap in fresh batteries when the ones in the unit start going flat.
@phr Many of my flashlights are powered by Anker 18650 3.6V batteries and are chargeable by USB. I also have a mountain of power banks, 3 big EcoFlow Delta’s and 550W of solar. AA’s are nice, and I have a billion, but I prefer less swapping and more plug and charge. I’m also old and grumpy so that is probably the main driver
These are not the same as the ones over on Side Deal that were the same price. But they have superficially similar specs, except…
The SideDeal version is small, about half the size of the commonly-sold similar units (see photo).
The SideDeal version uses either three (NOT 4) AAA batteries or one 18650 for power, and no batteries are included. (I have the three-battery AAA holder as proof, see photo.)
The SideDeal version has a micro-USB jack and pitifully short, dainty cable to recharge the 18650, but do not count on recharging your Eneloops in their little three-cell holder without damaging them. In fact, don’t try.

The smallest one is the Qbeam.

One thing that both have in common, though…
They do not have a magnet on the back, so you can’t store them on the side of the fridge or microwave for easy grabbing when the lights drop out, nor can you stick them to the underside of a vehicle’s hood…wait, why isn’t that working with the other two? DAMMIT, WHO THOUGHT ALUMINUM BELONGED THERE???
OBTW, for reference, I would not count on that 500-lumen output claim. The smaller one from SideDeal said it had that much as well, but the illumination is not all that dramatically higher than the even smaller, similar-emitter-design one that Harbor Freight uses as a gimme once in a while.
One of my non-regrets! It’s been very handy during blackouts, like the 4 days after the 2020 derecho.
Though this may have been in an IRK.

@capnjb @phr O&GFTW!
@phr @werehatrack I don’t know what that means but I like the cut of your jib.
edit - Wait… I did the math and am picking up what you’re laying down. FTW.

Corrections: The SD ones were pricier ($19), claimed 600 lumens (nope), and were a different brand (3P Experts).
But if the recharge-in-place feature matters to you, they might be worth it - maybe. Maybe not.
