Prices ending in .99?
12I scrolled and didn’t see any other threads addressing this, so I’m making one. Can you guys inform us as to why the recent decision was made to stop using whole numbers for dollar amounts? I assume there is a good reason for it…but what is it? Just wondering.

I think @PoolToyWolf is hoping that someone employed by Meh or even @Snapster himself will explain…
that’s what I’d like to see.
@Kyeh
This falls somewhere in the middle of 0.99 prices and gas stations with X.xx5 prices for gas. Seems like a money grab. I’d happily pay the one cent to normalize things.
In fact… I’m willing to send woot a $100.99 bill to cover… oh wait… sorry… a $100 dollar bill to cover the next TEN THOUSAND purchases to round up one freaking cent. I’ll also throw in a vintage D&D campaign… because it seems that that is what I do
Please make them go away. Give us back our whole number pricing.
“If the price on your site ends in .99, I assume you think your customers are idiots.” 2014. https://meh.com/forum/topics/meh-experiment-variables-pricing
99 cent survey from 2017. https://meh.com/forum/topics/what-do-you-think-about-prices-that-end-in--99-like-4-99
It’s been kvetched about in several places. One of the earliest was here

but even there there were links to some earlier comments.
Most likely answer to your question though has been pointed out to be
Marketing.
99CentMeh is one step closer to Yet Another Interchangeable Online Sales Site. It devalues the part of the Meh branding that the even dollar amounts had provided. And at this point, someone with the chops to fix it needs to take a long hard look at what’s been eroded from that brand - which is most of the fun - and decide whether there’s enough left to save, and how to bring back what’s been lost.
I concur, the whole xx.99 thing just kinda just cheapens the Meh experience further…kinda feels almost like they’ve been bought out by WalWart?
Part of the draw, for me, was how it’s different, went against the grain and called out nonsense such as the xx.99 gimmick.
We have an impressive collection of Meh shirts and wear them often…get asked about them just about as often…and I have to admit, other than "IRKs ARE AWESOME-N-FUN!! (now with less-frequent awesomeness tho. ™ ), I’ve found it difficult to find words to explain why it’s awesome to folks.
I really do miss the days of the $5 nearly obsolete speaker dock followed by the $600 custom Japanese knife sets.
Maybe it just ultimately wasn’t a sustainable model and we at least got to experience the best of it (Sears Appliances/Craftsman tools anyone?)…or, just the unique buy-out sources dried up…or, purchasing folks just took the company motto to heart, went “Meh.” /shrug and weren’t trying as hard because it wasn’t the new shiny thing anymore. Or, Step 1. Step 2. ??? Step 3. Profit.
That being said, I’m still a fan, even though I don’t get to forum much…heck, just got the tattoo (although, was unaware of the no 2nd IRK thing if I was able to snag one legally…which, is kinda bogus…I mean, we perm tattoed your shit on our skin man).
I know @snapster is back and Meh. is undergoing changes…here’s hoping it can start to trend back to the OG Meh, or meld it with something new (but NOT the .99 thing…I mean, comon, get that textbook MBA dude outta there)…but, sometimes it just isn’t gonna happen. If so, I still don’t have plans to bolt anytime soon b/c you guys are all awesome!! (you too mediocrebot)

POPSOCKETS! SPROCKETS! DAVY CROCKETT! AWESOME!
I see these propagated all over to sidedeal and morningsave too.
I’m also not a fan and would be willing to contribute a small amount if things could be put back as they were.
Casemates has the .99’s, but then it always has.
.99?
/giphy do not want
Make us just pay a lot like the expensive restaurants that only list whole numbers. That always start at 20-40.
Of course that’s almost every restaurant now…
Why not a random number of pennies from 50 cents to 99 cents each day? Could your payment systems handle that?
And this would be more complicated but how about 1 in every x (1000?) purchases generates an “IRK UNLOCK” that allows users to buy an IRK?
It’s psychology. I remember reading about it in college about half a century ago. In a person’s head, $14.99 seems like a much better deal than $15.00.
@IAMIS Even more reason not to do it; subvert the damn dominant paradigm!
