In this particular case I really want to see reviews of the actual product, not hand picked allegedly “similar” that are good. I bought, a set of phone camera lenses from meh and they were beyond horrible with respect to focus, not to mention one (luckily in the end) was broken (so I was refunded the $5 due to the broken lens). I was really disappointed about that. I couldn’t find any reviews anywhere of these.
Hey meh maybe you can open a box, take some photos with them and post those?
@Kidsandliz The amazon kit is the exact same thing, just rebranded like a lot of knockoff junk that ends up on that site. The positive 5-star reviews are most likely bots. Dig through the 1-star reviews and you’ll get some honestly disappointed opinions with a handful of pictures showing off the obvious shortcomings of slapping a massive lens onto a cellphone.
Basically, the macro lens is mildly useful provided you have a tripod to hold it still, and the lens doesn’t slide off whatever camera bulge your phone is packing. The wide angle lens just looks kinda crappy as the extra angle you get for the shot is fisheye’d to hell.
@Kidsandliz@silverel
Sounds similar to the results I got with a clip-on lens to convert the phone to a microscope. Yes, it sort of worked. Sort of. The image had chroma issues all over the place, it was a circle that just barely reached the sides of the screen, and “focus” was mostly an aspiration, not a capability.
They currently offer ahe scopes pre-assembled. Mine was in kit form (punch out, fold, stick things together). It is still sitting on my coffee table, still in kit form.
The write-up today says users are getting the most from the cameras on their phones. I am reminded of laws passed forbidding cameras on phones being used in public bathrooms. Maybe we should rethink the whole phone camera thing.
@hchavers@mike808 It took my company many years but they finally relented and said we could have phones with cameras (likely when the company phones they give to some all had cameras). We’re not allowed to use the cameras onsite and in some areas you have to leave your phone (and pretty much anything else electronic except your old-school digital watch) in a cubby/lockbox outside the room.
So I definitely brain-farted and thought this would be including a zoom lens. Does anyone know of a zoom lens that will use this mount? I’d rather not have to carry around double the kits if possible.
Will it make my phone run Doom better?
@werehatrack Not only Doom, but it will run Crysis!
Ah yes, when you count the lens caps and carrying strap as pieces.
@ohhwell Yes! Just like floor mats are “options” in a new car…
Who needs a “lens kit” when they approach a urinal with “the power to go”?
@OnionSoup You, apparently, are not as old as some of us!
The Glen pic looks vaguely pornographic because the teeth got cropped…
@werehatrack Eh…
OH MY GOD THEY CAPTURED GLEN!!!
@shahnm YOU BASTARDS!
I bought something similar about 3-4 years ago.
I have never, ever felt the inspiration or even the urge to use it.
Lens flare to the rescue!!

@silverel @werehatrack Thank you for your review.
@Kidsandliz @silverel @werehatrack Focus is also more of an aspiration than capability of myself.
@Kidsandliz @silverel @werehatrack Check out these guys: Foldscope. It is a well reviewed, folded paper (cardboard) microscope which comes woth a phone coupler.

Someday . . .

That’s so cool! Great birthday present possibilities…

What is this? A thing for SINGLE LENS CAMERA PHONES?

@hchavers I am reminded of company policies that forbid employee BYOD phones with cameras and I don’t think they make those anymore.

Are there even any phones anymore with single lens cameras?
@Perfect_Timing “Compatible with most smartphones and tablets, including multi-lens camera”
@Perfect_Timing I use a similar style telephoto lens on my multi lens phone. You just have to know which lens does what and line it up.
@Perfect_Timing The Pixel 4a (https://store.google.com/us/product/pixel_4a) is still around, and its single-lens camera has always had excellent reviews (e.g., https://www.dxomark.com/google-pixel-4a-camera-review-excellent-single-camera-smartphone).
Full disclosure: I own one.
Fuller disclosure: I rarely take pictures.
@Perfect_Timing My Moto G4 has a single lens. Just put a new battery in it yesterday. It still works great for what I use it for.
@Perfect_Timing My Galaxy S8+ still exists and I’m using it now, so yes.
So I definitely brain-farted and thought this would be including a zoom lens. Does anyone know of a zoom lens that will use this mount? I’d rather not have to carry around double the kits if possible.
