Saw this really neat mailbox around the corner from where I was staying in Hollywood FL (in a bunkbed cheap airbnb) so had to take a photo. If you have seen some interesting ones post them here.
@djslack yeah… that’s a good question. Gotta admit, I do admire the ‘recycling’ though.
Locally the recycle center said they couldn’t recycle those buckets (not sure if it was the type of plastic or if it was the fear that they might have been filled with used cat litter at some point). I got them to save them for me and I use them to catch rainwater off the drip edge of the shop lean-to. I can snap on the lids once they are full and then use them to water the garden without risk of mosquito swarms. They also make good tomato or eggplant planters if you make a few holes in the bottoms with a 1" spade bit.
I have dozens of them in (either) use at the present time.
@Gypsigirl213 I’m in Florida and don’t have any mail theft problems. I installed the alarm to beep in the house and flash a light that is reset with the push of a button. That alerts me to when the mailman has been here already so I can go outside to check the mail. No need to check if the light isn’t flashing.
That particular camera you can see in the photo is facing the house so you cannot see anyone tampering with the mailbox. However, I do have more cameras and the following one will pick up anyone nearby the mailbox with a time and date stamp if I need it for prosecution purposes.
And this is what I can see from the camera mounted on the mailbox. I use it many times to verify I closed my garage door while I’m away from home.
I also did one more recently for a friends mom, who moved to Alaska several years back, but also keeps a place down here…
This still needs a little touch up work, but she loves it anyway…
Our current box, at a previous home. There’s a metal sculptress in PA that does amazing fucking things, this was a one-off we were lucky enough to score a few years back.
I don’t have a picture because the owner was forced to take his down by the village; standard metal mailbox welded on to the snout of a big diesel engine crankshaft that served as its post. The flange end was bolted down to a concrete pad. They said it would do too much damage if someone were to hit it with a car. Which was, of course, at least part of the point…

Not too cool but I have a rain gauge, 1080p CCTV camera, and other wiring to set off alarms in the house if the mailbox is opened.
For the wiring, I had to dig a 60’ trench all the way to my house and lay down PVC. Wasn’t fun.
@cengland0 We need something like this in Nashville. Mail theft here is out of control. It’s a new problem here. Is it an issue where you live?

a Few Years ago, my brother bought a house near home, and was moving back to NWBuckeyeland from TX.
Purple is his fav. color, and he’s a bit of a Mopar fan, so I painted up a Plum Crazy Mailbox, with a White Bumblebee Stripe…
the only change from that was to add a small Mopar Decal in the stripe.
