These things are considered by many knowledgeable dentists & the American Dental Association to be the single greatest dental care device since the invention of the toothbrush.
Seriously.
It may even be more important than the toothbrush itself, in some ways. Phillips doesn’t advertise it because of the cost of having to prove any claims, but many smaller studies by dentists show amazing results in reducing cavities & I proving gum health.
It is able to kill germs even below the gumline. My dentist can tell with a two second glance at my mouth if I’ve been using it regularly or not.
You can fill it with just water, mouthwash or a mix of both.
I’m buying two more so my kids can each have their own, instead of just havin their own tips for the device.
Fuck it. I’m taking a chance on it. Between braces and dental stuff it’s very hard to get floss in between my teeth. Since I’ve changed to a sonic style toothbrush my gum health has increased a ton. I hope this brings me the rest of the way.
Well, I get the reviews. The airfloss works great. The refill mechanism did not. I called Phillips direct and they are mailing me a new airfloss. My unit came with a registration card that says a 2.5 year warranty so I’m not too worried about the future.
I’m curious if my new airfloss is going to come with the nozzles or just the handle. I guess I’ll find out next week or so. I got an order confirmation as soon as I hung up the phone. That was a fun conversation while I have laryngitis.
I love my sonicare… but the reviews on these things really indicates a high failure rate within the first 4 months. Still tempted to pick it up at this price though.
@Dog19026 I read through some of the reviews and they are outrageously bad. Suggestions of words that reviews contained included stuff like “piece of junk”, “poor quality”, and “waste of money”. very very hard pass.
I just talked with my dentist on Friday, she says this is the best product out there for the price, better than anything Waterpik sells… and she knew I bought it elsewhere. I am missing a part, and the replacements aren’t available from Phillips, so, hmmmm… Guess I’ll just have to see what happens.
As @RogerWilco mentioned, you can use water.
However, in the manual (yes, people do read those ) it says that they recommend that you use specific mouthwash types as water and some mw types seem to mess with the internals. This why breakdown happens quickly I think on these. I’ve had mine for 3 months after getting it on either morning save or side deals for about this same price during one of their clearance sales.
It’s one thing to market items of questionable desirability, questionable taste, questionable usefulness; things that have been superseded by a new model; things that were made for a specific client who went out of business. That’s all fine. We know what site we’re on.
But when you commit to selling an item that looks reputable and just flat damn doesn’t work … that’s not mediocre, y’all. It’s sleazy.
@bpothier just tried to request replacement online, system said exact model was not available. Opened chat (phone support was closed) and agent was able to verify support (requested sn from bottom of handle) and is shipping replacement. 5 minutes of chat maybe?
this is really fun when used with tequila instead of water.
@alacrity so if you bite a lime while you use it, it makes decent margaritas right in your mouth?
@djslack seems logical.
@djslack use cointreau as a mouthwash- it cuts the acid in the lime
@alacrity
Ok, serious comment here:

Yikes, those reviews.
@ravenblack Ouch. I hadn’t checked that out. Yeah, no.
@ravenblack Yikes, you’re right. I almost bought one.

I have an air floss and love, love, love it!!
@tinamarie1974, this model?
@tinamarie1974 how long have you had it? According to Amazon reviews they don’t seem to last very long.
@djslack @haydesigner. I have had it four or five years. I use Tom’s mouthwash inside it, but not this model. This one
Got tired of using this, making a mess every time. water everywhere.
I have one of the original one and still love it but this one sounds much better. I’ll take a chance.

I would be all over this if I did not just lose my job
@xterraguy Sorry about your job, for sure. Maybe get a business loan, buy this and start pressure washing people’s teeth?

Dear Philips:
When you make a product video that is mostly white, do not use white text. Ever hear of contrast?
@btgarner From Austin Powers in Goldmember:
So is the horrific quality why Phillips off loaded to meh?
That’s a good way to shoot your eye out…
Yer not supposed to use it on yer brown eye, @Bumplepimp.
At least you don’t have to buy them in pairs.
Oh my! They certainly don’t love this thing at the Amazon Customer reviews! A very hard pass

What’s involved in cleaning or other maintenance of this?
Is the Listerine needed?
@hchavers you can use water or moonshine too.
@hchavers

If you use mouth wash make sure you clean it out after use. can gum up the works if it dries. When it works it works very well
Am I the only one wondering why this is called an air floss if it uses liquid?
@katbyter compressed air to shoot the liquid.
@katbyter @RiotDemon #metoo
@RiotDemon so using normal string with your fingers should be called finger floss?
Manual flossing is better, but this is better than nothing, which is the most popular method of flossing.
I’ll give it a try, gadgets are always preferable to just some silly string and your fingers

@whogots I mean, they link you right to Amazon so you can read the reviews yourself and make an informed decision. Plus, two year warranty.
Got it.
It just died.
Turns on, press button, it turns off.

Liquid leaked to the bottom of the handle and now it doesn’t work. Only got to use it a few times for a period of 5 months. Meh.
