Not hot enough to properly char my sous vide caribou steaks. A long bath at 136° followed by 26 seconds at 841° on the cast iron produces the perfect blast of flavor one expects from such a high flying meal.
I have this. It is truly the best indoor smoke free cooker I have ever owned, and it is smoke free. To get a good sear you have to preheat for 10-15 minutes, but besides that it’s the best indoor grill alternative!
Hmmm… $140 on Amazon? If there is a problem, you get a real solution, like free returns? $110 on meh… where if there is a problem, you suck it up buttercup?
I purchased one of these the last time around and am fairly satisfied. I make sure it warms up for at least six minutes and so far have only cooked steaks on it and it is nearly smokeless. A bit pricey, and it does take up a fair amount of counter space, but at this price I would probably buy one again. At the rate the have and are selling it would probably be a good bet to wait a little more.
@blaineg Looking around the kitchen, there ain’t too many square inches that don’t have shit piled up on them. Holidays are a bad time to try to push something like this.
I got the Put-It-Away pile.
The To-Be Assembeled pile.
The Returns pile.
The What-The Fuck-Is-It pile.
The This-Has-Always-Been-Here pile.
The Gotta-Be-The-Kids’ pile.
The So-THAT’S-Where-That-Smell-Is-Coming-From pile.
@jeffdoh@st_ellis It looks a lot like a JennAir indoor countertop grill with downdraft and range burner elements. And I agree that would beat the Philips, but it’s not the same kind of product at all.
I grew up with a JennAir and loved it tonnes!
I could save $30 by buying this from Meh instead of Amazon, or I could save $110 by not buying it at all!
Oh sure, marginalize and exclude those of us who choose to cook at 447°F.
The last photo… was that vengeance for grandma??
/youtube grandma got run over by a reindeer
Hmmm… Groceries, rent, or yet another kitchen appliance I have no space for… It’s a toughie.
That’s just in poor taste.
@cinoclav actually, reindeer tastes delicious.

I was NOT expecting that last photo. Very meh.
@Willijs3 I agree. I get that they are trying to be funny on a deadline, but ick.
@lindwright Oh, no no. I think it’s hilarious. It’s a very meh thing to do. As in “of course they would do that.”
@lindwright @Willijs3 I’m still not over what they did to Bambi’s mom.
@lindwright @therealjrn @Willijs3 Bambis dad, first of all, and believe it, maan.
Misread the price as ten dollars and thought it was a waste of money at that price
@MrMikenIkes I’m with you there, pardner.
I have one on my grill and it does the job of Maillard-ing up my sous vide steaks.
Ya know what I am after meh? one of those brick pizza oven grill overlays… for cheap… ya know like $20 with a retail of $250?

$60, maybe $70 on meh, I would maybe click buy.

@winfield
@blaineg I’d buy it if it came with the head.
@winfield And a grand total of 40.

Should I wait for the after ChrstMeh sale?
I mean, my oven goes up to 500, and the gas broiler goes hotter than that. Not impressed. If it got into the 700+. I might be more convinced.
@Jamileigh17 oven over 500 degrees in enclosure is easy
Open broiler with no lid won’t get that hot
What’s the point in a grill with no smoke?
@Seeds You can always just bring your own smoke, man.
@Seeds @therealjrn Ass, gas or grass: nobody grills for free.
The best indoor grill alternative is this, but for under $200, the Phillips unit is probably OK
