Pearl Harbor Day IRK Reveal
25In honor of the Pearl Harbor Day Meh-ra-thon, I just got bombed with my first-ever IRK. Perhaps my participation in the Mehrican Gift Exchange will be more traditional than I thought.
Contents:
–Magnetic Tiles Toy: I had already bought this for my grandson; now he gets two. This raises the issue of his getting more gifts than his brother, so maybe not.
–Malin clutch purse/wallet. Does the fact that it has lugs for a strap and includes one make in not a clutch? Maybe a 2021 stocking stuffer for my grown daughter.
–Sophie & Freda lady’s watch. Maybe a 2022 stocking stuffer for my grown daughter.
–How Now to Be a Dick book. Is Meh trying to tell me something?
–Bamboo Comfort Deep Pocket Luxury Twin Sheet Set. Bamboo sheets do not sound comfortable, and I have no twin beds. But they look nice.
–The coveted IRK bag!
So Meh apparently thinks I am a little girl aged 3+ who sleeps in a twin bed and acts like a dick. They have me pegged. (I’ll keep mum about how I got a grown daughter.)

@Felton10 the label was removed and a plain white label stuck over to cover the sticky spot on the box from the looks of things. But I’ll choose to believe that our IRKs were siblings, separated at birth.

1-Bowers & Wilkins P3 Series headphones really nice, but the cable has fine wires. I thought that’s going to be a weak spot. Pugged them in and only heard the right side. Each ear cup is plugged in individually so I swapped them. If I heard the right side again, the headphones are bad, if I heard the left side, the cable is bad. It was the $14 cable and not the $200 headphones. Yeah, that’s right, they sell these things for $200 bucks and they don’t even have Bluetooth! Another SCORE!
@Kyser_Soze I bought a new cable from Bowers & Wilkins. I see on ebay that there are cables that turn these into bluetooth headsets for $25. Maybe some time in the future. Shit, how did meh know that I have a thing for headphones? I have 5 by my laptop right now and another half dozen in my office upstairs! I didn’t NEED these or NEED to spend the money on a cable to make them work, but I think they look cool! My wife just rolled her eyes when I showed them to her. I gave her some ear buds with gems from an IRK a few months back and she’s never used them! Point is, this was $5 well spent! THANKS MEH! AWESOME!

Am I getting trolled? This is the SECOND time I’ve received an IRK with nothing but a bunch of those Asobu 14oz Porcelain “Jewel” Mugs inside.
Look, I’m not going to get jealous of the people who got Xboxes or whatever because I can buy my own, but it would be nice to get some variety once in a while. A used drone without a battery, a DVD case for season 4 of an obscure show without the actual DVD inside, a baby mannequin arm, anything. Just not more of these infernal mugs, please?

My IRK arrived two days early and made me very happy.
Pictures of all but one of the items inside have already been posted: Verbena diffuser packaging sheet, 5 in 1 fryer filters, red throwback Fuko bag, and a very nice 10" Cuisinart skillet (something I can really use).

Easily the worst bag I’ve received to date, but apparently I shouldn’t complain since some people received only broken mugs…
The shipping suggested I wouldn’t see this until 2021, but it surprised my on my doorstep today. There were two pieces of clothing, labeled “XL”, but apparently the top was very inappropriate for a woman, or still not XL even for a kid because my 12 year old tried it (and the jacket, and the glasses) on to model them for Meh:
Additionally, there was a S/M robe. We got one in the last IRK (also claimed by the daughter,) so my eldest has claimed it to regift to a friend of her that she is pretty sure will fit into it.
There were two pairs of BluVue glasses, one 0.0, one 2.5, both of which were hits with my 8 year old. Also, all of my kids look great in glasses, though my younger two do not need them.
The requisite Meh bag matches my last one.
The Network Cord looks great, and though I have a bag of them and don’t need it, this is the nicest looking one I have.
Also, a 12-piece, 6 knife set I have drooled over on Meh over and over!
We have a bigger set, in a chopping block, so I can’t use it, and my eldest has an huge set from her culinary schooling, so we do not need them anywhere so we’ll regift them, but they are so pretty!

My IRK was just delivered and it is HEAVY. Turns out the weight is due to 23x4ea pkgs of Superman birthday in a bag gift bags. Complete with birthday cards and tissue paper. 92 of these babies. Also, the IRK bag in red. A compact magnifying mirror/charger, another charger, and some light up putty.

@eggsterminate Just checked, It’s outside Charlotte, NC. Last time it was there, it chilled there for a bit, then hung around Atlanta for a few more days, then made it to my town. So I’m probably still looking at ~6 days. Except there’s Christmas then, sooo… maybe by New Years? Sigh. FedEx & USPS is absolutely crap in eastern GA.

I received mine today: Navy irk bag, 2x blue asobu mug [broken], an envelope of five in one fryer filters, one each red and silver color motion control rockets.
I am thankful to the folks in the warehouse who must be busting their backs to get this stuff to us! Shipping time has hardly ever been a problem for me - if anything, they’re moving IRKs at record speed these days.
This is the second shipment I’ve received recently with broken goods and no Texas bags of air. Customer service refunded my first purchase ('cause they’re awesome), but I lament that a simple fix would have saved my purchase.
Does the umbrella of protection for mediocrity extend to packaging the goods as well? Because that step can take intact mediocre products and produce broken mediocre products that end up going straight to the trash. Do different/nonexistent packing standards apply to IRKs, so they get a free pass?

I picked up my IRK today. I got:

1 Garland Grommet Panel (note on the window picture on the label says: “To achieve this look use 2 grommet panels, each sold separately.”)
1 white robe size S/M
1 Libratone Zipp smart wireless speaker…came inside a box with a shipping label to: Returns Department/Side Deal Returns… and included the return address of the customer who shipped the return.
I will probably donate the robe and grommet panel to the Hospice Thrift Store. The bag (and box) will probably go to a neighbor who just lost his house to a fire just before Christmas and is staying with a neighbor temporarily. (Robe won’t fit him.)
I was doubtful but surprised that after a few attempts, I got the speaker connected to my phone and it sounds pretty good. I hoped to do a Bluetooth connection to the phone and then cast a Netflix movie to the TV, using the speaker for sound but that doesn’t seem to work. But at least I have a nice speaker for music. As long as that speaker keeps working, no regrets here.

I got a pretty large but remarkably empty box. A small pack of “Ron Popeil’s 5in1 Fryer Filters”, the unfolded (and seemingly never sealed, by the unused adhesive strip) box for a blood orange reed diffuser, a small drone, the fourth volume of a comic I’ve never heard of “Mind the Gap”, and… a fuko bag? I guess they must’ve had a couple still lying around? I’m still baffled at why I had such a big box when the biggest thing in it was an envelope full of fryer filters.
My expectation was very low… So I was happy what I received. This time at least asobu mugs are one piece.

@mehgrl it’s the kind that hovers over your hand, so it’s pretty simple. You may want to open it and make sure it works and have to rewrap it, better than gifting a dud. They have a reputation for not working.
@djslack @mehgrl I’ve had 2 and neither would hold a charge. The IRK before this I got 4 and haven’t gotten around to open and test them, I’m guessing they will be failures too.

@jplennox @zachhh I actually didn’t feel instant regret, though that is supposed to be the point. It’s worth the $5 for the anticipation even if the outcome is meh. My very first was part of the kickstart or site launch and it was really regrettable, but my best had a Shark robot which gets used weekly. As for those mugs, I think this was the 3rd or 4th one I’ve received and they have all successfully made it to me. I know what you mean about the power banks, I bought a few that don’t hold much of a charge.
@tinkertime Not sure how many good IRKs you have to get to cancel out all the bad ones, but the one I got this time will cover a multitude of bad ones for the foreseeable future-especially when it was the best one sent out this time by a mile.

You probably got the opposite feeling of what I had, like what the hell is this thing? Followed by realization of what it was and increased appreciation. I had a few minutes of the NO FREAKIN’ WAY joy of a twelve year old on Christmas morning, followed by the best laugh in months. They got me good, so I actually had a great experience. It would only be better if it was on video. And I choose to believe it was a targeted gag so I can feel extra special about being messed with

@djslack I know you were joking mostly and you hit the nail on the head-I said what in the hell is this thing when I unwrapped it. But then after I looked on the back-goggled it and sent a pic to my son who said it looked like the real thing and he would pay the postage if I sent it to him (which I did). My daughter wanted it also but to sell it, but I told her the person who wanted to use it get first dibbs. Since he had two previous versions of the x-box and close to 100 games-the choice who to give it to was obvious. He gets it tomorrow so stay turned.
The thing I couldn’t believe is that they would send something so current possibly worth so much. Guess if you only send one out you can afford to send out something like this.
