Oh interesting. Yeah these are sodium acetate pads. There is a flexible metal disc in the pouch that sets off a reaction warming up the pack when you flex the disc back and forth. As the pack cools down, the liquid inside crystallizes into a solid. You can re-use it by heating the pad in boiling water for a few minutes until the stuff inside liquifies again, then let it cool down to room temperature.
Boiling them to reset the heat crystals is a bit tedious, but having a Sous Vide cooker is the cheat code to make these much more convenient.
I don’t mind boiling these, my house is really dry and I’ve got an induction cooker that i can set a timer on.
That said, if you find boiling a big pot of water for 30ish minutes to be a PITA, these probably aren’t for you.
@Felixaurelius Hmm I have a 6 qt instant pot. Wonder if that would work.

Might order for my mom.

Think of these as one time use, and they’re awesome.
EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!
@mediocrebot you’re awesome!
DIPLOMAT! RAT-A-TAT! FAT CAT! AWESOME!
Ditto on “resetting” them but they work really well for when you need a heating pad and it’s not convenient to plug one in.
